Use that thing! Charge batteries or power up something, make tea or a cup-o-noodle thing. I'm sure this mean machine can turn a much bigger dynamo. Best steam engine video out of dozens I've seen!!!

I love these PMR kits the boiler is a work of art,I assumed it was just a pot boiler till I studied the plans and saw it has proper flues and tubes! Also the mill engine is a lovely unit,from the parts they supply there are a number of ways of building it,either assemble as is or spent more time fettleing it and giving every part the treatment leads to a very fine looking engine,up there with the Stuart offerings.These kits are VERY expensive in the UK unfortunately,the boiler here costs $500+!!

Very good! I was impressed with the speed of your engine because it is a steam engine! I think that has much strength, to run a more powerful generator. Congratulations, great job!

I'm doing the exact same thing you describe. I finished my PMR 7 engine (run on air to get valves timed) and now am building the BLR2 horizontal boiler from PMR. I've got a bunch of extra fittings, valves, pipe - since I'm uncertain how exactly I'll be laying it all out. The riveting looks to be a complicated process (riveting is starting next week) doing hole drilling and deburring this week over the Holiday.
@boa72112 жыл бұрын
just what you see coming out of the stack,. there is no driping down into the stack, lot less sense the tank added. It used to splatter a lot of liquid out and make a mess, so all in all it was a very good plan on how it all worked out.

Yes, the PM stuff is great. I was tempted to buy their small oscilating engine but I think I'm going for a stationary engine to restore! Thanks, Phill.

Thanks for the reply,I see the dynamo is a PMR items aswell.I wish we had a PMR stockist/importer here in the UK,they do a fantastic array of kits and they dont ask stupid prices for them,unlike Stuart or Reeves,Stuart want $1500 for a set of unmachined castings for a smaller engine than yours,plus Stuarts are all cast iron where as PMR use gunmetal cylinders on some of their engines,their boilers are even more ridiculously priced,one like the PMR boiler (but not as good) its 3 times as much

Most applications have a shut off valve right at the boiler and a check right next to it, so the check or pump may be serviced while under steam if necessarily.

are you refering to the one running vertical to the right of the shut off valve? that is the displacement oiler. as water/ steam enters the chamber, the oil is forced upward slowly, but enough to add oil into the path of the steam that is entering the cylinder. the valve on the bottom of the displacement oiler is to alow the water to drain out before refilling it with new oil.

@boa721 No, there is an obscure pipe that leads off from the boiler water feed line.

this is a PM research steam engine, they do not machine these at all, just a casting set with all nuts/ botls/ screws and misc. hardware. what you see in that video took me a combind 4 to 5 months and many hours to machine and build. i know of no one who will machine for any one person due to the time and effort involved with these. is enough money was involved you might find a machinest to make you one, i might even. stuart sell completed engine i think.

I'm just about finished building this model boiler....what a project! I had the machine work done for me as I don't have the skills and equipment to do it my self. I did however do all other work. I found soldering the flue tubes to be the most tricky work as they are in odd angels to apply solder/heat. I'd repair a leak, and in-turn create another from the broad flame/torch I used. What did you find most challenging about your boiler project?

No, no problem at all. You just have to go easy till it heats up or you get alot of Co. (carbon monoxide) not a problem if your burning out side and don't do it to often as it will eventually deteriorate the copper in the boiler.
@boa72114 жыл бұрын
these are around 1100 to 1200 just in parts before machining.

Did you have any problems getting your burner to run on propane. It would be cheaper to burn than the butane/propane mix that they recommend for ceramic burners.
@Bgee13412 жыл бұрын
Did you use a check valve in line between your feed pump and boiler?
@balak12114 жыл бұрын
@boa721 Ask Steamchest or john coleman...he says its an extra 55 bucks for maching up to where all you have to do is solder and drill the rivet holes.
@TKILLIP14 жыл бұрын
Looks like you are running on propane, what type of burner are you using?
@HistoricSteamTV8 жыл бұрын
Nice are you getting an amp out of it? I am making one with a Lucas rotor as a flywheel and stator on outside dumping load above 16psi only through a honeywell pressuretrrol. A few steam powered homes up here on the coast not enough sun for solar.
