Thank you for this video! I’m new to Steam Deck and couldn’t figure out why all my games were stuck at 720p. Being a Switch owner since launch, I just assumed the Steam Deck would function similarly. Your steps and simple explanation were exactly what I have been looking for. Keep these videos coming, and THANK YOU 🙏🏻

Thanks for the guide! One thing i can't still understand, while docked and set the resolution to 900p, do i need the FSR enabled?

I don't quite understand this... Nintendo managed to basically do a plug and play with the Switch and the Dock. Why is the docked experience for a much more powerful handheld so complicated?

Because Steam Deck is not a console, it's a PC. It is not built from scratch for specific needs as a console. It is built upon the Linux kernel. And that comes with limitations.

@@ales_moc Nah that's not why, Linux has nothing to do with this. Valve wasn't even sure if the dock would be a success, so they didn't want to bother making a proper dock and expect people to buy it separately. They wanted to keep costs down as it was. The Switch dock actually increases processing power, you can't just slap something together and put it to market. If there's a Steam Deck 2 coming there's probably a better chance they'll do a proper dock. And it's definitely a console disguised as a PC.

@@jsullivan2112 You clearly don't know what you are talking about. It is a PC disguised as a console, not the other way around. The dock is literally the same dock that you would plug into a laptop. And as with any other PC it just increases connectivity. There is no PC dock increasing performance, only storage at best with a M2 port. Switch and its dock are simply fundamentally different devices inside, only similar in the form factor.

Forget any plugins, what's the best settings for the Oled to not lag on some games while docked in the official Valve dock?

@@Games-tx1zc I usually do the benchmark then lower them a little, but days gone is at 1280x720 and just doesn't seem to run very smooth at a lot of points, same with Forza horizon 5, maybe there's other settings though, I know nothing about computers and the steam deck is the closest thing I've ever had to PC gaming

@@josephhall7317 are you outputting to 4k? I had this issue and solved most of my problems by going down to 1080p

@@Games-tx1zc unless it does it on it's own I don't think so, I'm also using a TV that only goes to 1080p, I have most games on a 1tb Lexar micro SD card and some people said that was the problem but the only difference I notice between that and internal storage is games load up a little faster from internal storage, like GTA 5 that's also on my micro SD card but doesn't have this issue at all

whats the best settings for emulation station? I chose the display settings the main general one, not per game, to 1080p 60hz is that good or too demanding?

Audio only comes from steam deck speakers not HDMI external when docked. It's so frustrating to experience when you thought Valve could get sound right. If mine is docked I connect HDMI and change sound to external device and it changes back to default on its on. I talked to valve about the issue only for the back and forth to end up as there is no fix for your issue. How does a billion dollar company not know how to make sound come through an HDMI cable?

Do you have any experience with Returnal and Elite Dangerous? I play docked almost exclusively and I have always wanted to play Returnal. However finding a clear cut answer is hard. The Dexk reviews are all over the place. With Elite Dangerous I play alot but it struggles alot. Any thoughts? Thx.

@@servantbyday No it does not. The only thing different about the OLED model is the screen. Everything else is identical.

@@jsullivan2112 You’re right. Only the BOE (Non Samsung OLED) panels themselves can push past the 90hz and read 120hz in handheld mode.

instead spending money use steam deck tools, it has fan con control if have windows installed, I'm over it I hate Linux. I couldn't get games to run. Not even going to do dual boot when available.

The official dock is an absolute joke. Mine was a Christmas gift but it's going back as soon as I find the box!

@@jsullivan2112 it just doesn't work properly. You have to boot up your Deck before you dock it, for example. You can't have it connected and then use the deck, it has to be disconnected first. The output is also unbelievably bad. Much, much worse than playing directly on the deck. Lords of the Fallen plays fairly poorly on deck, but it's 15 fps pixel art using the dock. There's also a significant lag when inputting commands. Finally, it doesn't work on desktop mode, it just reverts back to the deck and shows only the steam logo on the screen. Valve are being extremely bad with the returns process as well. Sending it back isn't the issue, but they're charging all sorts, despite the fact that it's a brand new piece of kit. It's in the post going back now, but it's costing us (was a gift from my wife) a fortune to return. Not happy AT ALL...

@@herrzyklon Sorry I’m just not seeing how it’s the actual dock that’s the problem? Sounds like docked MODE operates a certain way that could be better, I can see that. With Lords of the fallen, if it runs poorly to begin with, of course it’s going to run worse in docked mode on a display. Even games that run great on the deck, run worse on a display. Sounds like LotF is just a very demanding game. As for input latency, is that with a controller plugged into the dock, or while paired with BT? Have you had the same issues if you pair the controller while it’s not docked? Your concerns are all valid of course, but they don’t really indicate if it’s the dock or not, or even just your particular dock. Surely it’s all under warranty? You’re not going to try and get it replaced first? I need to find out how many are having the same issues.

For me, it's the fact that it had to be booted outside the dock, then inserted, then there's no sound, then desktop doesn't work, then I get pixel art running at 15 fps. I've tried everything, and spent all day on reddit and steam trying to work it out, to no avail. Tldr; it's shit!

@@kokopoppan I don't know, probably not to be honest. I don't feel like I need a dock, but got this official one as a gift. If it had worked I'd have kept it, but I might just get something else instead. If I'm returning a gift, may as well get something useful to me

@@herrzyklon I had the same problem bro. There is a Reddit post that shows how to re-install the dock firmware from desktop mode. I did this and also got a better 1080 lg ultra gear monitor for around £120. Now my dock works flawlessly, but it was a pain in the ass finding the solution. Good luck
