I can easily make an argument for or against him making the HOF My case for him - He’s 7th all time in career yards at 14,731 for a WR, slightly ahead of Marvin Harrison also the most yards for any non HOF’er. His 81 TD’s are solid amount and 31st most ever and he’s 10th all time in receptions for WR’s. Then sprinkle in his 5 pro bowls + 2 time All Pro. But the cherry on top on top of this argument is his contribution on Special Teams. His first 4 years he was an elite returner that included 6 special teams TD’s in said years. My case against him - first and foremost is the precedent already set by other candidates who aren’t in the HOF. Guys like Tory Holt, Anquan Boldin and Reggie Wayne are not in and all three are more deserving. So I’d argue it shouldn’t even be a conversation until those get in first. Then looking at his 5 pro bowls and 2 All pros years. Well his rookie year he was both all pro and a pro bowler. However, it was b/c he did it on special teams. Then look his production. He only had 3 seasons over 1,200 yards, only one season over 88 receptions and only 1 season with over 8 TD’s. In fact, he’s only been in the top 7 for TDs once (2005). He’s only been in the top 9 in receiving yards 3 times and top 8 in receptions (2005). This is very damaging to his case. He basically had one great season in 2005 and then was serviceable the rest of his career and while I’m not discrediting him as a valuable asset for a team. But if we’re taking about a HOF career for Smith, no way. He had one HOF season and an after thought every other year in terms of his production vs his peers
