This scared the hell out of me when I was a child back then. Generally speaking, vampires aren't usually very scary, except in this mini-series. Never before or since have vampires been so creepy. The remake of Salem's Lot that came on years later was awful and the vampires were laughable. I know this mini-series deviates from the novel, but I don't care because it really is a good movie with great performances and great atmosphere.

i actually like the remake.
@jamiebraswell55204 жыл бұрын
@@kingcaesar3693 I was extremely let down with the remake. I watched it when it originally aired on TNT, though I have never revisited it. My biggest gripe with it was the vampires themselves. They just weren't scary and fell victim to what most all other on screen vampires fall victim too...goofy makeup and special effects. Their super speed power came across more like an Xmen mutant power than a vampire. It is all about the way it is put to screen, not showing too much, and surrounding the vampire with a good atmosphere that adds to the creepiness.
@jamiebraswell55204 жыл бұрын
@@funkyweapon1981 of course...they are far more ghoulish in folklore and a far cry from these hip cool vampires that every teenager fancies themselves as being these days. At least the old Salem's Lot doesn't glamorize being a vampire.

I would argue a lot of miniseries are being made today. How so? Well, in my opinion a lot of streaming show "seasons" are structured more like miniseries - a single story chopped in multiple parts - than an actual episodic tv show, where each episode is a single story with a beginning/middle/end, even if there is a ongoin storyline from episode to episode.

I recall that when I read the novel, it was 'SALEM'S LOT, not "Salem's Lot," because it was short for "Jerusalem's Lot". Alyssa Black Right? Just turned my son on to the Hitcher! Friend of mine actually stayed in the same hotel in Australia years ago. He was there shooting The Blood of Heroes.

4:30= It's totally canon in my head now that Walt Disney got his start as Barlowe's day-guardian half-vampire apprentice! It explains so much about Disney! They should have included that really creepy part in the book where Straker keeps threatening to castrate young Mark, saying he's going to make him a "Satanic choirboy". Or the line "I have made sacrifice for his favor, with my left hand I bring it!" I love Stephen King's quotation of Wallace Steven's poem"The Emperor of Ice Cream" in Salem's Lot-one of the greatest and most subtle poems ever written about death.

Lloyd looks terribly handsome in his pic superimposed on the 911 Lone Star image. I love Lloyd!😻💞 This was a great review of Salem's Lot. I now realize I've most likely only seen the theatrical cut since I only saw it on a rented VHS from a local video store at some point in the 1990's. Gonna have to find the original! I did enjoy the version I saw, but it's been quite awhile - why not refresh my memory and see the parts I missed the first time around? Thanks for making such an entertaining video! This made my day.🖤

This is what scared the crap out of me as a kid. The scene with the kid hovering outside, scratching on the window....dude. straight traumatized my 7 year old self.

This was the first horror movie my parents ever let me watch because they wanted to watch it too. It scared the shit out of me when I was 9, and I still feel that reaction when I see the grave-digging scene or the bedroom window scene. The next weekend I borrowed the book from the library and read it in like 4 days, and my lifelong love of everything Stephen King was born, even the "bad" stuff. I was banned from watching most horror "trash" but my parents considered reading to be high-culture and educational, so they didn't look twice at anything I borrowed from the library. They even bragged about what "thick" books their 9 year old son was reading. I had finished reading all of King's books (at that time) before I turned 11 and my parents would finally let me watch "Halloween" at my friend's house on VHS. They had no idea that I had already read much, much worse and that Halloween was kind of a tame experience, still scary, but not nearly as graphic as some of the shit I had read.

Controlling parents much, lol. How is your relationship with them these days?
@MandleRoss4 жыл бұрын
@@thedys70 I don't know if parents not allowing their kid to watch horror movies until they are 11 is exactly "controlling". Pretty lenient I'd say.
@thedys704 жыл бұрын
@@MandleRoss Actually, I can see both sides of the debate. I was more inclined to nag the folks to let me watch whatever the other kids at school [1980s] told me was scary. Been a horror movie tragic ever since, and enjoyed many of the King adaptions.
