You should take another run at it using Unreal Engine. It renders in real time just about and the control you have is amazing. Not super hard to learn either and it’s free. I think you could get pretty close to the original and tweak from there to your liking. In this particular scene in the original, it was pretty clear that the lighting on the ships didn’t match the star base environment. They kind of glowed blue.

When you see the end of the nacelles nearing the doors, I always thought it would be more suspenseful if you saw the saucer section nearing them instead. The time it takes for them to open is too slow and the angle shown, makes you think they would still hit the doors because the wide space of the nacelles. Just my opinion.

Too dark. The developers decreed that in the movies, the ships were to be the source of light as space was dark. Not only did you leave out the blinking running lights on both ships, but what light shown was too dark. The Enterprise's hull shines under a light source. As should Excelsior's. Your depiction of the Enterprise going to impulse power is too jerky in movement. The ship appears to move faster and then slows down. In the movie, Excelsior had cleared the rim of spacedock well before the Enterprise approaches us. Your placement of the Enterprise blocked out most of the Excelsior appearing in the shot. Your angle on the spacedock's space doors is way too steep. You need to up the angle a bit. Finally, I don't know why you decided to add extra damage to the Enterprise's saucer section. There should be two burn marks just behind the bridge and a bit to the left of the Impulse drive on the upper section. This is where Khan hit the Enterprise with a photon torpedo in ST:II. You added several more bits of damage and even extra on the starboard (right) side. Unless that's some kind of shadow...which shouldn't be there.

If Spock's father, Sarek, the Vulcan Ambassador, was on the old Enterprise with Admiral Kirk and his crew when they stole that ship to go rescue Spock from Genesis after finding out his living spirit is in Dr. McCoy, would Sarek try to reason with Captain Styles not to stop his son's friends from saving him and to think about Spock's human mother if Captain Styles tries to stop them? Would he grant Sarek's request, or deny it and risk an incident with the Vulcan people?

So, just saying, one quarter impulse power is 0.25 times the speed of light. They'd both already be smears on the walls of spacedock.

That's not quite true. Full impulse is supposed to be 0,25 times the speed of light. But on the main subject you are correct. Even on 0.25 Impul.... splash... Yeah. But what the heck? It's a damn sci-fi-movie. There is no spacedock, no Enterprise, no warpdrive and no tribbles... yet

@@cookiemonsterdayz no, according to the TNG technical manual, full impulse is the same as warp 1, i.e., the speed of light.

@Mr. Cool Only for warp. Impulse has always been the same scale

Kirk says one-quarter impulse POWER, but Sulu doesn't engage the CLUTCH till later. (What, you didn't know there's a clutch?) :P

Isn't 1/4 impulse the speed they used when they originally took Enterprise out of the drydock in ST-TMP? It was moving pretty slowly then so I don't think it's anywhere near light speed. Looked like it was moving around 20mph
