I also grew up and still live in a place it doesn’t snow: Orange County, CA. Whenever I go to the local mountains in winter or when I went to Colorado last January I got excited when I saw snow. Also, it is so funny how Americans don’t use umbrellas in the snow like Japanese people do.

You should definitely come to Ginzan Onsen in winter. It is very difficult to get a reservation for lodging, but it is the best view. Relatively close to Yamagata Airport✨.

My friend was there not too long back and showed me photos of the massive snowfalls he encountered as it was meters deep everywhere on rooftops the ballustrades and they had to clear the walkway areas for people to move around.
