I lifted at a notorious powerlifting gym when I was a teen in the '90s. Anytime WWF was in town those huge dinosaurs would show up. The back room with the serious weights and locker rooms got closed off. Artifacts were sometimes left behind.

Someone posted on Reddit a few years back - images of ads from early 1940s bodybuilding magazines selling methyl testosterone tablets. Methyl test, test suspension, and test propionate (buccal tabs and injectable) were all READILY available to athletes by 1937 or so. It's a total myth that the steroid era starts in the mid 1950s.
