Thanks for the response Moo, in my mind it is better to launch and land without the sidekicks. Especially since watching and learning about breaching and bracing which I used successfully last Friday coming back in La Jolla. However there is wisdom in much consul and even a Hobie rep responded he highly recommended leaving them on. In time I will try both ways but for now I think I will sand them down to easily separate as they are EXTREMELY tight fit brand new. Thanks again..love your vids..hope we meet some time.

Hi Moo! When I’m going through the surf, I usually have the two straps that secure the Stealth fish hatch buckled down tight. A couple of times, I have flipped my kayak in the outer break and the kayak gets washed in without me. Both times the kayak was floating upside down for at least 10 minutes before I was able to swim in and flip it upright. The weather strip on the hatch lid in combination with the two hatch straps creates an amazingly good water tight seal! I’m wondering if having your transducer cable on your Stealth Fusion 480 pinched between the lid and the hatch opening would negatively affect the seal. You might want to install one of the Hobie Thru Hole Wire Plugs in the front of the footwell and then route your transducer cable through that instead of up and over the hatch opening. This would also allow you to hide the excess transducer cable inside the hull where it would be out of harms way. 🎣😃

Hi, How do you like the Fusion seat? Does it provide good back support? Thanks for your reviews. I am undecided between the OK trident 15 or the Fusion 480. Have you ever tested the Trident 15? My main problem with Fusion is that there are no dealers in the East Coast so I wont be able to test it before buying it. Thanks ed

When paddling it give you good lower back support and I have no complaints. However, when I'm soaking bait for sturgeon I do miss the higher back rest to lean on. You can attach a back rest or clip-on seat on Fusion 480.

Hi Moo, I've just started sea kayaking and thank you so much for all your info.. I will buy one of these in a year. I have a Moken12 at the mo to learn on etc.. Will I notice a big difference kayaking in the 480??ie is it like driving a normal car and then driving a sports car??

Moo Moo, my wife bought me Hobie sidekicks for my Revo 13 so I will be drilling holes too. But my question for you ,because I really appreciate your advice, is this... “ is it better to leave the pontoons in the hatch when launching thru surf? then install afterwards?”

I'm not sure if my advise is good on the sidekick because I never used it. However, I have a couple of buddies who uses side kick and what I observed was that it does get in the way a little while launching. I think landing with it is a much bigger issue because the wave can push the kayak towards the beach the arm can knock you down as you are getting off the kayak. My friend flipped his kayak while landing at chest deep water and had a hard time up-righting the kayak because of the sidekick as well. You are much less likely to flip but once you flip it's that much harder to up-right the kayak in my opinion. I personally would install them after launch and before landing but like I said I have no personal experience with them. I think you need to figure out what's best for you.

Can you please measure the external length and width of the top outside of the hatch, I need to see if I can fit a toolspro box there (260 (W) x 245 (D) x 175mm (H) CM) How hard to load the yak on top of the car? given its a heavy kayak? Cheers

The opening is 530mm by 222mm. It's not too heavy for plastic kayak and it's not very difficult.

I just plan to use the rear trolling rod holder for salmon. I don't like having a rod holder in the front when I'm paddling.

I found that the back rod holder was hard too see the strike and I missed a few fish I moved too a Scotty rod holder mounted on some extenders out where you mounted your fish finder

I personally like when a kayak doesn't come without accessories because I like to modify it just a way I like it without any unnecessary accessories. But I still get nervous when drilling holes on the kayak 😂🤣

And it is not a big job to repair a hole if you need to change things. I like using Well Nuts when I drill into mine to keep things water tight.

I'd say it's more about being uncertain about a setup. I have scotty holes in my touring kayak I regret drilling because it was only after several miles of paddling that I realized it wasn't what I wanted. Give me a new touring kayak now and I'll happily drill, now that I know exactly where I want it.

Good for the coast. Performance and stability is very much like Outback. Only thing you need to do is upgrade the front hatch gasket. Took it water in choppy condition like how Outback took in water when 2019 model first came out.

Moo Moo, stop what you are doing and DO NOT run your wire under the hatch like that. It will damage you your FF cord, the result will be no FF when you need it. You will need to place a hole in the hull or the top hatch, I recommend the hull. Trust me on this.

Thanks for looking out. I took the kayak out 3 times after this video was shot and I might have already damage the cable. I was having issue with FF turning on today. I need to make a follow up video to warn people not to do this.
