Yep. King Kamahameha I, rightful ruler of Hawaii, was the first foreign authority to recognize and sign a treaty of peace and commerce with Argentina in 1818. In the meantime Captain Bouchard conquered southern California for Argentina, raised the colors and then left pursuing more adventures. In fact the Argentine flag still waves in Santa Bárbara along with the flags of 11 other nations who once occupied that land. Hope you had a good time in Argentina, my friend. @@RetireandGo

Great video! I've been to Argentina four times, twice in 2023. I plan on retiring to Argentina at the end of this year. I'll forgo the Argentine steaks as I'm vegan. The high rate of inflation in Argentina actually helps expats. I visited Argentina in March 2023 and then again in September 2023. I noticed that prices were much higher in pesos in September than in March, but actually cheaper when I converted the prices into dollars or pounds.

I think you nailed it with your description of Buenos Aires. I just returned from my first visit there and was amazed at how clean, safe and affordable the city is. Obviously what we see as visitors are mostly agreeable parts of the city, the country has serious economic issues from many years of populist politics and corruption. The city is vibrant and despite its pace the people are welcoming and have time for conversation. (Uruguay is probably more ‘tranqillo’ but BA is not far off). There is a surprising positivity, especially among younger people who seem to live in the moment and are quietly confident with the new president Millei doing what is necessary for the country to prosper moving forward. Dealing with the local peso and exchanging it in the blue market is a constant reminder of the country’s economic problems and rampant inflation.

If one has some 'kahunas' BA property is inexpensive. If one looks at it from a more relative value perspective with other international cities it is cheap! One needs help, a few hoops to jump through but there is proper title registration and lttile risk of confiscation. After all, the country is like Australia and the U.S., is built on migration. A more passive way to play Argentina is that it has publicly listed companies listed on the NYSE that are safe and some pay chunky dividends (CRESY, IRS come to mind), especially if purchased on weakness. Also a few large oil companies and current government is pro privatisation, developing resouruces and attracting capital. Uruguay is a bit more expensive but very stable and offers interesting tax residency options.

I enjoyed your video. Having first visited BA in 1992, I love seeing videos of the city. However let me point out a few things: 1) Argentina has one of the worse inflation rates in the world. That is why everything seems is so cheap for someone with dollars. You cannot state that everything is so cheap, without considering this. The population who is not well off is suffering tremendously. The average wage is $100 a month! This is due to more than 20 years of terrible socialist governments which have destroyed the economy. Add to this that Argentina is one of the most corrupt countries in the world. They have now elected a totally different government and that will eventually change things 2) Things may look nice in the city of Buenos Aires (CABA) the autonomous city of BA, but go out to the province of BA (PABA), which is separate from the city and you will find insecurity, poverty and all of the worse conditions anywhere. Don’t be fooled by what you see in the city. 3) You mentioned that everyone is fit. Yes that is what happens if you can eat the best beef in the world. Just leave out the fries and the bread. However you will find many overweight people in the poor neighborhoods, because all they can eat is polenta and cheap pasta. 4) Definitely, BA is one of those cities where you can just enjoy looking at the architecture. The culture, food and wine is to be cherished. Just be aware that things are not as they seem in the nice areas. The problems of Argentina are deep and will take a long time to recover, but it seems like they will. Right now things are worse, because the change to get better will take some time. I do hope they do because for a long time, my favorite retirement location has been BA and Argentina. Do not limit yourself to the city. This is an incredible large country, the eighth largest in the world in land mass.
