How much would you say the materials would come up to if you had to purchase everything? I'm trying to not put to much money into my first attempt at steampunk apparel. I've made a hand full of costumes but nothing to complicated.

I know this video is a little old, but is it possible for you to post a basic guide/ items list so that a new cos-player could build this? Thanks for an awesome video btw =)

+Phaeron Nasher - Actually, pretty much what you see is what you get. We made it completely off the top of our heads. A lot of things (like the curved sides) were off-the-cuff fixes to problems that arose. Otherwise, it's exactly as I describe: a board with sticks screwed and glued on, the wing spars cut out of plywood and glued together for thickness and strength, thrift store belts cut and riveted as straps (they don't even match), the round plastic things screwed on and paracord tied on with key rings as thumb loos on the end. The wings themselves are just cotton (really light canvas-like) cut in the right shape, with little strips sewed on to hold thin dowels to give them some weight and stiffness. Upholstery nails hold the wings to the spars. The back piece is just another scrap piece of plywood with scrap vinyl covering it and stove bolts and wingnuts holding it on. I show most of it in pretty close detail in the video so you can see all the parts. IF you have any questions or parts you don't understand let me know. Thanks for watching.

Hey! I got a question: How were you able to create the pattern and measurements for the wings? I have been having problem with figuring that kind of thing out.

+Bryce Barnhill - We literally just made it up as we went along. The original plan was to have wood spars on the top *and* the bottom of the wings, but that was impossible due to the folding mechanism. My daughter had a plan drawn for that, and when we had to scrap the bottom spar, we just figured out how to make the bottom of the wing look like it was meant to be that way. Then the little scallop points wouldn't sit right so we added the dowels to give them weight until it looked okay.. The whole thing was based on a scrap plywood board that I had that ended up being the bottom plate of the backpack. I made a prototype of the wing bar swinging up on that board, and just decided to keep it. We measured the length of the wings by what looked good when we put that on her back in about the right place. My daughter's original sketches had that "Swoop" curve in the top of the wing so I tried to copy that for the actual thing. Sorry I can't be more specific, but this project really was making it up as we went along, and solving problems as they occurred.

Kirby Gehman That's completely fine. This gives me a pretty good idea, thanks! :)
