I'm really looking forward to trying my third attempt at watercolours. In my earlier years bluebell woods were a favourite of mine. Back then I worked with free-machine embroidery and so trees and flowers were perfect subjects. Later I changed to encaustic wax and again bluebell woods featured a lot. Now I'm 80 and recently I decided to look on KZbin for help. When I found your beautiful work and helpful tutorials I started to paint, often in the middle of the night when I can't sleep , but painting stills my mind. My first painting was of your clover. So exciting to do and so pleased with the results. Thank you Karen x

@KarenRiceArt Actually, Karen, would you believe that I saved a front cover from an Art magazine for many years. It was a photo extremely similar to your painting. I decluttered the cover after many years cos I didn't have the techniques to reproduce the details and layers easily. It's brilliant that chances come round a second time in life. Thank you 🤗. I've also always wanted to be able to incorporate non-brush techniques to achieve "more for less" but our then art teach didn't employ any such 'tools' so i was double excited to see this video of yours ... I just have to get started again now as music practice has taken over 😆.... xG Ire

Such a wonderful painting. How did you keep your painting wet so long? My paper seems to dry sooner.

I really soaked the paper. Also Saunders Waterford stays damp for quite a while. If your painting dries out, spritz with water 😊

Question, Karen. How could you have your paper keeping wet in such a long time?
@KarenRiceArt Жыл бұрын
I went to the paper thoroughly and use to 100% cotton paper which does not dry out as quickly. Hope this is helpful.
@misawafam9 ай бұрын
I have such a struggle with wet in wet because it seems either I get my paper way too wet, or my paper dries way too quickly to have enough time to play around with it much at all. I suppose this all boils down to practice, right?!
@KarenRiceArt9 ай бұрын
You could use a spritzer bottle to spritz your paintings with a fine mist of clean water to stop your painting from drying out. I have always found 100% cotton paper the best as it does not dry out too quickly. Hope this is helpful.
@chrisb797011 ай бұрын
Wonderful tutorial. Feel inspired to give it a go! One question, what kind of salt do you use? Thank you.
@KarenRiceArt11 ай бұрын
I use sea salt but you can use table salt, make sure it's not low salt. I recommend laying down some mid tone washes, wait for your paper to be damp, and sprinkle the salt. Give it time to work. Hopefully you will get some nice results 😊

Did you ever dry the painting while painting....or all wet quickly... what if part of painting dries as you work?
@KarenRiceArt Жыл бұрын
I did dry the painting and have noted drying times in the tutorial. I allow the salt to dry naturally. If the painting dries too quickly you can spritz it with water.

Yes I sprinkled my salt on the painting while it was still damp. You don’t want it to too wet or too dry. Practice makes perfect! 😊
