I hate when people say Roy Jones had a weak chin. Collins can say all he wants, Jones beat far superior boxers than him and it took 49(there abouts) fights before anyone finally caught him clean on the chin, and that was only after he had drained 2 full weight classes to fight. Roy Jones is one of the greatest boxers to have ever lived, period. He would have destroyed Collins and it saddens me that Roy continues to fight as its a utter shame.

Jones had every opportunity to fight Collins, yet was happy enough to continue to take low quality opponents for the easy money. Jones, and Jones fans, can make any claims that they would like, but the fact remains, Roy Jones Jr. refused to fight Steve Collins.

@@jamescaleb9676 I can only compare Collins V Jones to a fight that actually happened....Mayweather V Hatton. I'm sure that Hatton fans (of which I am one, cos I like the guy) would have said, if the fight never happened that Mayweather ducked Hatton. Hatton fought and beat decent, even great opponents (Tzsyu) but got horribly outclassed by Mayweather. Collins had a great chin, slowish feet and no massive punch. He was a swarmer. That style woulda just never worked against Jones.

Steve Collins was a fine champion, he worked for all of his success and came up through the ranks the hard way. Im proud to be from the same country as him. Roy Jones, in his prime was maybe the best boxer ever. Steve would have been embarrassed by him so Im glad it never happened. Jones embarrassed two all time greats in Hopkins and Toney, yes Hopkins beat Jones in the rematch years after Jones prime but we are talking primes here and Jones was incredible.

Hi Michael , if you think Jones would have embarrassed Collins at SMW between 95-97 , I don't think you fully understand or know why they never fought . When Jones beat Hopkins in 93 for the Vacant IBF MW Strap , BHop was a good 4-6 years short of his Prime , he was a late developer , a bit like Lewis , and was barely a Top 10 if even and definitely not Top 5 as other MW Champions like John and Julian Jackson , Reg Johnson and Gerald Mc Clellan , all ranked ahead of him. The James Toney he beat for his IBF SMW Strap in late 94 , was Prime as regards age , where his Career was at being Unbeaten etc but he was not Prime as regards to conditioning , nowhere near , he was in a Hospital bed just 24 hours before the fight on IVs blood drips , it a testament to his strength of will and character to have survived the fight and considering Toney gave him the opportunity , the least Jones could do was return him , which he never would . Jones would have 6 more fights at SMW V no hopers , avoiding WBA Strap Frankie Liles , WBCs Nigel Benn and WBOs Steve Collins , whose Resume was by far , the best of any other SMW 95-97 , irregardless of what people think of his 4 victories over Benn and Eubank , it was way better form than the rest . Collins called Jones out after everyone of his Victories here and even traveled over to the US , managed by Frank Warren , Jones was made really big offers in the US or UK but he kept putting obstacles in the way and overpricing himself , he also done this with Liles , who also wanted to fight him but Jones demanded 85% of the Purse , so he told him to get lost .Jones fought a Guy called Eric Lucas at SMW mid 90s , Lucas was a 100/1 outsider , Jones went playing Basketball that afternoon , to " Prove a Point " in his words , these very words came back to haunt him , he lost many Genuine US Boxing fans that day because he disrespected Lucas and most importantly , Boxing . As a LHW Champion , his Reign here was a joke , he only became WBA , WBC and IBF Champion after they were stolen from Gracianno Rocchigiani , WBC , 98 and the Best LHW of the 90s , Darius Michalczewski who had his WBA , IBF and Lineal Titles , which he added to his WBO Title after he beat Virgil Hill in 97 . Both Rocchigiani and Michalczewski weren't even allowed to defend their Titles , allowing Jones to be handed the WBC Title for Free , then beat Lou Delvalle for the WBA and an old , way past his best , Reg Johnson for the IBF Title . Collins , Michalczewski and Rocchigiani were never Ko'ed in 140 Pro fights between them and were only stopped twice , Rocchigiani and Michalczewski , 1 time each at the end of their Careers and these Guys fought like dogs in the Ring , super fit , tough , strong , endurable with rock solid chins , Collins especially , and would have taken Jones the distance , brought him to War , dragged him to the Trenches , or into deeper water shall we say , and these Guys did not lack Heart , its very fair to ask if Jones could have matched these Guys here . In this very clip there's only 1 Guy embarrassing himself and that's Jones , waving his finger like a Child saying how he can beat everyone , and holding the WBC and WBA Titles which didn't even belong to him then . Sorry for the rant , all the best , take care .

@@michealbreathnach2928 Thanks for that Michael but honestly , when you say , look at the calibre They faced and how they fared out , I take it you mean Mc Callum and Reg Johnson , who both lost to Jones but beat Collins , for a start , Mike was The very best MW by a distance when he outpointed Collins in early 90 in Boston, in a tough fight , Mike was probably just past his best having turned 33 late 89 but it was only Collins 17th fight and was a late replacement with just 4-5 weeks to prepare as No 1 Contender , M Watson had broke his nose in training , Mike was almost 40 fighting Jones at LHW in 96 , had no Title has he'd lost it to Tiozzo, another guy Jones avoided and as for Reggie , once again , he beat Collins as a 32 year old also at MW in a very close fight in 92 , he was 39 years old fighting Jones in 99 at LHW and was really poor , just remember , he beat Guthrie for his IBF Title and Delvalle, another victim of Jones for the WBA Strap , had become Champion having beaten the Mighty Edy Smulder, these Titles were stolen from The Best LHW of the 90s , Dariusz Michalczewski . You say about Jones being this and that but if he brought the same performance like his first fight with Griffin and only fight with Delvalle, where he got floored , against DM between 96-98 , he gets beaten and maybe even KO'ed . I honestly can't see how any Boxing fan worth his salt cannot question just why , was Jones allowed to steal the late Gracianno Rocchigiani's Title from him and even worse , why was he allowed to not fight him ? And just why was DM stripped of the WBA and IBF Titles within a month of beating Hill in 97 ? It stinks , the whole lot of it , an absolute joke . I speak regularly , with other Boxing fans who are from the US and even they can see this , they love the Sport of Boxing but hate what he done and freely admit that he ducked many guys with Collins being the most blatant . Just look at the numbers attending Katie Taylor last week and also realise that she will fill Croker with anything from 70-90K fans , and the numbers that followed Mc Gregor , what I mean is that Jones should have fought Collins in around 95-97 , at SMW , either here in Ireland , the UK or anywhere along the Eastern Coast of the US , that's the fight the Boxing public, Worldwide, wanted to see , it would have attracted a crowd of anything between 20-50K , easily , and regardless of what you think , was a much better option than the others he was fighting at SMW , and much closer but no , Jones was too busy fighting Griffin for a 2nd time in a venue in Connecticut, a Bingo Hall which held less than 5K , says it all really . All the best Michael , take care 🥊🥊

@@pauljackbyrne9439 Misha Ban has a very good point , Jones did handpick lots of opponents and the 2 Straps he's wearing here , WBC and WBA LHW , were paper Straps that were actually owned by Gracianno Rocchigiani , who was the real WBC Champion then having beaten Michael Nunn in March 97 , after it was vacated by Jones who said he was moving up to HW , only to change his mind and demanded the WBC to hand his Title back 3 Months later , June 88 . It was the 2nd time this cheating , disgusting WBC would give the Childish cheating Jones their LHW Strap for free , yes absolutely free . In November 86 , Jones fought Mike Mc Callum who was an overweight and slow 40 years old , it was Jones 1st fight at the Weight , at the end , he was Proclaimed to the World , " The New WBC LHW Champion " but this was wrong , Frenchman Fabrice Tiozzo was the " Actual Champion ". When the WBC and Jones , scandalously cheated and robbed Rocchigiani in 98 , it was the 2nd time Jones was handed the Title for nothing . As for the WBA Strap he was wearing , he won this from Lou Delvalle also in 98 but Delvalle was only Champion because he'd beaten Eddy Smulder for the Vacated WBA Strap because it was stolen from the Real , Legimitate LHW Champion , Darius Michalczewski , who'd beaten , fair and square in the Ring , Virgil Hill in 97 , meaning that he was the most decorated LHW Champion in the World , holding the WBO, WBA, IBF and Ring Magazine's Lineal Titles , only for the equally cheating IBF and WBA , strip him of these Titles . Tarver only got a shot at Jones because he shamed him into a Fight , Tarver called him a Myth and a Fraud , and proved it , and coming down from HW has nothing whatsoever to do with it. Their 2nd meeting was 5 Months after the 1st fight , and age has nothing to do with it either as they are the same age , the truth of it all is that Tarver was his best opponent since Toney in 94. Tarver only turned Pro in 98 at 28 years old but yet by 00 , just 2 years later , had climbed the LHW ladder quite rapidly and was No 1 Contender only for Jones to have him shunted back down the ladder to avoid him , this was before Tarver had lost to Harding , imagine Jones was genuinely scared of fighting Tarver then , a Raw Novice with just 2 years of fighting experience as a Professional.

@@TeacherDoug7 Tarver was good in that 2 year period as was Glen Johnson , another guy who smashed Jones too , the thing about these lads is that they were better than the Glen Kelly's and Ricky Frazer's of this World , these were the types of guys he was beating instead of facing off against WBC Champion , the late Graciano Rochigiani RIP and the True , Legitimate LHW King of the 90s , Dariusz Michalczewski who became the WBO , WBA , IBF and Lineal Titles holder after he inflicted the then King , Virgil Hill , only his second career defeat in a Unification Bout in 98 . The facts are that Jones fought a 39 years old part time Boxer , full time NYPD Officer called Ricky Frazer in early 99 , who'd only become a Professional 7 years previous , rather than face off V Rochigiani , a guy who Jones along with the cheats of the WBC , robbed his Title and didn't even have the guts to fight him for it in the US at that time . The reality is that Rocky and DM were the legitimate holders of all 4 Alphabets and Lineal Titles and they got cheated out of 3 of them , WBA , WBC and IBF , which Jones had managed to gain all 3 by beating just 2 lads , Lou DeValle , WBA and Reggie Johnson , IBF . In my opinion , Jones career stagnated especially from the mid 90s , his SMW days , up until his fights with Tarver and Johnson because the reality is , how could he improve his game by beating the likes of Ricky Frazer in 99 when he was just about the right side of 30 , then expect to beat an upcoming , hungry fighter like Tarver , who was far better than many on here will give him credit for . 🥊🥊

@@sugs1191 The best fighter out of all the MWs late 80s early 90s was Mike Mc Callum , who was Streets ahead of the rest , trust me mate , this Guy was the real deal. The best MW of the 3 Brits , who were all brilliant btw, was Michael Watson , he and Herol Bomber Graham are The Best British MWs to be never Crowned World Champions and I know why , because Watson was robbed in the first Eubank fight , and had him beat all ends up in the 2nd fight but for a brilliant but lucky and devastating upper cut by Eubank , it was like a Goal against the run of play , and a flukey one at that. Do your research , Watson , who had beaten Benn in 6rds mid 89, was due to face Mc Callum early 90 but broke his nose in training , he had 25-26 Fights as a paid Professional by then , Collins , who was operating in the US in Haglers Stable under the Petronelli Brothers Pat and Goody , was the USBA MW Champion then , had only 16 Fights as a Professional , was Holidaying in Ireland , took the Mc Callum Fight at 3 Weeks notice and ran him close , February 90 losing on PTS in a tough brawl , so close that the Great Mc Callum stated he would never fight him again , which he didn't , the Fight took place in Boston. Just 2 Months later , Mc Callum would dominate and utterly destroy Watson in London , April 90 stopping him in 11 Rds. Later in 90 , Benn would travel to the US, beat De Witt for his WBO Title in devastating fashion and defend against Barkley and beat him also in such fashion but come home to the UK and lose to Eubank in a Classic. So Eubank was the new WBO Champ, Mc Callum was still WBA Champ then , challenged Eubank to a Unification Bout but Eubank shat himself and refused. When Benn became WBC SMW Champion towards the end of 92 , Mc Callum , who was dethroned MW Champion , controversially by Toney this year , challenged Benn and he too shat himself. To compare Watson, Benn, Makings and who ever else you can think of that Eubank fought , to Mc Callum is an insult , he was a genius. The facts that Collins ran him close , at his peak or at least close , told me that he had every chance of beating both Eubank and Benn , given the chance , he had fought way better opponents than them early in their Careers.

Eubank was born 8th August 1966. Steve Collins 21st July 1964. First fight was on 18th March 1995, second fight was on 9th September 1995. Meaning Eubank was 29 in the first fight, and 30 in the second fight. Two years younger than Collins. Its just a little embarrassing how people try to make up this excuse and that excuse for the reason why Eubank lost, he couldn't handle Collins style that was it.

Look at the opponents Jones met in between the Toney, and Ruiz fights. There's a well over the hill Gerald McCellan, two fights with Montell Griffin, and a past prime Virgil Hill, Eric Harding. Those are the best fighters he met in that period. That is far from all time great competition, and when you get past those fighters it goes down significantly. Vinny Pazienza, who had no business as a challenger at 168. How good were guys like Richard Frazier, Richard Hall, Derrick Harmon, Julio Cesar Gonzalez, Otis Grant, David Telesco, Glen Kelly, Eric Lucus, Bryant Brannon, etc? Was it that hard to make a tough fight. Were any of those opponents that good? Maybe they were. Most of his opponents during that period were guys we don't know about.

@@jdig1984 Hi Jdig, the SMW Division in the Mid 90s was way stronger than the LHW Division Jones left, in terms of Genuine Quality Opponents. Jones got a free ride at LHW, he only became Undisputed after winning Titles that were stolen, blatantly and shockingly, and from Michalczewski and Rocchegianni, and never even fought them, for me to be Undisputed, you beat Your Fellow Strap Holders in the Ring, which he never did. When you consider this, Jones was declared LHW Champion after his very first fight V Mc Callum in late 96, Mc Callum wasn't even Champion then, he'd lost his Title to Tiozzo, so straight away, Jones was given a Free Title, which wasn't his, and against Mc Callum, who was 40, fat, slow and way past his best. If only he stayed at SMW, and fought V Collins, Benn, Eubank, Liles etc, and there was also some cracking but less heard of European Guys like Nardiello, Galvano, Wharton and others. What irks me most is how Jones gets a free ride for not fighting Fellow Strap Holders and priced himself out of fights with Liles and Collins. I'd have loved to see him fight Liles, whose style was all wrong for him, he was a tall and very classy and skilled Southpaw who beat him in the Amateurs, Jones killed this deal by demanding 85% of the Purse. I think Benn and Collins would have given him lots of problems, especially Collins, who would have taken him the distance, thanks for your comments and Questions, you know your Boxing, take care, all the best.

As regards Benn , they are both the same age and I fully understand that he wasn't the same Guy that beat Mc Clellan a year earlier , but wow could he still bang , and bang he did on Collins but he could take his best shots and let's be honest here , he bullied Benn to bits , he was a different level to what Eubank and Benn were used to fighting . I totally understand why people don't like Collins , yes he wasn't flash , exciting or get the Juices flowing like Benn did but he was way better than most people give him credit for , and yes Jones ducked him , like many others.

Roy in his prime had a great chin and too fast to catch. Collins wanted to beat Roy back then, he would have to catch him. A young Roy was to fast to catch.

Alex198395 We will never know. Roy looked great fighting the likes of Derrik Harmon, Richard Hall, Glen Kelly....none of who were anywhere near as good as Collins.

bfbifcbBobucbu Hopkins, Toney, Virgil Hill, Montell Griffin, Tarver, That is more impressive than just Eubanks and Benn

Clearly you dont watch much boxing or you are just biased towards american fighters, Eubank and Benn could quite possibly be the top two super middle weights in history both beat Toney Hill and Griffin.

If you wanted to fight Jones, you should have come to America and beat Toney Hopkins but no you just wanted to fight. Why would Jones single Collins out. Would have been a third round KO for Jones.

but you dont hear people being deluded about collins over here trying to make him out to be some sort of superhuman like ye do with roy jones jr, if collins was so far below him why was jones so afraid to fight him ? Wasnt jones caught for roids aswell lol ? At the end of the day you can talk as much shit as you like collins was ready to back up what he was saying jones avoided him! even when collins followed him around the ring !

James Toney is embarrassing himself at this stage aswell, yeah good in his day but he's talking shite all the time now. Either Klitschko would toy with him, he only wants to fight them for the money, he knows full well he'd get the head knocked off him and if he somehow lasted the 12 he'd end up in hospital like Shannon Briggs.

Why do people hate on Sreve Collins so much? I gather it is because he is an Irishman and people do not like to see Irish people to well. Roy Jones Jr ducked him ... it would of been a great payday for both fighters considering their records and achievements. Then you have the same people dissing Collins for not covering Joe Calzaghe !!!!
