If you go through a sponge first with the hole saw it will fill the hole saw bit. Then you just wet the sponge in the middle and as u apply the presser to the glass the sponge will compress and release water and keep your glass nice and wet. Saves your other hand to keep it steady. Hope this will help you more............. might be quicker x

Will never drill a tank but best explanation of the process I've seen. Eventually a German syphon system like Greg Sage uses. U need to drill for a sump but not a trickle filter.

I was gonna buy the bit a few weeks ago, but I brought my 40gal up to a glass repair shop and he drilled it for me for 20 bucks, but i got the 40gal for free, I ended up turning it into a vivarium that now houses an anole and live tropical plants with a mistking misting system. I only needed the hole for a uv light. Thx for makin the vid , maybe Ill buy a diamond bit and attempt it myself next time.

People seem to be very intimidated by this. But it's actually quite easy: Measure thrice, and drill slowly. Cory covers all the key points, excellent tutorial! The last tank I drilled was a $600 WaterBox. Same principles apply. (I like sumps) ...And draw an arrow on the template lol. full kits like EShopps come with templates if you want a full box. User preference though, stand pipes and weirs work just as well

I need to evolve my operation before I will have choice pdo this. WHen the time comes, this would certainly give me confidence. This week's trick will be installing an under sink RO system. I need someone to kick my butt so I don't just do a dodgy install at my basement laundry tubs as a cop out. Haha

instead of using tape, clamp a bit of wood on the inside. it will give you a much cleaner cut and also spread the pressure of the clamp

Stuff a piece of sponge/insulation/paper towel inside the hole saw. Saturate it with water. It will automatically feed your drill.

Hello I think this video was a great subject to cover and you nailed it! As a super green fish keeper I'd like just a bit more advice please. I have a 10 gallon tank that I want to drill but as a rookie I don't want to drill to low. Will placement of the hole make my water line to the middle of the hole? Is there any way to raise the water line back to the bottom of the black rim? Thank you for your videos Bud
@SteenfottAquatics
@SteenfottAquatics 3 жыл бұрын
So you would build the same overflow that Cory built here. If you drill your tank in the middle. Screw on your bulk head, get a 90 degree pvp adapter, and a piece of straight pvc and cut it to length (however far to the black rim) After that you will be able to turn the 90 degree adapter down to lower the water, then move it back up when you fill up the tank.

Could you not clamp a piece of wood cut to the same ( minus the hole ) dimensions as your template, in place of the tape, extra support no chip out and doesn't allow it to drop through?

Do you have a brand aquarium tank that you know doesn't have the side glass tempered? I bought a 55 gallon from petco a while back for that dollar a gallon sale, tried this, and it shattered on me. I guess you're saying the 40gallon tanks are more likely not to be tempered?

All you need to test if it's tempered is some polarized sunglasses, why would you put a drill anywhere near a tank without looking? Ok, they mentioned that at the end...
