Used to fly a businessman's private aircraft doing this sort of work. By the time you add up getting to the airport, check-in, screening, all the enroute delays due to WX or traffic and the disembarking chaos at the other end, flying yourself makes so much sense!

Hi Stefan! Your flights are amazing! How do you pay for petrol and fill up - is it just like a petrol station? Are the prices similar to car petrol? Does flying the second busiest air route make you a bit nervous with so many other big aircraft around? When you have a big flight to Sydney or Hobart do you get out of the aircraft going 'glad that's over' or just want to get back in? Is there a difference between single engine small aircraft or twin engine? Do you worry about security and your aircraft?

Hi Stefan love your videos when you fly IFR does ATC give you headings so you can get to your destination a bit quicker.
@StefanDrury3 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I plan a route based on tracks across the ground. Sometimes ATC can vary that either through a heading or to a new waypoint. But yes sometimes, if traffic and weather etc allow, they can give a more direct routing to a waypoint to save time, usually called “track shortening”.

Brilliant stuff Stefan and great to see Milkshake back in the cockpit!! Flying yourself v Qantas has me wondering? No lounge?...no QF Frequent Flyer points? Maybe you could earn Cirrus points for your flying time! As someone who spends a lot of time at my farm in Mansfield Victoria I often hear and see the Sydney-Melbourne traffic with departures via Strathbogie and Arrivals via Mt Buller and Eildon Weir! When Melbourne gets busy they hold over Mt Buller and its not unusual to see 4 or 5 aircraft in a figure 8 holding pattern before proceeding to Melbourne. Looking forward to your next adventure (and Milkshakes!!)

Great video, thanks for sharing Stefan. As a non-pilot, I've always been fascinated by waypoint names, do you have any idea how they're named?
@StefanDrury5 жыл бұрын
Yeah usually Instrument Approach Points are named related to the destination airport. Eg Moorabbin has MMBSA - which indicates Moorabbin, South (it's South of the airfield), and then Alpha, Beta, Charlie, etc for each IAP. But there is no formula for en route waypoints, sometimes they are related to the land feature over which they appear, otherwise I guess someone has the job of naming them which would be fun.

Hey Stefan. I’m hoping this is a private message not a public reply! Enjoy watching your vids, just watched your Mega IFR to Sydney, hope to be doing same in the not too distant future. I noticed in this video that you have the buckle of your seatbelt sitting right over your stomach and I just wanted to suggest that you think about “tightening your lap belt low and tight” below your stomach. If you have an accident, that buckle will rip your innards to pieces...and then I won’t be able to enjoy your vids for a while! By way of background, I’ve just started flying with Sam & Joel at Red Baron again after a hiatus of 15 years so that I can purchase an aircraft and get myself around Australia. I also race cars and after some recent incidents, it’s now a part of the pre race briefing to remind drivers and navigators to keep that buckle off their stomachs. Just thought I’d pass it on for what it’s worth, I know aircraft crashes don’t happen nearly as often as car crashes but it’s best to be prepared. And there are a lot of people watching you so you can set a good example. All the best and I hope your KZbin revenue soon exceeds that 7 year old kid!
