The country is turning to the extreme right wing political party (11 millions voters for the RN, the extreme right wing party, they were number 1 in the number of votes). Things are changing fast. People are staring at me in the streets. I had a racist attack a year ago (white man). No one helped me. I’m planning to leave. Again, do not come. France is not a place for people like us anymore.

@@MRC5981yes, I’m taking care of myself. We need to take care of ourselves first and then help if we can. I know that non French persons have this very glamorous idea of France but I’m speaking facts and I’m sharing with you what I’m doing for myself. I do not recognize my country. So much racism that is seen as normal now. There were just 7 members of RN in 2022 in the Assemblée Nationale (Parliament) and now, after the vote this month, they are around 150 (out of 577 members). The RN candidate always comes at the second position when we elect the next President. It’s just a matter of years before they are in power. And our president Macron is opening the door wide open for them, because people are angry at him: he does things as he wants, forcing his laws without the Assembly approval and without taking into account the opinion of the French people. People are mad and vote now for the RN. I won’t stay in Europe. It’s over. I’ve been to Bali and people were non judgemental there and very nice. It’s either South East Asia or South America for me.

I"ve been bopping around since 1992. I have lived in the US, Canada, Europe, and the Caribbean. I've been in Mexico for the last 3 years and so far I am very comfortable and I feel like a human being. I will stay here unless things change suddenly. Hi, To anyone asking for cost of residency in MX..my husband and I just renewed ours last week for 3 more years for $4000 peso per person (for facilitators cost) and $10,224 pesos per person (Immigration office cost) so about $750 USD per person at today's exchange rate of 18.99%. I would recommend a facilitator if you don't speak spanish, the INM office workers spoke very little english. Plus if any issues arise you can count on your facilitator to figure it out. We are moving when our home is finished in Chelem, which is located in the beach area about 30 min from Merida. I agree the US is getting scary, we live in FL and it's not like it was 20 yrs ago when we moved here, very divided thanks to DJT. I have our voter cards and will definitely still vote from MX! I am excited that MX now has a woman president and hopefully USA will soon!! Go KH!🎉

My mom just moved back home to Brazil. I have never lived there but I am seriously considering getting a dual citizenship and probably moving over. I don’t speak the language very well but understand it better. I also want my young adult kids to go also. I spoke to them and they are leaning toward it. I am not sure what I would do for work. I have 2 degrees but I’m not sure that even matters. All I know is I’m too old to be living in fear of foolishness because I have brown skin!! I’m so sick of it. Hey people! Stepanie I started following you and Black Women Abroad and am so happy that I did. As a Black woman born in Canada to Caribbean-born parents, I have lived in the USA, Africa and the Caribbean. I read that some people are moving to Canada and I would say, read up about the provinces before you come here! I was born in Montreal and while the city is "okay" the province is s**t for Black folx. Anti-blackness is deeply rooted and pervasive in our world and you need to be in spaces that fit your needs as best as possible and that feels safe to you. As I get older, I need to see Black and other people of colour and to be on land that is Indigenous to the people that are around me.

I do not know where all the minutes go when I am getting ready to go somewhere. It’s become a real struggle. I end up rushing, running late, having to repeatedly apologize and taking forever to get settled once I’ve reached my destination. I have acquired fees due to arriving more than 15 minutes late to appointments and having to reschedule. I hate it. I know it comes across as disrespectful which mortifies me. I eventually realized I was not taking into account how much arthritis in both my knees was LITERALLY slowing me down. I needed to allow for more time to get ready and out the door. I had been living in denial, not wanting to acknowledge that I was aging and my body was changing. I’ve been working on living mindfully, aging gracefully, and making my calendar work with and for me as much as possible. 🦋

Just remember Arthritis is not a old lady issue, I have younger friend that are currently suffering with this demon and there are more children everyday being diagnosed. I agree with Stephanie 100% about bidets and wondered the same thing. Do I have a 💩then slide over to the bidet? 🤷🏽‍♀I moved into a brand new apartment in the country I moved to and the bidet is separate from the toilets and I have never used it. I love the all-in-one and used it daily in the Airbnb I stayed in but I hate them being separate. I live in a country in Europe, and my friend, who is a very dark-skinned black male, was pulled over by the police one night for speeding. The police could tell he was drunk because he was "sloppy drunk" as they say. He asked him to take a breathalyzer and he failed miserably. The cop did not arrest him, instead, he gave him a bottle of water and told him to drink it and wait a few minutes. The cop stayed there talking with him for 30 minutes then told him to drive home safely.

That guy was lucky 😊 in uk my ex husband was taken to jail for a night being drank and withdrawn his licence for a year, went on a course, now can't travel to U S for 10 years. The story: he went to visit a friend got drunk decided to go home, approached his car sat inside and the police asked him what s up, asked him to drive ( set a trap ) which he did start 😊 and got arrested .

My husband and I just got back from Merida last week renewing our residency for 3 more years the cost was $748 USD per person (using todays exchange rate of 18.99%) that's for paying the facilitator and the immigration office fees. Worth every penny! The office worker's spoke very little English...and we speak very little Spanish 😅. The process was easy and we were in the office about 3 hours. Everyone we met was extremely friendly and helpful from restaurants, hotel's and uber drivers! Which was refreshing from the US where everyone's in a hurry. We live in FL for the past 20 yrs and its changed completely thanks to DJT the whole US has changed and is divided becauseif him. I'm excited that Mexico now has a woman president and I am hoping that the US will have one soon too! Go Kamala!🎉 p.s. you can have dusl citizenship in MX but we just want residency

Stephanie, went back to watch the full episode- feel drawn to tell you. Re: the time moving fast as we get older, it is a real phenomena. BUT if you want to mitigate it, start practicing mindfulness meditation! It basically has the EFFECT of slowing down our perception of time. You know I teach meditation and it's my experience and my students too. Why? I think it has to do with making us more present to every moment and being IN EACH moment, which is what that type of meditation trains us in. Funny you used a phrase that we often us, you said you didn't feel dropped on (or that you were on the surface?) well the feeling of being more dropped in develops. Thus you'll find your days feels more spacious and you feel less RUSHED. It is a very pleasant experience.

Moved from WHITE SUBURBS, upper middle income, to North County area where predominantly Black and lower middle income. Yet the gas prices are 40+ cents higher and we have one zip code that covers a larger demographic while the White area, ĺ moved from, zip code is divided into 6 different ones. Thus crime rate is deemed higher in North County not Wentzville Mo.

@@javonnamaerhys - I went to South Korea in 2019 and stayed at the Conrad which had the best bidet - heated seat, adjustable water temperature, music, 3 streams… When I got back to the States, I got a Tushy bidet. Definitely low rate compared to the South Korea experience but just a few months later the pandemic started and my bidet was installed. So no mad dashes for toilet paper for me.

@@joohoneybee3397 I LOVE IT! Learning the language is difficult lol I take classes. It's a tonal language so saying something in one tone can mean a different thing in another tone. Thai people are extremely gracious and helpful to help you learn and speak the language. English is widely spoken in the city I live in. You can really live here your whole life and never learn the language. I just choose to.

I worked in Mexico City for 6 months once. The nicest people are the ones who worked in restaurants and hotels. They were very nice. The Mexicans that live in South Texas are the most racist folks I have ever met! The food is outstanding in Mexico City. I would consider living there, but I am leaning towards Panama or Costa Rica.

Many people find Panama more affordable, but I'm not sure. Panama City isn't that affordable but depends on how you live. Panama is more conservative than CR or Mexico. If you live in Panama City there is a great diversity of people, but if you go inland you'll feel it. So, if you are woke or on that spectrum go to Mexico or CR. Panama has strong gender role identification, I've been here 3 years so I'm speaking from experience.

Yes there is racial prejudice in Mexico. Do not be concerned. You will not notice because it is not structural racism like in the United States of America. It is for sure not deadly like in the US. Mexican people culturally are very warm and welcoming. You will feel for sure freer and the sense of oppression will be noticeable. For sure. Living in the USA is living in hell. A temporary visa in Mexico is up to two years, according to the Mexican government website.

@@deniseturnipseed2777 - The visa that i have in my wallet that I received from the consulate in Las Vegas and finalized at the Canje office in Ensenada is for one year. There are only one year temporary residency visas. After 4 years of having a temporary residency visa (reapplying each year) are eligible to apply for a permanent residency. No US based Mexican consulate offers 2 year residency visas and they all have different income and savings requirements. There is a special permanent residency visa folks can apply for if they entered Mexico and had their US or Canadian passports stamped during a certain period of time that allows the bypassing of income requirements. If anyone is thinking about moving to Mexico, I highly recommend purchasing the Mexico Relocation guide. It was helpful in regards to every step of the process. They also have information on car registration, driver’s licensees, bringing pets into the country, health insurance, Mexican customs, holidays, banking, investing, renting or buying property, banking, etc. I did everything myself but they also have a list of facilitators in Mexico who can help you the visa processI qualified under income requirements. I tried to get my visa in Los Angeles but was denied. Even though on their website, it states you can qualify for temporary residency if you make a certain income OR have a certain amount savings it wasn’t true. I more than qualified for the income but not the savings and was denied an appointment. When I pointed out that their website said income OR savings they scoffed at that. I ended up going to Vegas. There staff was incredibly helpful in the lead up to my appointment and the day of. Finishing up the process in Ensenada took two appointments and additional paperwork but was fairly simple and pretty standard. The folks at the Canje office took their to explain everything. Bottom line, the consulate websites say one thing but you have to call or email and get on Facebook groups on moving to Mexico to get the real tea. McAllen, TX Consulate had the lowest income requirements but as August 1 will only start accepting applications from Texas residents. I’ve heard that people have had good experiences with the New Orleans as well. But consulates in NYC and LA are notoriously difficult to navigate.

I will miss the bidet. I would prefer to use toilet paper and wipes when I excrete, if that is its purpose. I really don't know.

I disagree with you on Japan. My daughter lived in the Okayama prefecture and I visited often. For months at a time. I was amazed at our level of acceptance. Every time I was returning to the U.S., the mothers would always reassure me that my daughter was in good hands. They included her in everything

On that hair topic. Until I went natural after having perms since I was a kid. I have never gotten more compliments from men in my life on my hair. One guy followed me around trying to be inconspicuous and the. Got the nerve to say just that. Your hair is beautiful. It made my entire year! I am still getting used to but loving all of it.
