Very promising. I hate how you can eventually terraform every planet in other 4x games.
@MeidoInHebun8 жыл бұрын
+Tobias Terraforming are very late game technologies, you want to use other species and robots to properly make use of planets not suited to your main species, and gas giants and other types of planets cannot be terraformed and colonized, but instead you extract resources from them. Edit: I misread your post to mean like in other 4x games, sorry.

+Tobias I would rather terraforming be more expensive early, so inwardly focused civilizations could fully exploit their home system. We could terraform mars, venus, and many moons with our current technology, it would just cost many trillions of dollars to do well.

The research and approach to tech is the stuff that is truly new, from what we've seen so far. The rest is re-hash from 4x or Pdox games. I think it'll be enough to reboot this genre, other companies were complacent, they just released sequels without adding anything new to the equation or worse, not even offering as much as previous titles did. Colony management and the UI looks very much like any other Pdox game, I really do hope the tech stuff actually works as they wanted to and the AI/diplomacy won't ruin what looks like a relaxing & rewarding experience.

+madzaisa I wouldn't want to manage hundreds of planets alone, would you like to manage hundreds of planets alone? Yea, fuck that. I can definitely see why this is in place as it also helps with the internal struggle in your empire.

+madzaisa It's really tedious to micromanage them all in the end. I like the autonomy system.
@madzaisa8 жыл бұрын
+Daniel Paul Sure, it isn't for most cases. But it also not realistic for every space Empire to b a copy of feudal kingdom from Crusader Kings, because it's that those Administrative sectors basically are. I'm all for outsourcing some work for AI, even almost all work after i'm done with basic setup, in general AD seems like great idea. But i'm against forcing every Empire to follow the same path. 5-10 manually controlled planets for every type of Government seems like a huge waste. Why, for example, i can't have highly centralized militaristic empire with like 20-30 manually controlled planets and huge penalties for every additional planet (with AD or not). But no. every Empire going to be the same - so much for diversity. And for all folks dreaming about huge 100+ planets Empires you cannot micro. If you try to listen a bit closer to video, the guy was pretty clear about Huge Empire = constant revolts. So instead of playing with building you are going to play wack-a-mole against rebellions all day long. Nice alternative. And Huge Empire will fall apart as a part of mechanic allowing players to play both "wide" vs "tall" Empires (without rebellions "wide" will always win like in other 4X games).
@doggo_s198 жыл бұрын
+madzaisa have you ever played a paradox grand strategy ? you clearly have no idea about the depth/complexity of what the developer said. it's about your influence on vassals, using political measures, policies, etc in getting what you want on these other planets you own... a lot of 4x makes you play as "god" where you have direct control of each planet and has no political aspect to colonies... go play ck2 or something to see what i mean
@madzaisa8 жыл бұрын
+Ragnar Danneskjöld I played every major Paradox Grand Strategy and most of major 4X. So i know that is all about. But i don't know how it's related to Stellaris. Stellaris is a mix of 4X and Grand Strategy. And where is simply no way that Stellaris will have the level of complexity in relationship with Administrative Sectors as in CK you have with vassals. Because it's not a central focus of the game. And all this "complexity" is only in your head.

Dear Paradox / Anybody in the know: 1) What is meant by "tall v wide"? 2) When you conquer a world what happens with that population? Do they remain a different species forever? Or can I breed them out of existence to make governing easier. 3) Is thre any forced end date? 4) Is there any campaign? 5) Have Paradox ever considered a situation where, if you win the galaxy, a hyperdrive link to another galaxy exists, so that you then become the invader that's discussed here? Could be a fun end game scenario? 6) I get the pacifistic civilisations find it easier to get on, but is there a modifier whereby similar species get on better or worse?
@KimiEclipse8 жыл бұрын
1) I think what he means by tall is making you empire smaller but stronger internally rather than a huge empire with larger controlled territories but with less controll on the population. Not sure though. 2) You can purge a population which means you basically exterminate it. Some people may not like that however :D 3) There is no forced end date. 4) You make your own campaign. That't the magic of these type of games. You essentially choose your own destiny. 5) Don't think so, that would be so much beyond end game that it's literally not even on the map :P 6) Yes. Not a big modifier but yes.

+CristalSteel People who complain about the DLC don't understand how amazing their DLC model is. None of them are required, the base game is playable. But it allows for a games life to be greatly extended. I can count on 1 hand the number of games over the past 20 year I've kept coming back to 3-4 years after release. For the $20 or so every 6 months to enjoy an evolving game for 4 years and that is amazing. So for my $200 I've gotten over 1000 hours of enjoyment from a game. Compare that to buying a new game that I could expect 20-30 hours max out of.

Stellaris seriously needs hands-on tactical combat (real time or turn based). For a lot of us this would be like having the Total War series with only 'auto resolve' battles available. It greatly downplays the 'exterminate' aspect of the 4x genre.
@DatKoyote8 жыл бұрын
+Simon R No. This is a grand strategy game with 4X elements. I hate having to do manual battles after battles of mowing down armies after armies because the only way the AI can compete is by spamming free units, because the tactical AI is incompetent.
@simonjrobinson8 жыл бұрын
+Quentin F The trouble is that they're alienating a lot of potential customers. I appreciate that a lot of gamers don't want hands-on combat (fair enough), but at least give us the option. That way the game would appeal to an even greater player base, and those who don't want combat can toggle it on and off in the options menu - everyone wins, especially the developers.
@firestarter0000018 жыл бұрын
+Simon R Well i love tactical combat in my 4x, so i woudl prefer it , but even with this approach there could be some depth in the combat due to ship designing. We will see. Looks great and all, brings new ways of seeing old things, but no high orbit planetary combat, nor surface combat/view is a huge deal breaker for me here. With those two things in place it'd be okay. I also quite dislike the outer solar system rim with a predefined path. I'm tired of seeing that, and it's not hard to inovate in that area, just make "jumps" and warp possible from any location in the solar system and tighten the map, much like a continent, instead of a conglomerate of islands. Then allow travel to any location at early game with that jump, so the galaxy ca be explored at pace. Later on with ftl available set some points for hyperlanes and wormholes.

+Marco Polo it is like other paradox grand strategies, you wont handle all administrative tasks of every single planet, that's an issue a lot of 4x have, instead it is delegated to characters, vassals, etc, and you have to use political and other influence among those vassals to push certain things of what you want, it's much more a real political approach than a very "gamey" way most 4x do. there's a lot of depth/complexity with the paradox approach in other of their games they are bringing into stellaris. in other typical 4x you are too much of a "god", where you have direct control over every planet, that's not how empires/civilizations work, those games all lack the political and influence layer of the interaction of your people running the colonies, stellaris comes to address that.

+Milijan Vukalo There'll surely be day one _"increased __-demesne-__ planet limit"_ mods...

+Milijan Vukalo It's actually a fantastic and more realistic system. It will get rid of one of the most tedious problems with 4x end game. It also creates another layer to the game in which internal problems can arise.

It's just one galaxy? ...

+Olly you do realize how far galaxies are actually apart from each other, right? even if you had the technology to travel from one end of our galaxy to the other in 1 second - it would still take you centuries to reach a different galaxy at that speed
@Oliver94028 жыл бұрын
crasherball there are 100 billion stars in the milky way galaxy alone and another 100 billion galaxies in the observable universe. This game only gives 1 thousand stars in 1 galaxy. They could at least give us a few billion stars right? ahah

Olly some might say computers have some sort of limit to how much content they can represent and calculate at any given time..... :) I'm sure the 1000 planet limit is a cap for performance reasons. and i'm sure you'll be able to mod the game to increase the planet-count
