I love Steve's approach. I do a 17 set workout that he prescribes in his training for seniors. But I do the 8-12 range which is for younger muscle as i am not 50 yet. I find this is enough stimualation. 60 set workouts is for a competitive mesomorph bodybuilder in his 20's.

I do use his routine on a regular basis However I split upper body one day and lower day the next. It is exhausting doing this full routine in one session.

Krico2006 do you go heavy? To failure on any sets? Or do you stay moderate?
@philipph.3876
@philipph.3876 5 жыл бұрын
@@llg3pe Well, if you are a beginner, 3 sets and 10 reps is the best way to start for each muscle. The stronger and muscular you get, the more you increase your sets and the weight. Use moderate weight and try to stop 1 or 2 reps before failure because it is not about reaching failure; it is about consistency and longevity, looking good and feeling good. 9 sets per muscle are for the advanced fellow who already has a good physique and a really solid foundation. Leroy Colbert recommended 6 sets per body part for the already conditioned bodybuilder. Start with 3 sets per muscle and work your way up to 6 sets or even 9 sets if that is what you are shooting for.

daniel- i have this book,,, great read,,, "some" of the workouts reps and sets i kinda disagree with,,, but,, on the whole, he has a ton of helpful information in there. he also gave out his macros,, 60 carbs, 30 protein, 10 fat. that routine is too much and it would take bout 2hrs to complete, at 3 times a week??? that would burn you out mentally over time. i get better results twice a week with less, then again,,, most important note,,, i'm 51 and my hormones have changed,,, so,,,,, lol. he does mention power walking when you get older so will do more of that to help out. thanks daniel, really like how you look up to the real original old schoolers of bb. that's a quality feather in your cap, so to speak, of growing. peace.

Reeves didn’t really have to train calves because his calves were already a strong body part, if they are a weak body part I would suggest 5x5 for them. He always said to work your weakness very hard and not your strengths, which is what most people do.
@DanielFigueroa
@DanielFigueroa 5 жыл бұрын
yeah but not with 5x5. bad idea. more like 6-30 reps. 18 sets per week
@wtpiep82
@wtpiep82 5 жыл бұрын
Daniel Figueroa so your suggesting 18 sets per week for at least 6 reps, I’m suggesting 15 sets per week for 5 reps, hows that much of a difference? Bad idea? This was suggested by Reeves himself as an alternative to training calves. I can assure you that if calves are a weakness, high reps won’t do much. Don’t knock it until you try it.
@DanielFigueroa
@DanielFigueroa 5 жыл бұрын
reeves had genetically gifted calves, take advice from someone who didn't. I never said high reps. The rep range should be from 6 reps to 20 reps. Something like that would be more optimal.

Nice video. New subscriber here. Steve Reeves was top-tier in terms of aesthetics all time. That silver era look he had was better than golden era guys like Schwarzenegger in my opinion. Totally agree about training neck. I have a naturally thin neck and I trained it three times a week to keep it thick.

i like it deff would work, but i do what leroy colbert would preach and said it multiple times on his youtube channel, and hes up there as one of the GOAT natural body builders IMO. he said he would stick to 3-6 sets per body part depending on how long you been lifting. he preached that many times on his youtube channel which IMO the most informative bodybuilding youtube channel

For the neck you can do pressing a football against a wall/door frame. I use a well-pumped leather ball. And you can get harder ones. It's safer than dicking about with plates on your head.🙂

Hey brother I have a question...Did you find split or full body routines better?
@tonyvee5799
@tonyvee5799 3 жыл бұрын
I have to say FBW . I used to do splits with 2 body parts one body part. I saw some gainz but once I switched to FBW 3 times a weeks I felt like captain america . I was ok ok I like this. Thn I went to upper lower split just to change it up I start seeing my gains diminishing . I said wtf is going on plus I didn't felt the pump doing upper lower. . now if you feel that is to much try to do chest back shoulder and calves Monday Wednesday Friday and legs arms forearms abs on Tuesday Thursday Saturday. It's almost like doing FBW just splitting up.

9 sets per Body part is a nice spot for growth....that routine would take quite a while to complete and the overall volume is very high since anytime to do back or chest work you are working your delts and arms

Press behind the neck never hurt my neck and I've been doing them for 10 yrs. Not super heavy but just as Steve says. Perfect form, slow and controlled and wide grip. Side laterals seated did how ever hurt my neck. You wont get his shape in the shoulders unless you follow his 3 exercises. ITs not a bulky deltoid, its broad shoulder classic line kind of a look, which I prefer.

No offense to the late, great Steeve Reeves, but this routine seem to have a lot of superfluity, redundancy and volume. For example, wouldn't a back routine just require pull up/down, row and lower back extension exercises, with periodic variations, to hit all the major muscles?

Well first he was doing 27 sets per week per muscle group...isn't that too much? Second how can I go all out and to failure on this routine because you only get 1 rest day in between workout days? Ex: Monday workout... Tuesday rest..Wednesday workout again...so how to manage this for maximum growth if am going all out to failure??
