Just to be clear: in the comics, Bruce Wayne _did_ travel the world for his training to become Batman. He did more training than any person ever could in one lifetime - martial arts (literally all of them), stealth, sleight of hand, lockpicking, forensics, multiple foreign languages, disguises, escape artistry, etc - he's mastered all of it in addition to training his body to the peak of natural human capacity. However, he was NOT trained by the League of Shadows or R'as Al Ghul. That was something made up specifically for this trilogy. It fits pretty well though, given that the League uses a lot of the same tactics as Batman does.
@bigdream_dreambig
@bigdream_dreambig Жыл бұрын
That's odd. I would have _sworn_ that I read a Batman comic predating this film (in the early '90s) that did in fact indicate the training connection. The only reason I remember it is because it was my first introduction to R'as Al Ghul.
@Tantalus010

@@bigdream_dreambig You might be thinking of Kirigi. Kirigi trained Bruce in martial arts and then much later, long after completing his training, Bruce found out that he was also working for the League as a trainer. But no, Bruce never trained with the League itself.

Well he did eventually train briefly with Ra’s later. But Henri Ducard as you know is a separate person(no one pronounces his first name right they all say Henry). But yeah in the comics he traveled and trained for 12 years as opposed to 7. I think they changed the league’s name because Bruce wouldn’t join a group calling themselves assassins. I guess it all depends on the continuity, I usually go post crisis but pre new 52. You probably know more than I do. I always thought of this as Year One the movie(Falcone,Flass,Comm. Loeb,Bats using….well bats to escape a police chase,a first night out without the Batsuit,A young Gordon and the mention of Joker at the very end are all from Year One) Until The Batman I felt this was the best “Batman” movie(as in it’s about Batman). But now I think they’re equal. I think Affleck have the best performance overall as Batman though,he was just in the wrong movies

What Rachel is trying to say is that she fell in love with the Bruce that she grew up with. However, that Bruce has taken a back seat to Batman. Even Bruce identifies more with Batman now than he does his real self. But, she is also aware that the real Bruce is still there and once Batman as an identity is gone, she will be there for the real Bruce.
@blueroninstudios
@blueroninstudios Жыл бұрын
If we're following the comics closely ..... Bruce Wayne technically dided in that alley with his parents. Batman is who he really is, and Bruce Wayne is the facade. So in a way, Rachel is right. In the animated tv series there was a psychologist who was trying to drive Bruce Wayne crazy, but it failed. Someone asked him why it failed that he got into Bruce's head and he said to them, "I knew it was fake because the voice kept calling me Bruce. I don't think of myself as Bruce."

I get that's the intention, but when you put that scene next to the scene where she slaps and criticizes him for being a depressed, revengeful Bruce... it makes 0 sense. The "Bruce" she claims to have loved and left was a hopelessly depressed, shell of a man. He comes back a changed man with purpose, a mission, and a moral conscience, and yet when Rachel finally sees Bruce for the man he has become (without the cowl or the playboy facade) she tells him, "Nah, I miss the emo kid. Maybe when Batman's not around that dude will come back." It's a terrible rationale.
@denniszenanywhere
@denniszenanywhere Жыл бұрын
@@Alan-iu1we I don't think Rachel likes the old Bruce, she is just saying she also doesn't like the new fake Bruce who pretends to be a playboy; the playboy image is the mask, and she knows they can never be together because he's more Batman now. Either way, whether she is with Bruce or Batman, they have no future. This is what I like about the Batman series; it has more sense to it than other superhero movies.

While I think that’s initially true Bruce’s journey is about finding himself again imo I don’t believe Bruce Wayne died in the alley with his parents. They never cover Batman's actual abilities (except fighting ability) in the films because Hollywood is lazy about that kind of thing so his gadgets are supposed to make up for everything else. It's sad because the training and dedication is what makes Batman a superhero without superpowers. The "I'm rich" line from Justice League is the perfect example of this, it's a cheap laugh but they also don't do much of anything in the film to dispel the idea that that is his only "power".

Rachel at the end was trying to explain that Batman and the needs of the city are one entity, but she doesn't want a relationship with that since she would always be 2nd, or perhaps just a distraction to his efforts (since she is a noble crime fighter also in her own right). She just loves Bruce as the 'man' and in the hopes that he may one day give up the mask, she left him the strongest message that she will be waiting if that occurs. But will he leave the mask? Watch Ep 2... ha.

I had to sit through two other panels at Wondercon to see Christian Bale talking about "Batman Begins." After the disaster of "Batman and Robin," there was a lot of trepidation over a new live action Batman film coming out, but Bale was so passionate and understood the character so well (back then we didn't realize what a crazy, obsessive method actor he was) that I was absolutely sold and thought "They're going to get it right!" When the movie did come out, it didn't disappoint.

The problem with Rachel is she was originally designed to be the voice of Bruce's conscience back when he was still struggling to reconcile vengeance and justice. However, once he became Batman and gained a firm grip on his morality, Rachel continued being a self-righteous woman who constantly questioned Bruce's motives - which makes her come off as arrogant and unlikable.

There is a classic Batman origin story written by one of the best comic writers of all time, a guy by the name of Dennis O'Neill, and it's called "The Man Who Falls." Batman perches on a rooftop gargoyle over Gotham and thinks abot his life up to the point where he puts on the costume, and his thoughts take him all over the world from Chinese monasteries where he learned martial arts to seedy European towns where he hung out with criminals to understand them and become a better detective. It's a movie's job to answer questions. Ideally, you SHOULD be confused going into a movie. I think it's far more exciting that way; to go on a ride you don't know the destination of. Kind of the wonder of movies that I feel is leaving society (product of impatience/convenience). A movie poses questions with no answers, and then gives those answers as it develops. These are the best kind of movies. The best (and I think, most entertaining) thing one can do is just go along for the ride and live in the moment. 🤘

I overall like the Dark Knight Trilogy, but I'm glad Rachel's attitude bugs you. It honestly doesn't get any better with the Dark Knight. Rachel is lowkey the worst character in Nolan's trilogy... she is an overly selfish character who constantly flip flops her position with Bruce and becomes a constant thorn in his side throughout the movies. I've joked with friends that Rachel is the true villain of Bale's Batman, cause she essentially spends every movie torturing Bruce psychologically in some way. (FYI, this is NOT a rant on women. 'Batman' (1989) was a good introduction to the hero that Batman is... 'Batman begins' is an extended version of his origin story... It carries on in the trilogy of 'The dark knight'... and 'The Dark Knight rises'. "Batman v. Superman" (2016) finds an older Batman taking on threats beyond his abilities. 'The Batman' (2022) is the closest to the comic books - his crusade as Batman emerges in Year 2. It is also the darkest of all the Batman movies and has more Batman than Bruce Wayne.

Rachel loves batman, and bruce is the mask she doesnt like, the man he has to be to the public. We dont see them much as kids, but with how she talks about it im guessing bruce was wanting justice and to do something about it, to be brave and bold, all of the qualities he has to hide with his mask. Everyone seems to hate Rachel, but she was his best friend and childhood love and i'm sure they talked alot about what they wanted when they grew up... and she didnt see bruce doing any of those things while she was doing everything she could to better the city. She just wanted him out of his bubble and fighting with her. She was a great motivation and had some powerful lines for sure.

Batman has many villains. Growing up and reading comics The Joker was one of the main villains but there were many others that came and went. If you watch the Batman (1989) movie it starts with The Joker as the main villain. Batman Returns (1992) has a different villain. I wouldn't bother with the 3rd or 4th movie. These are a more serious version but still somewhat silly version of the 1966 Batman TV series which was like a silly comic come to the screen. So you understand, Ra's al Ghul 1st appeared in 1971 and Batman first appeared in 1939. It was this movie that basically put Batman and this villain together in this way. So you kept saying you didn't know, well neither did anyone else as they basically rewrote part of Batman's origin. Each movie seems to have to rewrite in some small amount Batman's origin.

This isn't stuff you didn't know necessarily. Every new version of Batman uses the old comics as a loose guideline, then changes and embroiders a lot. Tim Burton's version of the murder of Bruce's parents is completely different. The earliest Batman in the comic books had no problem killing criminals. His character evolved as time went by, partially because of the times. No one thought anything of Batman being more brutal back in the 1930's. He became less violent over the next couple of decades because of censorship, so it wasn't even an issue for a while. His popular 1960's TV show was technically a comedy. By the 1970's, censorship loosened and writers made him more serious and more aggressively anti-murder and anti-gun as part of his character. The story of young Bruce falling down the well, his fear of bats, his "lost years" and training with R'as al Gul was all concocted specifically for this version. In the comics, Batman didn't meet R'as al Gul until much later in life, and under entirely different circumstances. This wasn't the first Batman movie, of course. Just the first of this trilogy. The title Batman Begins made it clear that these movies were making a clean break from the franchise that started with Tim Burton's version, so it's more accurate to say that this was Batman Re-Begins.

U still have to watch the first 2 Tim Burton's batman, from 89 and 91. Michael Keaton is the best Batman and my opinion is Jack Nicholson is the best Joker. Tim Burton's direction is more strange and weird, and he tried to give u feels from the TV show , which was definitely off center!

Your Patron's know what's up, this is the next best trilogy ever made. I mean, you can't really beat LotR. But Nolan is my favourite director, I can recommend all of his movies, especially Interstellar.

Oh yeah, Batman, Bruce I mean, was handpicked to be the successor to the Demon's Head aka the leader of the League of Shadows. He trained under Ras, was supposed to marry his daughter Talia (the mother of Damian Wayne) and live for centuries as the hand that guides fate. Luckily for man, Bruce has morals

People are saying that Batman is the real Bruce. There's 3 Bruce's in this, as confirmed by both Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale. There's playboy fake mask Bruce, there's the raging beast that Bruce transforms into as Batman. And then there's real Bruce who is flawed but very real and still working on himself

You probably already know this by now but these are directed by Christopher Nolan, who also directed Interstellar which was made 9 years after this movie, among other masterpieces, so it's no surprised that these are widely considered to be some of the best superhero movies ever made, particularly the first sequel, and one of the best trilogies period, arguably the greatest director of our generation and no doubt will further cement this status in the coming years. This really is one of the best comic book characters to create in a grounded and realistic world. He is a big believer in using practical effects where possible.

Just a note that Rachel gets recast in the second movie. She had a scheduling conflict. Also Speaking of Rachel it's funny that she doesn't like that Bruce might put Batman first, yet the whole movie she's putting her job ahead of Bruce. She's just as determined as Bruce to fix the city, Bruce accepts that, she can't. Unfair of Rachel

I so align with your view, Batman is not a superhero, he is dark, he has special skills of which he is a master off, but yes, I’m drawn to him because he’s a man who is extremely selfless and a force for good. Rachel says that his face is his mask, the billionaire playboy but the real Bruce is Batman, the hero Gotham needs to help protect the city, the one who Rachel loves but can never have and so she longs for him because Batman will always need his mask Bruce Wayne to hide behind. Yeah the Joker intro was amazing and left us hanging in the end to wait for it for a year :) ...

Rachael was in love with Bruce Wayne. Batman came back after seven years, Bruce is simply the disguise he uses to go out in public. Ergo for Bruce to get Rachael he'd need to give up Batman.

Rachel's status makes sense. Bruce disappeared for years and presumed dead then he suddenly showed up and was working on his Batman project while confronting his fears and trying to fit back in portraying his Billionaire identity. Her interactions with Bruce were very limited after seeing each other after all those years so it makes sense isn't crazy in love with him just like that. To her, he was her childhood friend.

She seems to cut the most important parts... scarecrows mask and a few others so far only 22 minutes in but I am starting to wonder if she is better watching the whole movie. Most people show the most important parts and she seems to cut them completely... I understand it because I know the movies front to back but most viewers don'. I don't think she is worth watching because you won't get the full picture unless you subscribe.

Stef, the Bat never kills, or he becomes the enemy, that is one line the Bat never crosses, but he is a massive hypocrite, going after the criminals, not the people who turned them criminals, if he did, being rich, he would have to go after himself and get himself sent to prison. Also, the Tumbler has been clocked at at least 110 mph.

Bruce Wayne did not come back from his 7 years spiritual path, Batman did. So Rachel said she loved him because at the end whether he has his mask on, she is facing the Batman not Bruce. And she hopes that when Batman will no longer be needed, she would be able to find back the Bruce she loved.
