Thanks for sharing all of your recipes! I found you when I was in California but now I’m in Texas for a new job. My mom grew up in Hawaii so we’d visit family lots. I’ve always had that connection with the culture and love learning tips on how locals make their food so good. Hope your trip is a blast!

So, I been trying to make manapua for a while here in Eastern NC. Every time I make them, mine comes out flat no matter which recipe I try, even yours from previous video. I'm confused on "how to" steam the buns, both in bamboo AND aluminum steamer I got. Do I "steam" them from cold water until boiling or boil the water first before I place them to steam? I"think" I'm taking them out too early after steaming, like immediately and expose them to cold air in the kitchen, that's causing mines to go flat? It CAN'T be the ingredients or my kneading. I tried hand kneading AND with mixer and results are ALWAYS the same😂 I WANT MY MANAPUA TO BE FLUFFY, WHITE AND ONO LIKE ONES I USED TO BUY FROM THE LUCH TRUCK DOWN THE BEACH!!! HELP😂😂😂😢😢😢 Mahalo for any advice. Keep up the good work, I made bunch of your versions of local recipes and my Haole wife like em all EXCEPT my flat manapua😢

Sorry, I too struggle with the steamed ones. But my baked char siu bao is guaranteed like the stores. Of course I make my own char siu.

About 12 large ones but you can make it any size.
