Nathan Myhrvold is one of my idols. A true modern Polymath and a genious. I love his work at Intellectual Ventures as founder and CEO, too bad it's not wider known. They have a youtube channel with a few houndred to a thousand views, but the quality of many of them, and the work they do, is comparable to TED, except it's all from one lab/company. One of the most inspiring things i've found is their anti-musquito laser fence system using parts of BluRay players and printers.

This guy is very interesting indeed. I feel like I found a kindred spirit. Someone that embraces change and has a zeal for variety in life. He also looks into camera like he is talking directly to you - massive engagement. Best "Big Think" video ever!!! :)

But what I meant to say (but didn't hit shift+enter to do so) was that I feel you, sincerely. When I was a kid I was told I could be anything, but borne into poverty. I worked my way up and through college, and now I'm seriously talented but the American workplace doesn't typically reward talent and competence.

Wow, haters gonna hate. I remember reading about Nathan Mhyrvold in Scientific American back in the day. I don't engage in hero worship, but I did think he led an interesting life, and that he had made some worthwhile contributions to the science and computer technology worlds.

I have experience myself what a re-start, a change of direction, doing something completely different can do for your life. I highly recommend it. And if you think now that you're too young for something like that? College is the first total change that you can affect. Or switch from one shitty job to another. Or to a better one. Or even a shittier one. Move state. Heck, move country. Mix it up. Routine is going to kill the joy in everything: Relationships, jobs, life. Don't let that happen.

P1: To me evolution is learning to get on better with your environment, not be fitter than the environment. It is adapting to be part of the new environment rather than staying in the old environment. You could possible be fitter than the environment if you shaped that environment and in effect controlled it some how but most of the time it's better to work with not against the new environment.

I hate the anti intellectualism inherent in telling people "you're not a scientist, you don't work in a lab, so you are a charlatan and should shut your mouth.' I know religious people who have tried to shut up atheists by flexing their biology credentials at the university. The truth is science is a method of discovery, therefore we all are scientists (by definition not profession) just as we are all philosophers (by definition not profession) so quit it with the semantics please.

P3: Which is fine unless they evolve to far because this would be the death of them because they would consume more than was possible to consume then die out because they was not enough for them to consume meaning there diet would be unsustainable, they have to work with the environment if they want to survive and stop trying to beat it.

I have a successful professional career, too. But I have other interests. I really, really, love asses. I've invested quite a bit of money into my studies of asses. In fact, I am certainly an ass philanthropist and scientist.

with the technology we have we have access to all of human knowledge that resource is checked all that is left is the money. If you have access to all of human knowledge which you clearly do and have access to opportunity than you can thrive and get rich not many people use the internet for knowledge most people would rather watch dumb mindless crap so you have little to no competition.

I don't really find this applicable to myself (I am very lucky & fairly successful) or the average person. This dude is so exceptionally successful in his career(s) that I find a comparison to other people is just totally useless. Maybe he forgets just how much chance/luck is involved in success and forgets the obstacles people face. Spoiled brat, I might say.
