Steve Maxwell I've currently got a a 2006 5.4 F150 4x4 and a highly modified 2002 Mustang GT, while my wife has a 2001 5.4 Expedition and a 1985 Mustang LX. I'm 37 and have been driving a long list of Fords since I was 16. It's awesome to hear the story of a hard working family man who is also a Ford fan. Interesting story! I have owned my 1994 since new.. 268,000 miles later she is still going strong. Body got petty rusty due to Iowa road salt in the winter, so a couple years ago I fixed her all up. Best darn truck I could have ever asked for and she has never let me down.

Recently my beautiful wife of two years got into a small accident while driving my Silverado of 10 years. Gaijin Boogie Amen Brother I have a 96 Ford F150 with 5.0L Windsor V8 with 203,393 miles on it and it's still going strong. The only thing I replaced on my truck was the starter but other than that mostly was just simple maintenance and cleaned out the transmission fluid just to get rid of the shuttering it was making and it hasn't had a problem ever since. Folks call me a Redneck or a HillBilly but my 96 F150 will outlast anything you see on the road today and plus my truck looks better than anything you see on the road today as well.

Hi Michael. Thanks for watching. The trick for keeping any vehicle rust free is annual oil spray. I use with Krown or Rust Check (both work just as well). For most of my years owning vehicles I've had them sprayed, but now I have the equipment to spray on my own. If you spray every year, rust is simply a non-issue, even in cold, snowy, salty Canada. Where there is oil there cannot be rust. I wish I had learned this earlier on with my vehicles. It really does make a difference!

Hi Chip! Yes, that's the complete truth in a nutshell. I call the Krown and Rust Check product "oil", but it's not quite like oil. It's slippery and it certainly creeps into nooks and crannies on its own in time, but it also washes off the outside of vehicles more easily than oil. Regardless of what it is, I'm puzzled why more people don't do that annual spray and make rust a non-issue. Take care and thanks for watching! Steve

Thanks! I'll have to check that out. I've been using used oil and tranny fluid on mine. I think that folks either don't know or don't care enough to do it. It's sad watching them slowly rot away from the road salt.

Steve - I know this video is 4 years old, but I had to comment. This was inspirational, and I enjoyed watching it. I have my own truck story...two of them, but the nearest and dearest to my heart is my grandpa's 1993 Chevrolet Silverado. I knew it from the day it was new, and now I have the privilege of owning and caring for it. I have a nice car too, as well as another truck I use for work on our own cattle farm, but my grandpa's truck is what I choose to drive almost daily to work, Sunday to church, and wherever I need to go. great story, I hope I can have the same thing with my 1978 F150 Ranger XLT supercab. I bought it when I was a week from turning 16 in 2015 for $600 with only 86,000miles on it it was in rough shape but I'm in the middle of restoring it. It was my first vehicle and I love it. (for those wondering it had a 351M 2 barrel carb (now a 4 barrel with new cam, aftermarket timing chain, and long block crate motor still a 351M) a C6 transmission and its 2 wheel drive). It's my pride and joy.

About 5 months ago I bought my own red 1990 F-150, although mine is 2WD. It's a wonderful truck, I bought it from an old man who took good care of it for nearly 15 years. I used it to help my grandparents pick up firewood in the winter, and it was really great to have when I moved out to west Texas to go to Texas Tech. Such a great video

That is a great story and a nice looking truck. I have an 87' f250 with a 460, 4 speed, 4x4. It's my go everywhere work everyday truck. Recently got a rack and a canopy for it so I can haul more. Back on topic, I bought it about a year ago from a small dealership that Bought it from the original owner. There was even original paperwork from when he traded in his chevy and bought this truck way back in 1987. It was a sad story, the man didn't want to sell it because he had such a connection with it, unfortunately he broke his hip and could no longer shift the transmission. I plan on keeping this truck for a long time and try and keep up on maintenance. It's my third Ford truck. Cheers to you Steve! What would we do without our trucks

What a wonderful story I love these truck stories. I've drove only trucks for 20years since 16. I grew up in genesee county michigan and Ford wasnt an option cause it was chevy town. I never drove a ford on the road until 2014 we test drove one I traded my 2013 brand new chevy for a f150. I'll never drive a gm product truck again until I die. I hope to have the same situation with my ford as you. I bought it with 5 miles on it it never even was test driven just driven around in parking lot. Fantastic story! Ford should use you in an ad! I’m a diehard, bleed blue Ford man. I’ve owned over 40 different ford trucks over the year and they always served me perfectly. I use trucks like you do. My trucks work! Heavy loads, towing and doing things the truck probably wasn’t designed to do but they always did! I running an 03 with 234,000 all original and has been working hard since day one! I just love this truck! Again, great story!

I bought my Grandad's old 4Runner a couple of years ago. He bought it near new 20 years ago. Wonderful story Steve. My most recent truck buy is a 1979 Ford F250. Butter yellow and a strong 351 engine. My plans are to make it as close to looking new as I can, but all original. It is fun to drive and a real work horse.

Hey Steve =) thanks for your response and sorry for my englisch/grammar... I´m doing my best ^^ Where have you been in europe ? in Germany the most Pickups (to my believe pickups are only 1 or 2% of traffic) are small size Pickups like VW Amarok, Ford Ranger etc. If someone drives a US Truck it is in 80% a Ram 1500. My current Truck is my dream since 8 years (a 2011 F-250 Powerstroke) and I bought him at August 2016 ... it is really new for me and I´m so happy that this personal dream of a car for me is became truth. I started a youtube channel two days ago in german language for Trucks like this in europe. because the acquisition of information in metric values is quite hard and the most people dont know the dimesions of trucks like this. I can´t believe that you have build that amazing house by your own hands.... my respect for that. ;-)

What a cool story, Steve you seem to live a simple (but I'm sure, not easy) life. I got my first Ford last year after years of driving Honda's and Toyotas and getting tired of them falling apart physically, while running strong mechanically. I did an overwhelming amount of research, more than I should have as I started to obsess over what brand, and type of truck to buy. Ended up with a 2017 F150 STX, and I'm smitten. I told my wife that I may just never get rid of the truck and keep it as long as possible. I'm handy around the house and with cars, so I expect to do all the maintenance myself. Watching this video was super cool, thanks for sharing.

I've got a 1990 GMC stepside 4x4. I bought it in '91 with 21,000 miles. Overhauled twice and now has a new engine in it. I'll keep it going as long as I can. My truck has worked hard, hunted, fished, camped and hauled motorcycles just to name a few of the adventures I've had in my truck over the last 27 years. Maybe I'll pass it on to my son when he gets old enough to start driving.

Man you're truck is in great shape man those old trucks are dentfully extremely reliable in fact almost as reliable as most Toyotas. I have a 96 Ford F150 with 5.0L Windsor V8 with 203,091 miles on it and it's still going strong.

I acquired my first truck when I was 14, it was my dad's old 1986 F-150 that needed a lot of love. So for the next two years it was body work and mechanical repairs. It had over 300k on the clock when I started working on it and I had if for a few years then he convinced me to trade it in on a ranger. I still wish I had it and we would make it do the same work my 02 7.3 Powerstroke does now. The 300 I6 and granny gear 4 speed is a hard combination to beat for longevity.

I have a 1981 F150. It was bought new here in Omaha, NE by a famous Polka music player whom is now in the Hall of Fame. Anyway, he sold it to my parents when I was 2 years old in about 1992 for $300 USD. We've had it since and it lived throughout the "nickel and diming" and such. I literally had to dig it out of my parents back yard, and she still runs good today. I'm now 26 years old and I'm giving my daughter the memories I once had in the same truck. It's an awesome feeling for sure.

I used to have a 1974 Chevy C 20 which I used for hauling firewood, dirt, stone, lumber and what whatever else I needed to move at the time. It was probably the most important vehicle I ever had. And like you when it came time I gave it to a friend who needed it more than I did. My present vehicle although not a truck is an 1986 Monte Carlo which I use as a light truck sometimes. I bought this one new in 86, and have been working together ever since. I come from a generation of Swedes who don't throw it away just cause it's old. It seems to be an outdated idea now. But we made do with what we could afford.

I bought a 93 F-150 XLT long bed for 2 grand this past October. While I plan on making it fit my personal tastes both aesthetically and physically, it is an absolutely great truck and is indispensable when I need to go get wood for my projects. And at age 18 and the truck only haveing 91k on it, I plan on driving it till the engine falls out of it. And who knows, I may just replace the engine and keep her kickin

Awesome video and my dad has owned his 1998 Ford F-150 for 18 years now which I think is awesome and still running strong with 236,000 miles and as far as your town I actually live about an hour and a half away from the actual Mayberry town from the Andy Griffith show thanks for sharing

I head down to Tennessee sometimes to see my son at university. It would be worthwhile heading over to Mr. Airy. Maybe I'll take the old F150, too! My family and I love the Andy Griffith Show.

Steve Maxwell sounds good to me and that would be a cool trip especially with the F150 and if you had a little extra time you might consider going about 20 minutes south of Mt. Airy and visiting the town of Pilot Mountain (also called Mt. Pilot in the show) or even Pilot Mountain State Park also around 20 minutes south of Mt. Airy which in my opinion from the dozens of times I’ve been there it has some amazing views

in late 93 i bought a 94 Dodge, then Dad bought my Mom a 94 Ford F150 at the same time. Well Mom passed and Dad gave me the truck because my Dodge had BROKE, even though I paid 8k more for the Dodge. Then Dad has passed as well and so has the Dodge, The F150 starts everyday just like it has for the past 22 years.

AMERICAN LEGEND that was the opposite story for my old neighbor who passed away a while ago. Every year or two he would buy a brand new Chevy, then a Ford, then a chevy, Ford, etc etc. Then one year he decided to buy a dodge cummins and that was the last truck he ever owned. He hauled many tons of scrap metal with it and he drove it until the day he died. By that time it was pretty rusty and beat up from its many years of service, but he said that it was the most reliable truck he had ever owned in his life.

Steven Vanheel well ya see there's no such thing as a dodge cummins, there's the company dodge then there the company cummins which have no relation. dodge buys their engines and put s them in their trucks but you are right they are great engines

dakota croasdale well you know what, I can abbreviate if I want to. Chevy didnt make the duramax either, but we don't go around calling that the "Chevy Isuzu Duramax". Ford made a line of diesels that were made by international/navistar, but we don't go around calling them by that name. So your argument is pretty invalid as far as I am concerned, because everyone knew what I was talking about when I said "dodge Cummins". But in order to clarify for the brainiacts that don't quite understand, I will restate it. A 2002 Dodge Ram 3500 with a 5.9 liter 24 valve Cummins. It's not like you could order them with any other brand or type of diesel.

Steven Vanheel yes but duramax and powerstroke are divisions of gm and ford, the engines aren't named that the truck is. you don't hear people calling them ford internationals lol I don't know why it bothers me so much maybe it's because cummins is such a great company and makes amazing engines so I hate to see a company that's utter trash like dodge take credit away from them.
