This is really a drum duet, not a battle in my estimation. And both of these men are highly regarded in my book!

Drummers understand that we don’t battle....we trade...we learn......we share....we listen....we grow.....we understand that the only competition we have is within ourselves to be our best self.... this is a lesson in being your best you. Respect to these 2 legends.

I met Steve Smith at a clinic at a grand opening of Sam Ash store in Westbury LI NY in 92-93. He pulled off the longest solo that I have seen it was 20 plus minutes long and full of athletic stamina and intensity. He was drenched in effort. Ever since then I use him as one of my benchmarks in trap playing. The other person was Trilok that was so intense it left a lifelong memory

@joshjamesuk8 жыл бұрын
Why does everyone feel the need to turn this into a competition between Steve and Jojo. There is nothing competitive about it, certainly no 'winners' or 'losers'. It's just two drummers having a fucking great time jamming together. Sit back and enjoy it don't try pin them against each other. That's not what music should be about man.
@AnthonyMariano21128 жыл бұрын
Even though the video has the words "Drum Battle!" in the title?
@mikaelcummings94228 жыл бұрын
At the end of the day it's the competition is what makes drumming fun. It's what makes fun, seeing what the other guy can do and improving. Nothing wrong with friendly competition.
@joshjamesuk8 жыл бұрын
+mikael cummings I feel like making great music is what makes drumming fun. Obviously friendly competition is always healthy. It's when I see people commentating about one 'beating' the other and one being 'shit' it begging to Irritate me. There is no such thing as the best drummer, It doesn't exist. There are simply different drummers. I doubt Jojo went into this hoping to kick Steve's ass or vice versa, he went into hoping to make cool grooves with a friend.
@chaosdecides8 жыл бұрын
People who have accomplished nothing tend to live vicariously through those who have achieved excellence and once that has become "their guy" they defend them vehemently. It's not unlike pro sports fans being overly protective of their favorite team. This is why fans tend to ruin everything.
