Welcome back to Mystery Monday
This is a sad case, and one that was hard for me to get through and talk about.
In 1979, four children were senselessly murdered.... here is their story.
The more we raise awareness about these cases, the more we keep them in our minds, the more likely that someone somewhere might hear, see or find out something that could crack the case.

I feel like them being able to have another baby despite everything was Justice in a way. The killer may have avoided the law, but he didn't win. His goal was to end their bloodline and because of their perserverance, he was unsuccessful. I hope they find peace in that

I’m not going to say these children were murdered. Their faces were slashed, the little boy’s arm was almost severed, they were stacked on top of each other like garbage... They were butchered. For the first time among the many of your true crime videos, I’m crying. Their last moments were filled with utter fear and pain. I can’t begin to understand how someone could just walk in and butcher these small children. And seeing what they suffered through, I am 100% sure they screamed. You can’t get slashed in the face and not shriek, you can’t have your arm slashed so much that it is almost severed and not scream. People heard them, and nobody did anything - not even the police. I hope they all suffer from their heinous crime of inaction while four little children were butchered. I hope they haven’t been able to have a single moment of peace in the last 40 years. They are all complicit in this slaughter, and I can only hope that they will all be prosecuted to the full extent of Singaporean law soon.

I am the older brother of a young girl. I am 17 and she is 11. We live in Singapore too, just not in Geylang Bahru, although my mother used to live on the outskirts of Geylang Bahru during the time when the Tan children were murdered. If anyone dared to enter our house to commit such a heinous crime, I would definitely fight back too. Kok-Peng was only 10 years old and was not physically strong enough to fight off a murderer, but I am almost twice his age and certainly much stronger than him. I also go to the gym regularly, on alternate days, putting all the focus into bulking my arms and shoulders to make them strong enough for fighting. I keep 2 pocket knives, 1 can of aerosol, 1 circular slingshot that uses almost anything as a projectile, all in my bedroom, in case of a home invasion.

The kids were adorable, and I just feel so sad about this right now. They were such good kids getting up and getting ready themselves so their family could work to make ends meet. And the parents seemed like really good hard working people :(. It did have a good ending which I didn't expect. These kids will be in my thoughts always. When Lee Mei Ying managed to reverse the sterilisation 5 years after the incident a baby boy was born - seems that year would have been 1984, same as my birth year. I hope the parents had some happiness after this horrible tragedy.

One thing to point out is that them calling the man 'Uncle' doesn't mean much. Singapore people call older men/women Uncle/Auntie, like yojr friends' parents. But that aside, he clearly had a more personal relationship with the family. He seems like the best target.

I believe the "uncle" must have been the killer. Everything, from his possible motive, to him having been seen bloody, to him dissapearing afterwards, points to him being guilty and we have really no reason to think otherwise. And isn't it a weird "coincidence" that the hall lady was "washing her hair" by the time the killer must have entered the house? If the "uncle" was really a gang member, he probably threathened her to go back into her house, or to keep quiet about the whole thing. Its just too covineant for it to trully be a coincidence.
@katasue2633
@katasue2633 4 жыл бұрын
Right...they called her "granny" soooo she was probably really old. So the uncle probably scared th out of her with threats...or maybe she was just scared from even knowing without being threatened scared of retaliation

i think it has been a proven fact that a murderer who uses the method of stabbing to kill, is usually close to their victim. and uncle was pretty close to that family...
@the_eerie_faerie_tales
@the_eerie_faerie_tales 5 жыл бұрын
The murder weapons being from the Tan's home makes me think it was someone familiar with not only the family and their schedule, but the interior of their apartment as well. Usually the perp doesn't just go in without their own weapon(s) while relying on whatever is in the victim's home. I'm not sure if it was mentioned or not - if there was signs of forced entry.. but I'm thinking they knew and trusted their murderer. If nobody in the apartment building heard anything, like a struggle or altercation etc, that also points to them knowing the person. They were probably taken by surprise and possibly even in shock.. The slashing of their faces makes me think it's something personal. Oh.. and the nicknames that were used... and the fact that they knew the mother was sterilized... Interesting that the normal "granny hall lady" wasn't at her "post" that day/time. Either she just happened to wash her hair at the time and someone took advantage of the opportunity, or maybe that person bullied her into going back into her apartment. Either way, it'd most likely be someone familiar with apartment building and the occupants habits. It would be helpful to know the time of their deaths so we could see how close it was to the parents leaving, the mom calling, the neighbor checking on them, the hall watch lady not being there, and the guy who got in that taxi with blood on himself and knife in his pocket. I think the "uncle" theory is plausible. He had motive, access, ability, and was picked out if a line up. It's not alarming that the uncle would take a taxi from where he lived, but if it happened right near the time they were killed, and he had blood and a knife on him.. Well.. That's not solid evidence of course but it certainly looks suspect.
@StephanieHarlowe
@StephanieHarlowe 5 жыл бұрын
I was literally so scared when that happened. It was a sign above my sons door that says "you are my sunshine", my heart was beating so hard for an hour. There was no forced entry, so its definitely thought that the kids knew their attacker. And because Uncle had alleged mob ties that is why no one in the building saw or heard anything... they were probably afraid
@camvin575

It could of been more than one person although I doubt that but makes me think were the children tied up? Why didn't at least one try to escape and succeed? I was thinking perhaps someone kept the old lady occupied while the other did the deed then again the lady probably had set days and times on when she 'washed' her hair and perhaps the perp knew this? Could of been someone who they didn't no that had been watching the building for a while and perhaps dressed up as a janitor/police/gas man etc for them to just let the person in. Such an upsetting case.

How about the parents? Why their eagerness to close the case fast and went on to conceive another again within such short span of time? Could they been facing financial difficulties and raising up 4 kids was an issue? It’s not unusual for hopeless parents to sell their kids away than to let them suffer in poverty back in those days. Could it have been a planned mitigated murder but turned gory due to the kids retaliation? All such possibilities shouldn’t be ruled out.

@@BoyG10 Your eagerness to put blame on to the parents bothers me. Your argument just doesn't hold water, unwarranted, not to mention disturbing, they had obviously been checked out, they had alibis, and they weren't trying to close the case fast, in fact they didn't have the power to close it, that would be down to the police.. Also if they had financial difficulties, why not sell them as you say? Why go on to try to conceive another child? (at their own expense!). You either sounded like someone going through manic depressive disorder (If so, I wouldn’t hope to agitate you further) or a stress-stricken mum having to mitigate the stress level between coping with your kids and hoping to be seen as a dutiful mother. You obviously haven’t been reading, aren’t you? Is it not common to see or read about past crimes involving parents; out of personal, mental or criminal intents doing wrongful acts on their own offsprings? Well, judging from your replies on my post I’m concerned for you and your children if you do have them. Thanks but I don’t appreciate that love from London! Please don’t sign it on your messages to me. You obviously aren’t sincere from the disrespectful tone you blatantly put on me. You need serious help I dare say. A very serious one!

Omg! Now that was just crazy and scary. Literally the minute you said the " Uncle" something made that big crash. It was almost like the spirits were telling you. I believe in spirit's. I've had alot of experience with spirit's and truly believe that was a sign. Wow! This is such a sad story. I feel so bad for the parent's having to go on without their Babies. I lost 2 Daughter's to stillbirth and been hard dealing, especially since my 39 week old passed in Jan, during labor. I couldn't even imagine what their going threw and emptiness. The poor kid's had to suffer so bad. Whomever done this is a monster, which I mean def seems like the Uncle had a motive and taking off to not be seen is very suspect. I am so happy she got to have another child. Idk what they been threw, I can't even compare my situation but I can say since my loss I really want to try for another Baby. I am in tears knowing they were able to have a child. No matter what the child will never ever replace their 4 children but it will help some of that empty hole left to them. I truly believe Gid blessed them because of the pain they endured.

The sterilisation law was ultimately classist, rich families could afford the fines and punishments but poorer families couldn't. The TonTin did seem like a motive as the killer might have thought it was easier to kill children than killing adults. They probably thought that the brutal murder might drive the parents to suicide. It's so cruel and unnecessary but I guess they wanted a bigger cut. My late aunt died of cancer over a year ago and guess what, SUDDENLY there were people at her doorstep demanding the unpaid TonTin fees she didn't pay when she was busy emptying her accounts to pay for chemo. People are disgusting. The whole 4D lottery right now only seems like an anecdote but it gives the suspect an even bigger motive.

However, now I can't stop watching your videos and I love how in these cases victims, not the killers, are the main focus. My apologies. I didn't say hi when I commented before so hey, hi. You have a gift for narration and I like how cohesively you tie the facts of these cases together. A family friend of mine from years ago daughter disappeared in Spain and has never been seen since so these mystery cases are of some interest to me. Her surname was McCann as well. Weirdly enough. The mother fought tooth and nail to get help to find her daughter but to no avail thus far. She was 19 when she went missing. So sad that these things go on. There's such evil in the world. Thank God there are many good decent people who care. I like what you do because you just never know who might watch your vids and have some information or something that may help. God bless x

Hi, thank you for presenting this case. It's always all the more harrowing when children are the victims. Also very frustrating when the perpetrators go free, especially when they might be convicted if witnesses were not too scared to testify. The happy ending was very uplifting and would have brought some relief at least to the parent's torment .

was listening to this with headphones on and when that noise rang out when something fell upstairs in your house as you said 'the uncle killed the kids' i jumped a mile!!! i was always a die hard sceptic about ghosts until i was 21- my maternal grandfather was in hospital dying and i had just been to see him for the last time in the hospital, he had this awful breathing mask on his face and the sight was unreal to me, well that night i woke up with my heart racing and i turned over in bed came face to face with what i swear was my grandfather sat on the floor by my bed wearing that breathing mask and i couldnt look away i was terrified but i knew if i looked away he would vanish, i finally blinked and he was gone seconds later i hear my mother take a phone call in the kitchen below my bedroom and i hear her wail- i knew my grandfather had just died.

Hi Stephanie. I've watched almost all your videos, and oh man, you are absolutely phenomenal, thank you for doing this difficult thing that you do. As a spiritual person who also loves true crime, I've wondered how deeply the 'energy' of a case permeates into your life when you read about it. Obviously having a strong emotional connection to the victims would increase it. I've experienced some spooky things myself after talking with my husband about a suicide case. That moment in your video absolutely confirmed to me that by talking about and remembering these people, one forms a connection. Thank you for remembering all of these people that have passed. It is a great gift to the departed.

I have been binge watching your channel since I found it but this particular video had me so upset. I'd heard stories of the Tan children before but none were told with the compassion of yours. I hardly ever get emotional but the way you sympathized with the Tan parents, honored the children and your choice of music all came together and weighed heavy on my soul. I hope one day there is justice for those poor babies.

I have a couple of seggestions for videos. Both happened in my hometown. The first one is Andy Puglisi. He was 10 and disappeared from the public pool in 1976. Two people have been suspected of having taken part in it. Ottis Tool, and then serial rapist Wayne Chapman. Most people think it was Chapman. Growing up after leaving open gym at night, the teachers would make us huddle up, tell us his story and how they didn’t want us to become a warning story. They would tell us to go straight home and not talk to anyone we saw. Our school was right next door to the pool. The next one is 16 year old Lee-Manuel Viloria Paulino. He was found decapitated by the river behind the boys and girls club in November 2017. The main suspect is his “friend” Mathew Borges. No motive for the killing has been given, but people have speculated that Lee told Mathew he had romantic feelings for him and tried making a move and he lost it. Other people think it was a gang initiation. They don’t think Mathew did it on his own. Another strange thing is that Lee’s father was also decapitated a couple of months back in Puerto Rico. Some people believe there’s a connection there. Borges is currently in custody awaiting his trial. Sorry for the novel. Just wanted to give you a little information on them.

This is so heartbreaking and unnecessary. I too was a kid left alone in the mornings and after school. And my mother's rule was DON'T OPEN THE DOOR TO ANYONE. Not my friend, her friends, grandma, NO ONE. If only this idea had occurred to these parents...but society is so indoctrinated to only fear strangers. Most of the time, it's the people we know smh. I'm so happy they were blessed to have another one 🙏😇
