One of the BEST lines I’ve heard out of Luke was his take on todays music. He said something along the lines of, “if you took away the pro tools, the backing tracks, and the dancers most of them would sound like they were in their first night in prison.” Hahaha.

You assume it was jealousy? I think Prince was talented enough on over 30 something instruments not to be jealous of any other musician! This was often a pattern with him where he was very introverted, but once he got to know you and trusted you, he was always said to be a great person and helped so many other musicians. There is countless stories out there if you’re interested in knowing.

@@CJ-vh2hf Prince was certainly an astonishing musician. However, he was lacking in some human qualities and was pretty awful to a lot of people (Peggy McCreary and Susan Rogers, to name a couple). I'd bet he was jealous of Steve's character, humour and popularity.

It is hard to imagine that there is a musician out there who has more experience in that "job" than Steve Lukather. besides of all his stories, I admire Steve as a guitar player and musician. I guess, most of all guys who play guitar simply love his guitar playing. isn't it so? you can learn from Luke simply by listening to his stuff. because he is so accurate and clean and on spot and so amazing. also his different sounds. I mean even Eddie said he is the greatest player, playing in the best band.

So a couple of interesting stories to add onto these. I grew up in the Minneapolis area and while “Purple Rain” was filming my sister was working at a local Holiday Inn where some of the cast and crew from the movie were staying. Prince would come by occasionally and roar up and down the hallways of the hotel on the purple motorcycle that Luke mentioned in his story. Suffice to say Holiday Inn management was not impressed……😂 The second involves the Prince bodyguard that Luke mentioned. This guy would occasionally come into the Sears store where I worked as a college kid and every time he did it was quite the scene! As Luke described, the guy was HUGE and had this mane of very distinctive white hair. Whenever he came into the store, everybody would literally stop what they were doing and stare, for one because of his huge size and also because he carried himself in such a way that it was almost as if the circus was coming to town! From what I remember, he was always accompanied by an entourage that I assumed was his family - a wife and two teenaged daughters. Now all three of these girls were attractive and equally distinctive in appearance as their father, and I was always very careful not to get caught checking out his daughters lest he take it the wrong way…….😂 The one thing always struck me about this guy was that although he was incredibly flamboyant and very intimidating in appearance, when you would check him out at the till he actually was very quiet and soft spoken - a very strange dichotomy between personality and appearance!

I wish Prince had been a normal cat with Lukather. Prince had no idea the incredible humor Luke was capable of. Prince, being funny himself, would've really connected with him. Prince did himself and his legacy a disservice by being so distant and difficult and strange in social settings. I've been into Prince and ALL his music since 1981. I wish Luke had gone into the story at the end where he begins, "He also screwed...". I wanna hear all the TRUTH, even the dirt. LOL

From what Ive heard around LA from guys who were around back then runners fetched 2 things... 'coke' and 'girls.' And a lot of the time the girls were escorts. One guy told me a story about a Billy Idol tracking session at LAFX and that they were banging escorts over the mixing desk. I was like 'Well, that is the neighborhood where they film tons of porn.' (all the houses over there have boarded up windows to keep people from being able to see inside). And he was like 'Dude, it was happening at Capitol too.' Lol. I still find that hard to believe. Course, that was way before my time so maybe it did at 2 in the morning when the place is cleared out. Cap. just isn't a party studio.

Damn! this escalate fast! I din't hear a single thing that made Prince an asshole in here, in fact it's quite the opposite. I bet you David Bowie could walk dressed as an alien at 10 am and this guy would not call him "freaky", I pretty sure this guy also had a problem with Prince smell.

@@astuffedteddy but did Prince was a jerk talking about Sly Stone publicly? What Luke is doing here it's showing his resentment at Prince's success (or is it personal?), I mean making fun at Prince clothes to put him down, while saying that (the extremely extravagant) Elton Jhon was beautiful, come on!

So much PRINCE not acknowledging him in his own self-centered way he used the time to emotional empower himself with his sarcastic sacrificing of so-called unflattering humor. Equally as well Nothing calls for labeling PRINCE a asshole regarding his own personal behavioral traits. RESPECTFUL all though out my teenage years and 20 I was very shy and self-centered female would talk behind my back and say things like "I think I'm too much" sought of like I think "I'm better than ever one else" but equally as important I wanted to be accepted with the typical IGNORANCE that *(LUKE and STICKY BOB) displayed. People sometimes say that liked you but have a funny way of showing it🤔LOVE 2 HATE 🤘🏻👹

Wouldn't go that far. I don't think they're comparable. Steve has his thing. Prince has his. They're both very talented. The only odd thing about Prince for me was the amount of unusable things he committed to finishing. Maybe thats a good thing and I just don't see it. But he committed to finishing a lot stuff that just wasn't very good. Course, the stuff that was very good was really great.
