For the noise: replacing stock thermal paste (or any thermal paste really) with Honeywell PTM7950 thermopad is just ridiculously good upgrade. Once you do that it is quiet and has better thermal efficiency. It should be stock solution to be honest, I couldn't believe how massive change in fan nosie can one simple solution make.

This has been a great informative honest review. I have the OLED here in Ireland. I only play games on it. No emulation etc. This video makes me feel like I'm wasting opportunities, considering what it's really capable of 😅. Cheeeeers for a great review. 👍

As someone who purchased a Steam Deck LCD a month before even being aware the OLED Deck was a thing and before it launched (sadge), It was definitely an amazing purchase to have basically a console/computer in the palm of my hands and pretty much replace my home system for gaming! Can't wait to see what new versions of the device we'll see in the future!

That pretty much happened to me. I purchased my Steam Deck LCD (512gb) during the summer sale last year. June 29, 2023. Well, what do you know, if I had waited until November, I'd have an OLED instead. LOL. I remember feeling like a total donkey afterwards. Ah, well, I'm currently on the market for an Alienware gaming laptop now. The Steam Deck got me into PC gaming.

when it comes to the touchpads I actually set them up to move 45 degrees when moving your thumb between the left edge to the right edge. I also activate trackball and set the friction "high" that way I can get the amount of camera movement into my muscle memory... and if I "flick" left to right the trackball feature will take over and I can consistently do a instant 180 degree turn. I much prefer the trackpads than right analogue sticks due to this. They are just SO much quicker and precise than the slow linear motion of an analogue stick... I mean ultimately the analgoue stick was ALWAYS a compromize when it came to FPS games, but it somehow became the default way to play them on consoles.

You need to keep the Ally in perspective. Yes it has better performance at higher wattages. But if you think the Steam Deck uses battery, you are in for a surprise. The Ally for me is more like a miniPC alternative. On sale for 500 euros it is the cheapest 7840u miniPC you can buy. But if you set it at 20w the battery will drain in 20 mins.

Yes it will be slower but it's a ssd it's not noticable and that with that part of the deck getting the hottest according to valve and they mentioned people doing 2280 to 2230 mods should stop because they're going to overheat and damage there device potentially.

@@notepadplusplus4923and lastly I would recommend just getting the OLED model if you're in a market that it's priced reasonably it's hard to beat the 40% extra battery and the HDR OLED 90hz display is great and the 90hz display has lower input latency the LCD deck. 549$ for 512gb OLED sure you can get a refurb or new LCD deck and upgrade the storage realistically it'll be 380 to 450$ it might just be worth it to get the OLED instead.

I would only add. if anyone gets a steam deck (any version), please get even a cheap plastic protection, a usb hub with ethernet port and hdmi ports and thumb grips for the sticks. the deck's hand grip is not amazing so a plastic protector can help a lot on that and the usb hub is a life saver most of the time. I even have a spare cheap one for the switch (less than $5 usd on aliexpress) for when I go out not including the 10+ ports one that I use on my house.

Personally I have always seen anti-cheat game as a non-issue on the Steam Deck since they are competitive by nature. Playing on a handheld with controller-style input puts you at a serious disadvantage, so why even bother with those kind of games on the device? I have been using SteamOS since day one and out of all 300 or so games I have tested only 2 of them haven't worked (and to be fair, they can have been fixed at this point). So my question is really. What's the appeal with Windows on such a device? Do people actually play competitive games on a handheld?
@KorieConnor-dj3ij
@KorieConnor-dj3ij 4 ай бұрын
I say the same thing in a lot of steam deck groups I’m in Surprisingly a lot of people brought steam decks to play games like call of duty and while some work like older titles all the newer ones don’t and people cry so much about it People also want to play rainbow six siege on the deck and while it runs fine on windows I don’t see a point using a steam deck even with a monitor and keyboard/mouse most people have way higher fps and will beat you most of the time
@SantiagoSantiago
@SantiagoSantiago 4 ай бұрын
It's a great point actually. In my opinion just because they are competitive games doesn't mean everyone will play seriously, this is about options. I played siege on a friend's house on Deck on a squad with him, felt like couch coop 😂 If you only own a Steam Deck, there's no way to play those anti cheat ones on SteamOS, at the same time newer CoD games cannot even launch the singleplayer without Windows. CoD in particular will detect you have a controller and pair you with controller users.

Probably not much point You can replace most things in the deck like buttons and sticks very easily and its going to be a case by case basis if people have issues or not If you keep the deck in a case and look after it you shouldn’t have many issues while others just throw it around and wonder why theirs is falling apart
