This entire situation is so self-inflicted, it hurts. Matt Canada still having a job is Mike Tomlin's fault entirely, and I'm a big Tomlin fan. If this puts him on the hot seat then so be it, I can't believe Canada is worth tarnishing this year's team and Tomlin's own reputation. Mind boggling and not sure if I can stomach to follow the rest of this season.

Incorrect. ART ROONEY is the owner and has final say. ART ROONEY said Matt Canada is the main reason we went 7-2 down the stretch. ART ROONEY expanded Canada's responsibilities. Fire Tomlin if you want but ROONEY is gonna continue to put people like Canada in positions they don't belong.

I agree, Tomlin has lazily promoted his OC instead of hiring a good one from outside 2 tomes in a row now, our coaching staff has struggled for years now and a lot of it has been under his watch. He comes to the defense of every Steeler, but this is just ridiculous at this point

Big Ben is 3rd all time in 4th quarter comebacks. Part of the reason why is because ben was allowed to call plays in the 4th quarter when we were getting our asses beat and surprise surprise our offense was actually efficient. the biggest criticism with Tomlin is he cannot pick OCs. If we had Ben calling plays, we would be a much more effective scoring offense since historically Ben has refused to take no for an answer

At this point, it feels like the Steelers are holding onto pride rather than adjusting and being an agile organization. They are getting exposed bad. All the sudden that same tradition of fire slowly and see things through to their end is now a disadvantage. And as the Steelers continue to double down holding onto this sense of ego, it continues to cause harm and frustration in players and their fan base.

I think we still have that in terms of defense and front office but Canada is fking up the secret sauce. As much as I hate to admit it as a Ravens fan this is very similar to Baltimore's problem, coach Harbs had early success and won a chip had great teams playing great. Then everybody started getting old and then for a couple of years fans were begging for OC Wink to get fired and we thought they weren't going to listen and then people were calling for HC Harbs head on a platter and they finally got rid of Wink now the team got a little bit younger and is trending upward. I think coach tomlin will need to make a change this year or be placed on the hot seat himself. I think he will see the light and do the right thing before he gets himself canned.

Tomlin's main problem has never been the lack of wins. It has been the lack of meaningful wins. We've had the potential to win more Super Bowls than we already have, but have come up just short of doing so by looking disorganized in the playoffs. That has always been frustrating to watch, and now that our offense looks like it has no clue what it's doing, people are getting (rightfully so I might add) fed up. I don't want Tomlin gone. It all started with an unwillingness to look for a qb during the decline of Big Ben’s play. Then it went on to Steelers trying to stick to “tradition” as a run first team by drafting an rb in the first round when the o line was a mess and is the actual difference maker in a good running game. This would also be the year they would promote Canada to OC. Then it was drafting the wrong type of qb to carry the team at the state it was in (I would’ve went with Howell considering his solid play despite unc’s lack of talent in his last year). The 2023 draft is the first time I’ve felt optimistic about the rookie class since 2017. Yet, in spite of this, tomlin refuses to put any of them on the field. Throughout those years the Steelers have hardly made any significant moves in free agency and have only made 1 major trade for minkah. I hate to say it but we’re cleaning up the mess of tomlin and potentially Kevin Colbert may be at fault too. A combination of complacency and so called “loyalty” are why we are now officially on the same tier as the New York giants.
@Orxbane
@Orxbane Жыл бұрын
Yeah, these issues are systemic and chronic, it's only become obvious to even casual fans this year. And yes, Colbert is also to blame. This year's draft and free agency under Khan were the first time in years the majority of the issues on this team were addressed. How those particular players all work out is yet to be seen, but at least moves were made to address both lines, linebacker, cornerback, etc and not wasted picks and no free agent signings.
@steelerfaninperu
@steelerfaninperu Жыл бұрын
I agree a lot with the timeline here. but I also think you overlook a few factors. I think Munchak's departure was huge. The OL just hasn't been the same since, and was on the decline hard in 2020. Getting Ben's replacement in previous years was tough too because we were in playoff contention and gave up that first for Minkah, who I love. And he would have sat on the bench anyway because Ben was going out on his terms and that's how it should be. The man gave us so much. So that all made it really hard to transition cleanly. We're feeling the hangover still. I think Canada must go and the logic here was to give him a couple of years with his own QB to really try and set something up. Ben made Canada look decent for a year. He'll be gone at the end of this serason unless we miraculously transform ourselves into a playoff winner.
@michaelpelchat5579
@michaelpelchat5579 Жыл бұрын
@@steelerfaninperu thanks for the reminder of Munchak’s departure, I completely forgot about it. If there was a time period to replace Ben it would’ve been any draft from 2019-2021 but each of those years had their issues. 2019 the qbs after kyler weren’t great and if we did move up for one I think it would’ve been Dwayne Haskins (RIP). On top of that, ben was injured so it wasn’t fair to assess where his play level was at that point. In 2020, we traded for minkah so no point in talking hypotheticals there. I think the best time to move on would’ve been the 2021 draft. There were a couple of issues, o line was still not good and our pick was way too late. However, I know I may sound like a mad man, with fields falling down the draft I would’ve went aggressive for him and traded up to get him. I would’ve been comfortable giving up a similar trade package that the bears gave (similar draft range) but would’ve upped the later day picks to third rounders. This isn’t just hindsight talking but those in the draft community knew, even at that time, that the 2022 qb class was not on par with this one and on top of that this was the best projected qb class in a while. Fields was also regarded as either the 2nd or 3rd best qb available. Now if fields would’ve succeeded, who knows. I might’ve lost my job as gm 😂. I do know this though, Justin fields would be far better off learning from Big Ben in his last season and might’ve developed more on a less dysfunctional team. For those wondering what players we would’ve lost in the process of that trade it’d be Najee, Kendrick green, Kenny pickett and demarvin leal. Not big losses in my opinion (I hated the Najee pick when it happened). We could’ve also selected a later round rb instead of Najee such as Kenneth gainwell, Elijah Mitchell or Khalil Herbert who would, at this point, play as well as Najee.

Can't get mad about Matt Canada making bonehead playcalls if you're not watching it. I watched nearly every game for the past 10 years, even got up at 2:30 in the morning (Europe) to watch Mason Rudolph get assaulted by Myles Garrett because even that season had me more excited about football than whatever they're doing now. Sitting in front of my TV, coffee in hand at 4:30 in the morning last monday to watch them struggle against the Raiders, I decided I'm not putting up with it anymore, only watching games that are on at a reasonable local time. 6 days later, 7pm, beer in hand and I actually made it pretty far through the game, but that 4th & 1 call made me turn that crap off. Decided to not even watch the 1pm/7pm games anymore. Not until Matt Canada is fired into the sun. I'm exhausted. The last 3 years of this team really drained me and I know how insulting that sounds to fans of teams that have been going through a much longer stretch of sucking (I'd say Detroit but you guys finally pulled out of it, you rock) even to a point where I don't want to watch football at all anymore because seeing how some teams march down the field while we struggle and fail to get a single yard is just painful. I hate this team, I hate Art Rooney II, I hate Matt Canada even more and I'm really starting to dislike Mike Tomlin too. The disappointment after a good draft and some big moves in the offseason is immeasurable.

The reason it's so disheartening is that there is no hope. You know it's not gonna be better next week, the same problems that have been there for years will still be problems next week, next year, etc. That's why Tomlin has to go. I actually had hope this year, we made moves that addressed chronic issues in the off season, the boys looked good in pre season and I actually thought, maybe Tomlin can prove me wrong this year, and now we are where are today. Tomlin is a good coach albeit not perfect. One of his deficits is not encompassing the rough, and rugged Western Pennsylvania attitude about not being bullied. Cowher knew that above all else for his team to be physical. He grew up in western Pa. so it is part of his DNA. Steeler teams in the past were known for being tougher. Before the Steelers reached prominence in the 70's the historical teams physically made any team that played them, even if that team beat them that same team lost the next game they played due to the Steelers hitting them. I am 74 years old, and worked as a vendor at Forbes Field, and Pitt Stadium when the Steelers played their games there, and remember how physical those teams were. I grew up on the street (Allegheny Avenue) that intersects where the Roonneys house is. Art Rooney Senior gave us dimes when we were children (a beautiful and kind man). That said I remember these Northside dark-haired Irishmen's ruggedness. I remember when the Steelers upset the Packers in one of their Championship seasons due to the fact that the Steelers were out-hitting them. Maybe the concussions sustained by Pickeet still affect his physicality. I am post-concussion times three and still not correct physically. The Steelers will recover and I predict a 9 and 7 record with the ability to upset some higher-tiered teams. The 49's game was a reality check for the Steelers. They will learn from it with this young team. In closing when the Steelers trainer retired at Pitt Stadium a reporter asked him what game he remembers seeing the most injuries? His answer was the SF 49s vs. the Steelers he recorded 18 injuries. Don't forget that the Steelers upset the 49's perfect season, and coach Walsh said that the Steelers employed basic physical football. So there seems to be a lot of bad blood between East, and West. Go Steelers.

I've been a Steelers fan living in Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas since 1977. I know my team inside and out. Tomlin's success was all Ben's arm. It was Ben who came back in the 4th quarter all those times. It was also Ben doing 75% of the play calling. Because that's what 2 time SB winning quarterbacks do. Lets not forget how many seasons the Steelers came out and wasn't prepared to play the first 3 or 4 weeks, Tomlin and Canada's time is up, they need to go.

Tell me what Tomlin does that warrants him being the head coach? He doesn’t call plays for the offense or the defense, he doesn’t assemble a competent coaching staff, he doesn’t win playoff games. People like him, great. Do you want a friend or a winner? Tomlin blaming the players for not executing the plans, instead of the coaches for horrible plans is a joke.

Pat awesome perceptive man! Yinzer runs in your veins. All Yinzer nation isn't attacking, it's just enough is enough, it can't be all the players or that means someone is not correctly brining in talent 🧐. Maybe, just maybe, now it's time for the coaching to go to the well and look at the reflection.

🖤💛🖤💛 TOMLIN was never supposed to inherit the Pittsburgh Steelers. He slipped on a banana peel and somehow got the job of the head coach of the team that was built to go to multiple Super Bowls. Ken Whisenhunt should’ve been Pittsburgh’s coach. I’ve always said that I’ve never liked mike Tomlin never ever.He would have been a good Minnesota Vikings head coach, but not the Pittsburgh Steelers. He ran been into the ground. Ran James Conner into the ground. Miss uses Najeh Harris juju Smith even said he learn more from Andy Reid in six weeks then he ever learned in four years from Mike Tomlin been time to move on from that guy. It’s a new era now

Now that is the furthest thing from the truth. Ben was a turn over machine, and made a ton of bad plays. Was he the worst QB? No. But that playoff stat shows how knee capped they've been for years. Let's get real. Ben should have been axed a few years prior to when he was. Just like Matt Ryan.
