Stellaris Nexus Announced (A Completely new Stellaris Strategy Game)

Stellaris to me satisfies the niche of getting to run a space empire in detail and once the detail is lost I can think of other games that streamline their gameplay better like star Realms or Chess and still don't take that long to play. This feels like it's for someone who likes the idea of Stellaris but hates actually playing it. Because even if I just have an hour, I can still play an hour of Stellaris.

For most people its hard to find multiple that have the time playing multiplayer sessions across several evenings. And it gets harder to find time slots the older everyone gets. I gave up trying to find someone. Most didn't wanted to because they thought we could never finish a single game and others dropped after the second session because there was so much time inbetween sessions that they forgot what their plan was and they had to spend the first hour trying to figure out the situation. It seems this game just wants to be a fun little multiplayer experience. Nothing more. Get a few friends, play one or two games and everyone is satisfied. That seems to be the idea.

Hmmm, got excited for a second, but this really reminds me of when Civilization Beyond Earth made the spinoff Starships, which could have been a great addition, but ended up being a mobile looking minigame. Getting the very same feel here.

This game looks basically like a "Masters of Orion" game with an Stellaris skin on top, but i'm not complaining, at least now i'll be able to finally make my friends play Stellaris

Those hardware specs puts it in the Steam deck range, so they could be targeting that market.

I think Paradox miscalculated, what the Stellaris player base wants, because they look at the popularity of multiplayer streamers, whereas the vast (and underrepresented) majority of players only play single player and don't care about this at all.

Personally, I don't think this is directed at existing Stellaris players. It's more a case of widening the player base whilst building a franchise. That's my take on it anyway.

As someone who wants to play Twilight Imperium but cannot blow 10 hours on it, this definitely fills the niche I want.

This is developed by Whatboy a small indie company. Paradox Arc is the publisher. So no worries, Paradox is still fully vested to Stellaris! :)

I'm in 2 minds about it. Many of the stellaris purists are going to scoff at it and say it's a watered down mobile game and a waste of time even though simple mobile games can be fun and enjoyable but they could be right. However for paradox this is actually a pretty bold idea and hopefully it works out for them. We sometimes forget that paradox is a studio that needs to make money, making games is a very expensive process and we sometimes loose sight on the fact money isn't infinite and game interest wavers over time including stellaris. if we want more games from studios, games we may not be interested in like this are often needed to have a budget required to release a high another high quality game.

No doubt it will make *some* money for Paradox. Question is: will it make as much as Stellaris DLC, per hour of dev time spent? Then again, maybe this "mini" version will be the entry point for new players, and will drive future sales for the "full" Stellaris - so it shouldn't be viewed in isolation?

Personally I would bet for a Stellaris 2, the game start to feel like it's reaching it's limits and performance beeing a problem so deep already hurts a lot.. also not counting with the systems added by DLC that felt that are stick with ducktape

It's interesting. Hopefully this is a good way for paradox to test what simplifying the mechanics does to gameplay, so we can get a Stellaris 2 that is perhaps a tad less byzantine, but still retains the same spirit. Personally doesn't interest me, I like stellaris because of the narratives you can make along hours of campaign, a short combat-focused session doesn't interest me, except maybe on sale.

I'm getting vibes of some of those old flash games whose name escapes me, where the idea was your planet numbers ticked up in real time, and then you could split those numbers off to send them somewhere else and they were both your pops and fleet power, only a little more involved. Could be interesting, but I've always thought trying to turn Stellaris into a franchise was a weird idea in and of itself when there's only one game out. As for the Star Trek game, I still have Birth of the Federation installed so I'll definitely keep an eye out on that.

Civilization Revolution managed to make for extremely enjoyable 2 hour full civ games and this was released 15 years ago. It's absolutely doable. Just has to be marketed at the right people.
