Great interview I must say. He just told his story, plugged his book and dropped a gangload of inside information. Son just spoke like an older cat looking back talking to the folks listening. He did some thangs that changed the game. His name is on a lot of the cd's I have from back in the day. Don't and can't hate, for a change just listen and learn for a second. Much respect Steve.

Graphic designers are the same way. People will pass up on the talent because nobody knows you. The moment you start doing hundreds of projects, that's when the directors call. But here's the thing, they'll want you to deal on their salary. You already have your own salary.

The guy who is taking credit for bringing Cash Money into the limelight is complaining about a lack of talent in the music industry?
@djscottieb01
@djscottieb01 5 жыл бұрын
@@JustDoWhatITellYou i look at it different. when u look at music movements that occupy a space in time in hip hop and basically change a wave , its because they have a main producer who has a vision that's never been seen before and changes the game. marley marl , dr dre ( 3 different times), q tip, puffy, rya, I'm sure i missing somebody about right here, and mannie fresh all did that. as soon as you take them away , the music goes wrong. so there is talent there, but its the producer who has the vision and he directs the rappers and curates the projects on a whole. cash money was the first south movement that NY accepted. there had to be something there to even think about that happening. just my view . and i so agree tho , 3 years later from your comment, you're right , this DIY approach has made it ...umm.. different..on all levels

You are so right, rap will never be the same. And no one but people who lived that life knew what those words meant. 😂😂 Now days everybody plays as if they have lived or live that life. You are also right that the music industry aka Record labels will sign anybody, I miss my 90s rap and r&b. 😢😢 Very few good artist and music now days. Music doesn't speak you you or make you feel the way it used to.

Very interesting discussion. One thing though, Alicia Key's didn't get dropped, Colombia just refused to let her do her music her way, but also didn't want to let her leave, which ended up in Clive Davis buying out her contract. They would have been content to have her music sitting on a shelf for years, which is just another example of how spiteful things can get in the industry, and how you really have to know what you want in order not to get run over and made into a gimmick.

So glad they asked that question about Dame. I know Dame's now regretting treating people the way he did. There's a video on here where he talks about the break-up of Roc-a-fella & he's all humble. So you know he's thinking that if he did treat people better maybe things would've been different. Infact I kind of think the reason Lyor Cohen did what he did w/ Jay is b/c of Dames way of dealing w/ people. You can't have a person like that running a business & being around exec & bus. partners.
