Steve Perry is one of the all time great voices in Rock n Roll. Etched forever upon our memories are the wails of Don't Stop Believin' and Separate Ways, along with the timeless melodies of Faithfully, Oh Sherrie, Foolish Heart and countless others. After a more than 20 year hiatus, Steve Perry fulfills a promise and finds a lost passion for music and songwriting culminating in the release of the stellar new album "Traces"
Steve joins Jim Brickman to talk about the break and the return, but don't call it a comeback.

i understand how he feels at my age almost 68 yrs old i tend to go into the past thinking about all the years when i was young all the way up until now.. about the smell of spring and summer.. i look at life differantly because when you get our age you wonder where time went . your young and now we are older.. and a i set out side or i will go back to where i went to grade school. or even music will take me back. thank you Steve for being here for us.. and bringing memories back to us.. we are still here for you and will always love you.

This I think is Steve's little piece of heaven. He's definitely finding this is how it should be now . He's his own Boss and that's the way it should be, simply because he can sing what he wants , he can sing the songs that he likes and in general run his own life just as he wants too. That doesn't take away from his time with Jouney, it's just how much more comfortable he is in his own Skin.🎼♥️🇦🇺♥️🇺🇸

People might not like the album but they are so happy that he decided to step back into the music arena! After hearing October in NY I really want Steve to do a whole Pavarotti and Friends type of album. Perry and Friends with Portuguese language and Orchestra. At 7:30 talking Pavarotti I know Steve is starting to think about this. If Aretha Franklin can fill in for Luciano and sing in Italian then Steve can do what I am thinking. It's an idea I've had since hearing Andrea do Sogno. Everyone pay attention. I'm betting that's where things are going. He can even do a back and forth vocally with his current voice and his young voice from the demo of his song for his Mom. This would be Grammy worthy and a tearjerker I'm sure!

Very interesting about how he explains about the difference with the way the younger generation interprets music and the difference today from his day and the passion. I love the camera on the hood of the car, that was a wonderful effect, It was more personal and I am tickled about him saying he had to watch not to run over someone, I love the humor. I agree on the word comeback, You are a new you and you are not the guy in the day, everyone evolves through the years of there life and experience different stages. Lol on the Alfalfa Fields Forever and love to listen to Steve laugh about that. A duet with Sade!!! OMG I love her, what a treat that would be!!! Very awesome interview! Thank you Steve Perry and Jim Brickman for getting Steve on your show.

Thinking about the interviews with Steve over the years, he's always had great insights and a certain way how he describes the topic at hand. Sometimes it's like we're sitting at his feet listening to him talk about the deeper things about living and then he has that giggle and laugh that is so childlike :D Thank you Jim for bringing your musical background into play so we have more understanding of what musically enhanced talents experience behind-the-music. Steve seems to grow in expression with each new experience and shares it so personally with everyone who will listen and hear. Sade! What a masterful concept for Steve and Sade to sing together! Now I'm curious as to who else Steve would love to sing with! Thank you both for an enjoyable half hour and an enlightening one at that :) There are plenty of new songs weaving away in that musical mind of his.. living and experiencing does lead to creativity!

@@rtc931 You're right Richard. I had collected all of the interviews for my own perusal but many have been recently lost to the vapors! Too bad we've not been prescient enough to have made transcripts of each one. One of his FTLOSM interviews he did reference singing with Sade. But it still makes me curious as to who else he'd enjoy singing with :D

Not only is he a good conversation & articulate, well speaking but he's so passionate & honest with a great sense of humor! He even has a great voice when he laugh's & talk's! I sang for awhile and traveled and I have to be honest, the traveling, hotels are amonster! I tell people who tell me to sing again that they should be more respective and understanding of their favorite artist'/entertainers' as they sacrifice so much more than they could imagine! I know from experience! I would like to go another round now as I am more capable now that I've settled and I don't have any personal restraints emotional hang up's or relationship's! I am so thankful that Steve had the heart and courage, the pull and sincerety of his mom and the inspiration of his fan's to keep it going as long as he did and yet triumph over so many challenges long enough to give us the magic of the entertainer person that makes him our no. 1 person, entertainer and mentor of our want's and dream's my hero,STEVE R. PERRY"! I love you baby, thank's on behalf all your fan's(ESPECIALLY ME)! You are "the man, baby"!You make me feel like an natural woman"! You did well and you did right! Now,about the next album... not boasting I sing as well as many... if you ever need me on bkgrnd... I'm a master adliber! I love you, your girl... VELVET💖💋 PS. NO JOKE!!

Great Interview: Always enjoy hearing two musicians speak and share their similar experiences: Only Musicians truly know the language of the all encompassing business of Music and how that affects you both positively and negatively: The Pros/the Cons and the need for rejuvenation and inspiration outside such a tough business. No, your creativity and amazing musical gifts never truly end when you decide to live and breathe and take some time to smell the roses or to feel the cool breezes of those Alfalfa Fields vs. just record/perform/tour and do it all over again and again. Appreciate both your contributions Jim and Steve to my life via your incredible music. You leave an indelible mark on our lives as your music truly is timeless and beautiful. Live, Laugh, Love and Be Happy and go where the wind and the music, life takes you!

I could listen to Steve talk all day ❤ I'd love to see him do a one night only of "Reflections" not something called a comeback. Something on AXIS OR MTV possibly a Pay per view? That way he could keep the studio audience small and comfortable, as stress free as he wants. Sing his music, talk about production and the process he undertakes. I'd love something like that! 💞💞💞💞💜💞💞💞💞 💞💜💞, I know in My First person, I Love your Humor Steve...I think both you guys are too much ,lol. And ,cant get enough of your Laugh . . . Once, again so much you offer & share with Us ... Your definitely exact on how the vocals, emotions, and elements, and also spicy food are so key to how well you'll deliver Expressions from within vocally, had a tuff lesson of that coming off of a head flu/ cold situation a few mnths back & just went off skirt to sing first time publicly with how I receive, and was'nt so hot, lololol, bt I did it.... And,acknowledging one of my Favs.Mr.Pavarotti ,Wow.... Good to know it's not just me seeing this in my own experiences with learning things about my voice as solo. When my Flonase is skipt , Florida Gives me a swift kick of grief, lol. And, Never Can You Go Back, Your Better Now , More Than Ever...And, you still reach Audiences across the board all ages... Timeless, A true Mark Of A Master Pheonix, now awake again... You were just in slumber that's all...We always,Evolve As Energy Is Always In Change Mode, (a lesson I had to face myself within these last 5 years )... And, Sade would be a very good mix vocally,I believe, she better not turn that opportunity dwn.. . And you know,, now there will be ppl trying to sing your songs once again.. .And, wanting you to Perform over and over, that should speak miles. As Always You Teach in all your Shares, ThankYou.... Please, Steve! Just a few small venues for us? And before I get slammed with comments of "Leave Steve alone!"....there is not a person out there that is not also hoping for him to do a few shows. Only the people who are a little OFF are screaming "Stop asking about a tour, Steve might go back into hiding and never sing again!" People have spent a small fortune on all the different editions of Traces and the merch and signed stuff, with the expectation of at least a few shows from Perry. And anyone who says they had no expectation of that is lying to us and themselves.

I definitely would love a tour. The longer time goes, the more I think it won't happen though. I just wish he'd have said off the bat that he wasn't going to tour instead of giving us hope. Will always love him though and thankful for the new music, of course.

@The Copper Nation He should have said that right off the bat then. To give fans hope that he would tour, he kept quiet about it so he could cash in on all the different editions of Traces. Smart man....but he can only do that ONCE. If he does any new music, people will buy ONE LP or ONE CD. And certainly not a bunch of different editions of the same thing. A music artist has to connect with the fans and if Perry had no intention of doing that...he should have said so in August of 2018.

@The Copper Nation in THIS interview?!? Are you sure? I just listened to the whole thing 2x and didn't hear him say that. Can you direct me there, pretty please?

@The Copper Nation I didn't hear him say that in this interview. He said in past interviews that he NEVER knew what his voice would be like minute to minute but it didn't stop him.from touring. His health might be a limiting factor but nothing that would necessarily stop him.

@@davidawilliams8603 I agree. He put up a personal Facebook page and on the side there is a button for "Tour Dates". He didn't have to add that on his personal Facebook page, he did it to make people think he WAS going to do some kind of tour. Why else would he put it there? And then, in his last "Guest DJ" role yesterday on KGB 101.5 he said that Baseball season is here, and "see ya at the games". He is not touring, period. Not cool to lead us on and I hope he made a lot of money scamming all of us into thinking he was doing some kind of tour so we would buy all his versions of Traces, and get the signed bundles. People were stoked and excited and spent a TON of money. My mom said she is selling all the stuff she bought, she doesn't want it anymore. She was so excited that Perry was making a comeback, but she doesn't want anything to do with it now. I have some that I bought and I don't want to sell it, but she does not even want to talk about Perry now.
