It took a few paddle sessions for me to get used to the wing paddle. It’s definitely a better option than my Werner Kalliste paddle. The first time you paddle your Stealth into a strong headwind in open ocean with whitecap conditions, you will be amazed with how stable and safe you feel!🎣😃

That winged paddle looks a little short and the other one looked too long. You’re absolutely correct that paddling with proper technique requires use of more than just the arms. Get your technique dialed in with the right paddle and you’re gonna be unstoppable. Also, as a bicyclist, motorcyclist, and kayaker, I appreciate and share your feelings of connection with the sport. This is some good stuff Moo. Really good stuff.
@MooMooOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Yes you are absolutely right about the paddle length. Wing paddle was 210 and hobie paddle was 230. I think I found the sweet spot which now I use is 215. I'm still working on my paddle form. Engaging more core and legs. I saw your question about the OK trident 15. I think it's a great kayak but as you said, it is a little heavy. I really like the features on the Fusion 480. Fish hatch and bait well while being around 70 lbs. They are both pretty much same price if you were to add the rudder on the Trident.

I like my wing paddle, but suffered with tennis elbow so had to switch to a flat paddle as it was twisting that caused the problem. I see yours are set up flat as they're 2-piece, I only have single piece paddles. I opted for a wooden Greenland paddle. I love it. It isn't quite as fast. I just got the 525 taken out 3 times so far. With the wing blade it feels funny at first but it's better to have more than a zero degree feather on it, and learn to use more hip rotation and less arm paddling, you'll go faster with more ease. Just tips from what I've learned so far.

It looks great, definitely tempted, especially by the in hull storage for surf launches and recoveries. My only concern is that the huge hatch might allow water to flood the whole of the hull if you capsize. Be interested to see you do a capsize and self rescue.

Great video! I would love to see you compare this to a Viking Profish Reload and Swell Scupper 14 someday. I may pick up a Swell in the future, I also caught wind they are releasing a 12' SOT fishing yak in March or April 2021. I'm pretty impressed what I see with the Fusion 480, I would love the speed of a longer yak like that but still be maneuverable on the lakes and rivers in my area. My Crescent Lite Tackle has done excellent so far for a more budget oriented fishing kayak option (that paddles pretty good) compared to any of the other mentioned yaks, but the allure of a yak like the Fusion 480, Profish Reload and Scupper 14 keep pulling at me.

To go faster you need technique not effort. Watch a good paddler they keep their arms reasonably straight and use core/back muscles. The Stealth kayak is built for the surf with the in hull storage. If you take on the surf you will flip sooner or later (Probably sooner)
