Okay, I have to ask, why are some of you guys whining that Oliver isn't used? Steam uses Oliver plenty, I like that he's using an UTAU and other Vocaloids. I don't think that Oliver's soft and childlike voice would suit this song either, it needs these powerful vocals to get the message across, and Steam knew that. This song gave me a lot of vibes, but the main concept I was picking up on was how the woman feels like her and her lover are now only shadows of themselves and the love they used to have. Looking back at how good things once were, and how damaged and perverse things are now, the woman lives in sorrow, mourning the loss of their love and true selves. She resolves to love him from afar - eliminating the present monster he is from her life and cherishing the memories of the past. Pain and suffering can make us into machines, emotionless and cruel, until the day we suddenly see through the lies we tell ourselves.

I was a kid when I first found this video and I didn’t understand the lyrics. I’m 15 now and still don’t fully understand the lyrics. I think I’m just over thinking some of the details in the video and completely ignoring the message in the lyrics. And seeing the girl I was like “who is she? what happened to her. Did she turn into the robot?” And it all kinda confused me.

I love the use of sonata. Her voice fits this song much better than Oliver would. Reason being is that Steam uses Oliver(who had a very sweet and childish voice) to put an element of childish innocence in the songs which I personally think makes it all the more terrifying, a thin layer of innocence that glosses over the true and horrifying meaning. Having that type of a voice in this song would not work, as it needs a slightly more mature sound to it, rather than a childish and sweet sound. That's why Oliver wasn't used. And why do you want to complain? Oliver is used in plenty of Steam's songs, I think it's nice to have something fresh and new. Great job Steam!

Omg y’all are reading too much into it. What I got from it was that it was through the mind and thoughts of a woman, who recently had broken up with her boyfriend. Although he broke up with her due to her toxic behavior, she still couldn’t seem to let him go and still wants to peruse him. The robot represents her urges and thoughts of wanting to take him back whether he’s willing to or not, and the girl represents who she truly is. She remembers to calm herself, and acknowledges her abusive nature. In the end, though, she finally convinced herself to let go, and move on. She realizes her attitude isn’t okay, and how she needs to change her ways and leave him alone. It’s a song about fighting against bad thoughts,, a song a bout changing your ways. A song about becoming the person you really are, a good person. And to me, who has gone through the exact same thing would know and relate to.. this song means a lot. They always say realizing your abusive behavior is the biggest step into changing your ways, and THAT, my friends, is what this song is about.

I think this song is about the singer going through an abusive relationship. The singer- who I'll refer to as Sonata- is going through phases of her relationship where she yearns to get out of the relationship- where she yearns to kill her abuser. This is her cold, calculated side- the side that buried her emotions and wishes, above anything else, to kill him. To get out. To *leave*. Then there is her human side. The side that stays in the relationship, the side that wants to believe that things will get better. The lines, "Wipe your face/ Fix your hair/ Do not let him see that/ You're a fucking disgrace" is internalising her feelings about the situation she seems to find herself in. Maybe if I act as though everything is okay, if I try to appease to what he wants, then things will get better. Things will surely get better. But that doesn't happen. It becomes too much for Sonata to handle. The part of her that wants to kill him grows until, one day, she does it. She gets rid of him once and for all, and for her, that's the best feeling in the world. She is finally standing up for herself and making him feel the pain she felt in their relationship. Sonata could have also took the less violent route and just walked out of the relationship once and for all. This could be supported by the line, "So please stop and/ Love him from far/ Let your soul finally rest." She is finally getting out of this toxic relationship. She is finally free.

So the vibe I got from this was a literal forgotten Vocaoid- You know, how the hype that tends to build up for a new Vocaloid when it comes out, everyone loves it, a lot of people buy it, make songs with it. Some are lucky to stay in fame, but a lot of them only last a *literal few minutes* before everyone just forgets they even existed, thus, the unwanted Vocaloid is left untouched, no more songs come out with it, it is left there to rust as people return their attention to Hatsune Miku again- -I love Miku btw so don't start that stupid war here- I'm probably 100% wrong here but this is what I got- I feel like she was trying to somehow become relevant again, by force because she was that desperate, but by the end, she ends up just accepting that there is absolutely nothing she can do about this, and that she is just a forgotten voice bank, which, in theory, is death to a Vocaloid. The love may refer to the often portrayed affection Vocaloids have toward their "masters"(the people who make songs for them).

I have a theory about the girl of the video: I think that this is about a girl with low self-estime or a survivor of abuse, :"broken robot","Gears no longer turn" meaning she was already "utilised" all the things about the"robot aesthetic" and her remembering about her being "flesh", meaning that she tought she was a "robot" (I think the "robot" is another word for when she don't feel emotion or empathy, etc...where she don't feel human at all) And I think all the stuff with the knife, is a metaphor for when she cut herself. We see her struggle with two sides of herself: when she is a "robot" and when she is "human" She is in love with a guy: " kindred spirit" "A soul that still burns", and all the lines at the end about the guy. But she is on the "mean girl" side of the story. "Seductive allure" "A smile that sharply brings an end to all things good and pure" we see her taking the side of the bad guy and maybe enjoying it? Because she think that she is bad, impure, and all... and that is what she is supposed to do and that she can't be something else anyway. I think the "impure" and "robot aesthetic" is her mental illness and when she is consumed by rage and self-hate. I think this is also the moments when she is trying to "steal" the guy. She know she is not herself, that's why she snap out of it each time. At the end, "Wipe your face Fix your hair Do not let him see You're a fucking disgrace" I think the guy saw her when she was hurting herself, so the "fucking disgrace" line was what she told herself immediatly after. Finally she decide to tell him how she feel, truly feel, nd even if I think she got rejected, she finally learn to accept her "robot" side, her mental illness, and she finally calm down, her "human side" dissapear, (because she know the robot side is not so inhumane after all) or they merge together at the end, so she can restart a new life, with her two side together. I really don't think that she killed herself at the end, just that she finally found peace. I'm sorry I'm not native from an english country. And remember it's just a theory! And I was in a hurry sorry

(we dont see her we just know she's involved and other peoples because in the lyrics, we see "her" and "they" the story is just told by the robot girl, and is about her, and her struggle, so of course we don't often mention them, they are not specialy important to her internal conflict.) We mention several times the guy, because she learn trough her love for him to let go, and to let go of her memory of her past self, and just, to "take a rest" and "love him from far" to let her soul stop fighting always and getting hurt. The "rest" might be her taking time to reconstruct herself. From the metaphor with her cutting herself, further proofs: "A knife so dull that It heals all pain brings" Some peoples use that to feel a sense of self control, or to minimise the pain they feel mentally. "A body littered on the floor" Meaning when she feel miserable, sometimes it feel good to be on the floor of your bedroom when you feel bad. "Leaking red things Gross and vile" I think this is when she is on the floor, with her wounds open, she feel disgusting about herself "gross and vile" "Regurgitate all the inky bile" When you feel very bad you may "want to throw up" or this is a metaphor for when she makes herself throw up, and that mean she also have anorexia or another lesser known illness related to eating. I surely sould have said that before, but: 1:Mental illness is something you SHOULDN'T be ashamed of and even if you are actually, remember: it takes time to accept yourself. Why don't you take a rest to think about it? you can always go to therapy, it is not that bad, and it can be really helpfull, if you don't like the therapist, you can aways change for one that makes you feel better! For those who can't afford therapy , you can ask support from your friend or from a member of your family, or you can always search on the internet but ALWAYS be skeptic about the information you find. 2:Everyone makes mistakes. The girl was struggling with very serious issue, and sure, she hurted some peoples, we shouldn't hate her just for that. She hated and was very harsh on herself all the time, it wasn't right to do that to herself and I personnally was not okay with what she told herself I think personnally thaat she desrve love and recovery. And years of therapy, too. Survivor of abuse often struggle with self-love that's why I think she made the right choice at the end, she let go of the guy to take a rest and take time, maybe go to therapy? for herself. 3:I am ABSOLUTELY NOT someone with a degree of psychology or something, so take everything I said with a grain of salt. However, I pretty much go to therapy and I know some stuff about metal illness in general. I have social anxiety myself, and I know what hating yourself is, I'm French, and I don't really talk english much... please don't kill me- But yeah, take everything i said with a grain of salt Xd And remember... For me, this song is about having an ego enough to show them that you are tough, but deep inside, you're just a piece of flesh hiding in the shells of the pride. But then she changed at the last part ("so love him now, like she did, like he did, like they did...) she then decided to unmask herself and show the real her.
