This movie is special for me.. Watched it in the cinemas and it was something else.. This is the best BATMAN movie in my opinion. The fact that we get to witness a young batman is so cool. And this movie goes back to the roots of batman being a detective. The antagonist in this movie is Gotham in my opinion. Gotham in this movie is really really alive.

Hey Stef, not sure if you read graphic novels but Paul Dano who plays the Riddler in this movie wrote a graphic novel called Riddler: Year One that is a prequel to this movie. It's about him and his past and discovering the corruption around the Renewal Fund. It's brilliant and I encourage you or anyone else who is interested in reading it. Thanks for the awesome reaction.

There’s also a prequel comic from Batman’s perspective about learning basic fighting from Alfred, doing street racing, traveling the world to master forensic science, and mastering martial art forms along the way.

great 2 part reactions! if you want to see more of this world's joker there's a deleted scene between him and batman where bruce is so troubled by riddler's messages that he tries to talk to another villain he's locked up before the events of the movie. also when joker talks about the riddler you can tell he doesn't really care, he finds batman more interesting. so really joker's probably gonna manipulate riddler more than it being a genuine friendship.

This film for the most part is based on Batman: Earth One (2012) Graphic Novel. A modernized re-imagining of DC's Mainline Continuity also known as Prime Earth or Earth 0 similar to Marvel's Ultimate Universe a decade before that carried on into 2015. Earth One was much shorter lived compared to Marvel's attempt at a more realistic reinterpretation of it's characters for good or bad depending on how you ask. There's a few changes such as Alfred Pennyworth being the head of security at Wayne Manor during his time working at the Manor. Bruce is also taken hostage by a mugger and demands that the Wayne's by the ransom for Bruce's return. They argue and the mugger attempts to removes Martha's pearl necklace but Thomas intervenes leading to both Thomas and Martha being killed. In most renditions the Wayne's are killed after attending Monarch Theatre a movie theatre that the Wayne's attended to watch a Zorro film and later ventured into Crime Alley where they were gunned down by Joe Chill who I believe was also the mugger in the Earth One comic. Bruce in both Earth One and this film never leaves Gotham to train like in most renditions and instead is trained by Alfred a former Royal Marine, Mainline comics he's got a MI5/MI6 and acting background. Another change is Martha being an Arkham instead of a Kane something they also used in this film as well. Volume Two of this comic also features The Riddler a serial killer who is murdering people in Gotham, hoping to get Batman's attention. And even Oswald Cobblepot in this film is based more on Cobblepot featured in the Earth One comic. The latest Vol. 3 only released back in 2021 so who knows maybe we'll get more Batman: Earth One comics. With the hype surrounding The Batman I could easily see them following off with this more grounded mixed with surrealism take on Batman.
@thomaskilroy45739 ай бұрын
One of the main things this film only implied was the fact that Martha being an Arkham is actually the reason why Bruce chooses to dress as a Bat since Madness and Insanity are things that famously run in the Arkham family and Amadeus Arkham famously saw visions of a giant Bat and the image of the Bat is something that haunts them. Earth One makes that a lot more explicit. But the other primary storylines the film draws from are things like The Long Halloween in that it features Batman and Gordon tracking a serial killer and Catwoman being revealed to be the daughter of Falcone, and Zero Year, with the Riddler being a serial killing terrorist who targets politicians and corrupt individuals and who later floods the city.
@Joshcoshbagosh9 ай бұрын
I would say the primary inspirations for this movie were The Long Halloween and Year One. Not Earth One. There are some Earth One elements you could say, but Idk if I would call it "based" on those books.
@thomaskilroy45739 ай бұрын
@@Joshcoshbagosh Actually, this film has more Earth One elements than Year One elements. By A LOT. Batcave being a disused Wayne Subway Terminal, Alfred being a former MI6 Agent with a facial scar and limping with a cane who also taught Bruce how to fight, Martha being a member of the Arkham family and having madness be a huge part of her and Bruce’s bloodline, Bruce’s grandmother and Martha’s own mother having murdered her husband and then commit suicide, Batman being young and prone to mistakes while always using the phrase “I’m Vengeance”, Thomas Wayne running for Mayor before his death, the Wayne’s originally having supposed to have been assassinated on the orders of a high profile crime lord before a random mugger got there first… …honestly I’m wondering how the fuck you seriously think Year One has MORE to do with the film than Earth One!
@Joshcoshbagosh9 ай бұрын
@@thomaskilroy4573 I haven't read Earth One in a while, so I might just be misremembering. However, the books that were named as the "official" primary sources of inspiration for the movie were TLH, year One, and Ego. There is even a collection that comes with all three.
@thomaskilroy45739 ай бұрын
@@Joshcoshbagosh Yeah…that’s because Mattson and Matt didn’t want to have too many people know too much about Earth One and how much they actually took from it. No offence but if you actually read Earth One then you’ll see that the film may as well have been a complete adaptation of it since it has so many similarities.

Most past versions of the Riddler often had the same core elements: - very highly intelligent character with deep knowledge base across broad range of subjects - psychological compulsion to demonstrate this and lord it over the public, the authorities, and especially Batman - which, as Batman realizes, is also the Riddler's fatal character flaw-being unable to NOT leave behind some hint or clue others won't be able to figure out in time - less prominently: a usually slightly unhinged seeking of vindictive, perverted "justice" for some injustice done to him (theme shared generally by a lot of Batman villains, done incredibly in some, like BTAS Mr. Freeze, and not-so-much in others, like Clock King, or varyingly, like the Penguin, but adding varying degrees of tragedy/complexity to them) Like this movie does with the franchise, the writing and characterization for Riddler here, Dano's performance, takes all those aspects and cranks them all well off the scale. I'd call Dano's Riddler a nearly complete re-imagining, making him seem completely unhinged and psychologically disturbed, partially autistic, and totally obsessed, yet in a way that holds true to those core elements, is actually very topical to people's concerns today, and makes you appreciate him as a serious threat, even just to your emotional calm.

This one is so grounded, and yet so comic book at the same time. And this version re-imagined so many things, like Catwoman/Selina and Bruce Wayne and even Gotham City. This is also the only real movie which focused primarily absolutely on Bruce Wayne himself, this broken human being trying to impose order and right on the world.

This movie is a masterpiece, so many people thought to be out of place yet they managed to pull off this incredible dark-grim drama that the early years of Batman should be like and sure there are a few cast choices that i find questionable but overall it seems fairly spot-on along with the Director's decisions Robert's performance is exactly as i thought it would be when it was first announced he would play Batman However i think Paul Dano's performance as the Riddler is nothing short of achieving the impossible, an absolutely flawless, perfect performance that leaves me speechless no matter how many times i watch his scenes

I loved this when it came out. Best Batman film by a mile and the most authentic to the source material. As fun as the Nolan trilogy is, it's not a Batman trilogy - it's a Bruce Wayne trilogy. In this film, you actually feel like the real Bruce Wayne died in that alley with his parents and all that is left is a vengeful shell. He's not charasmatic, he is damaged and obsessed and that is who Batman really is. A lot of people complained that there wasn't enough of the "Bruce Wayne persona" but it wasn't needed. Also, he doesn't alter his voice so if he was a more public figure, the cops would certainly recognise his voice. Best Batman film, best Batman and one that is FINALLY showing off his detective skills. Can't wait for The Batman - Part 2
@neils12310 ай бұрын
Man I love this film so so much. Batman as a true detective flick. Robert Pattinson is a great Batman. And Paul Dano... I mean, he's phenomenal in everything he does, but he absolutely killed it here. Personally, Heath Ledger's Joker notwithstanding, I like this one better than any of the Nolan films.

Upon first watch of this movie, I wasn't necessarily too excited about another version of Joker, since we've had about five different Jokers played by five different actors. However, after watching the deleted scene, I cannot wait to see how this 'new' Joker fits into this more comic book version of Batman. What would really be great is if they brought in more villains from the comics, or even the video games, into the sequel. Give me Scarecrow from Arkham Asylum or Arkham Knight.

What I find interesting about probably the 2 best Batman movies (The Dark Knight & The Batman), no disrespect to the 2 Tim Burton movies, is the structure and plot lines follow 2 other unbelievable movies. The Dark Knight is Christopher Nolan’s ode to Michael Mann”s Heat. He loves that film and the 2 films are structured almost identically. The Batman plot is a venomous copy of David Fincher”s Seven. Once you see all 4 films clearly you can not unsee how the 2 Batman movies are not linked 2 their glorious predecessors.

This is by far a MUCH more accurate and faithful depiction of the comics than the Nolan trilogy which, though good, really feels more just like a Nolan film with characters based on Batman. This IS comic Batman and this Gotham is just perfection. Nolan never did Gotham well at all. It never seemed like it’s own city and was just a Chicago stand-in. I like Chicago, but Gotham is not Chicago. If anything Metropolis from Superman has more of a Chicago feel. Gotham NEEDS to feel very European and Gothic. Which is why a lot of Batman stuff always films here in Britain.

Do you intend to watch "the father" of modern Batman movies and modern superhero movies in general - "Batman" (1989), by Tim Burton? There's a gothic style Gotham city, old school style gangsters, more realistic Batman in skill-wise (not over the top, indestructible super-ninja), Jack Nicholson's Joker (winning an Oscar for the role, like any other GOOD Joker after him) and all of this in a comic-book style world. And if you want to see THE Catwoman - Michelle Pfeiffer, there's the sequel - "Batman Returns" (1992). I hope you`ll give them a chance, they're classics.
