It has gotten out of hand but that only makes fans on the game get bored. The problem is the nba has hit a cap. If you don’t really like basketball you won’t watch it. Even some people that play it don’t really like to watch. Literally everyone will watch football, generations of people will gather around and watch football and that will never happen with nba. Also because of the length of the season

or its the fact that the game had to evolve and has become a lot more efficient. every team now has 2 to maybe 4 players that can shoot 38 to 42 percent from the 3 point line and the averages for those percentages compared to 2s would be around 56 to 60 percent fg. the 3 point shot is allowing players that are not as athletic to be far more effective, the game has gone from being athletic or just straight up big to players actually requiriing skill to compete. i dont see anything wrong with that...like a decade or 2 ago there were barely any players that even shot off the dribble,nowadays alost every body can do it. players now can just do far far more stuff than back then, idk how that is a bad thing its basically comparing sword fighting to guns. yes one style might be more pleasing to the fans but it doesnt make it better.

@@banksfranks775 He is actually spot on. Jordan may have gained viewership, but most people who aren't biased and have a brain, saw the special treatment he got. Most of us just don't take the nba serious. Jordan isn't even top 5 al time, yet most fans think he is the goat. The clowns, are the people like you, jordan was never the goat and actually is overrated. When you overrate a star, it turns people off. Viewership was only peaking then because of the actual technology allowing for more viewership. IDK why this is so hard to understand. The increase came from magic and bird, it only had small increases during jordans era and had a steady decline since. I would argue the special treatment given to jordan, turned off many serious sports fans. So who you had watching were Fairweather fans who just watch to see someone with a big name. That will only get so many people watching, it wont bring in the die hards that want to watch serious competition with no special treatment. This is why baseball has and always will be greater than basketball. Balls and strikes have always been the same for all pitchers. Umps have never given special zones for players. I understand its hard for you to understand, but its the truth.

Jordon destroyed baseball not by retiring from basketball to play baseball. But because to “Be Like Mike” took kids off the baseball field to the basketball court. It is much easier to get a basketball pickup game with just a ball where baseball requires a lot more kids and mitts, bats, etc…

Everybody had nicknames that was connected to their personality and there was a ton of cross branding endorsements that connected the NBA to the wider culture. Wheaties, Mcdonalds, Hanes, Looney toons, these are some of the things that made the NBA of the 90's so special. Also there was no social media. The NBA peaked in the 90's and its not coming back.

If your call a tech on a player who shows emotions based on your wrong call, then the players won't care or play hard. 3. The NBA has made it hard for fans to watch the game. If you have a league pass for $16.99 a month, you can't watch your local games and Espn games ridiculous 🙄. 4. Load management and coaches sitting players once the team is down by 15 points with 3 minutes to go in the 4th. 5. When you listen to the players' address games the lose they always downplay it . Oh, it's just the beginning of the season, meaning the fans shouldn't care either. 6. The 3 point shot has turned the game into a 3 pt shooting contest. There are no fast breaks anymore cause everyone standing at the 3 point lead can get back on defense. Its a bad product. NBA has to make radical changes. Increase the size of the court and move the 3 pt shot back so only a handful of guys can make it. Let the players, with the bigger court and space, show off their athleticism with one on one moves to basket and more fast breaks.

Increasing the size of the court would make scoring go up.😂 the reason scoring is so high is because of the space of the court and 3 point shooting. Defenses are actually better today and more versatile but it’s near impossible to guard teams today. If anything they need to make the court smaller

I’m not sure why your missing fastbreak points and dunks. Both have statically been going up. There’s more fastbreak points and dunks then there was 20 years ago. The only thing that’s gone down is mid range shots since it’s the most inefficient shot and teams are smarter then they used to be so they shoot less midranges. This runs deeper than just "politics" The issue is, there is too much service and not enough demand. 82 game season, why would a casual fan want to watch a NBA game, when they can just scroll on tiktok or youtube or even just wait till later on in the season because its so long. I myself only watch lakers games because of the Lebron. Back in the day there were limited forms of entertainment, and one of the key forms of entertainment that society could lean on, was sports, heavily favoring the NBA because of Michael Jordan. As a South African that loves sports, I gave basketball (NBA) a chance to learn the sport and I can confidently say it is very boring. It's not about the athletes and their political ties, it is just a horrible product as a whole. The problem with American sports is that they aren't really competitive for most people outside the US/Canada. The lack of relegation, weird way fixtures are set up, and the sport only being relevant in a handful of countries makes it less entertaining. I'm a football/soccer fan, but I'd rather watch tennis than basketball. They need to restructure their competition and promote the sport outside so that other countries have professional leagues. The rules aren't helping the sport as well, it makes it less intense. Also you can't really bet on nba games because people can decide to just stop playing in the dying seconds of a quarter. That time you might need one point for your betslip to win😂

If your team isnt jacking up 3's then you should be fired. 1990's basketball of defense was amazing to watch but it's all about analytics now in sports and basketball is no different. The 3pt % last year was 36.6%, the 2pt percentage was 47.5%. it's simply about the math of it. If you shoot 100 three point shots you would score 106.5 points if you went by the 36.6% average and likewise if you shot 100 two point shots then you would only score 95 points over the same amount of shots if you shoot at 47.5%. You're just scoring at a higher rate by firing 3s. It sucks to watch but it's technically correct strategy.

OK once again. Everyone is wrong. The reason the NBA viewership is falling has nothing to do with the product or racial division. It has to do with ACCESS TO GAMES. NFL comes on regular tv. You don't have to spend 100 a month to watch NFL games. However, every nba game is only on cable tv. Ppl no longer are paying for cable. So if ppl dont have cable how can they watch the games. The future of sports is on streaming services. If i could pay 5 dollars a game to watch the game i want....viewership and revenue will go up. I dont want to watch games of teams i dont have interest in. This is the issue. Not 3s not lebron not politics. The stands are full. So ppl want to watch. Its all about access.

I remember telling my buddies before the season started "The NBA is boring until the playoffs start" and I got shitted on for that. Now they're barely watching the games and can't even tell me who did what on any given night. It's a different product now, I feel like it went downhill after the 2015-2016 season when the Cavs came back being down 3-1 against the Warriors. Coincidentally, it was also the final seasons for Kevin Garnett, Tim Duncan and Kobe Bryant, which felt like the end of an era. Whether it's the 3-point shot, woke politics integrated in the NBA or just a lack of storylines from teams or players, it is definitely a different product and the viewership numbers speak for themselves.

Easy fix for the NBA. Just limit each quater to a maximum of three or four 3 pointers per quater. Step Curry still remains relevant, but no longer dominates. Thus allowing other styles of play to shine aswell in the same match. You could have parallel stars on the same team sharing the limelight.

You make a rule. Same as you have a rule for dribbling the basketball, or the player gets penalized for travelling. It's not that hard. You just need the willpower to enforce it. You could create drama where players pretend to take one of their limited 3 point shots then pass it to a teammate for a regular point. Well it might make for a less predictable and more exciting game. Have you seen how many peculiar rules baseball has. It still draws.
@mattsell2361
@mattsell2361 16 сағат бұрын
@ that’s a good idea in theory, but I’m not sure how well it would work practically. Imagine if a team is down by 3 points with just a few seconds left and they lose because they are out of 3 pointers. I feel like that situation alone makes limiting 3 pointers not possible in a practical sense. But maybe I’m wrong. I think they nba should experiment with something like that in the preseason
@heroperseus007
@heroperseus007 5 сағат бұрын
You make a valid point. Not all change comes easy. However, if a team kept their last 3 point shot for the end of each quater it could make for some seriously tense moments in the sport. Can you imagine one team is ahead by 2 points but have no 3 point shots left and their opposition have one 3 point shot left. I think the basketball commentators and the viewing public would be on the edge of their seats if this was a last quater in a playoff or any game. Question :- Do you use up your 3 shot limit early in a quater to get an early lead or do you play strategically and keep them in reserve for later. If you do not use your 3 point shot limit per quater you lose them. Keep a strict 3 to 4 limit of 3 shots per quater. That still amounts to 9 to 12 points per quater, or 36 to 48 points per game. Stephen Curry and other 3 point specialists are still very relevant, but other components of the game now make a comeback. I think it could lead to a more balanced and exciting game overall.

Listen , I've played basketball all my life. Love the game . However , in recent years I've noticed much more NFL consumption due to one thing; defense. No matter how many rules are in place to protect offensive players , it still is so hard to score the football. It makes watching a 20-17 game so sweaty and nail biting that you don't get to experience in the NBA . Refs protect NBA players on every single play with tick tack fouls that shoot the score up to these insane 140+ numbers . Baskets aren't as valuable anymore . If you want to save the NBA , let the physicality happen and bring down this scoring margin . The 3 point shot never destroyed basketball the defense or lack of has destroyed basketball. Nobody wants to see free throws all game

I have listen to multiple podcasters addressing the decline of the NBA. I have the perfect fix for the issue. Bring back 90s style defense that the rest of the world is currently using, call traveling fouls, call carrying fouls, call the double dribble fouls, allow the hand checking back into the league, and add a 4pt line to the game. History will prove the recommendation I have laid out will bring back the golden era of the NBA. Lastly FIRE Adam Silver because he is to soft of a commissioner. There is no need to limit the 3 pointer if you allow DEFENSES to combat the problem. Have referees that allow players to play and call a foul when it really is a DAM foul. Oh yeah add a Foul call for flopping! I use to have the NBA package for years and now its been almost 10 years since I had the NBA package because the game today is a joke. On the announcement side of things bring back announcers that know the DAM game like popular coaches with a personality, and former players with a personality that are not afraid to say it like it is #KeePiTReal. In closing MJ is the GOAT & Kobe Bryant is head of #LbFlopNoHeartHavingJames! Almost forgot LBJ is on the JUICE father time is undefeated unless your cheating! Spending millions on you health/body per year is a lie he that his camp has been pushing. Example everyone thought Lance Armstrong was so great to do what he did in his sport and got away with it for over a decade. The USSR perfected the use of using the JUICE and how to beat the current test in place for over 25 years! You can put lip stick on a pig ,but it will still be a pig!
