Nationally, everyone thinks Derek Jeter is "The Captain", or within the NHL people think of Messier as "The Captain.". Yzerman was named captain at 21. You can't find a teammate, opponent or enemy who would speak ill of him. Was the most respected player in the game. They don't make players (or men) like they used to.

@@Yzerman1991 To Red Wings fanboys of a certain age. Older folks might think about Gordie Howe and Sid Abel who won multiple championships. This was a terrible accident and Vlad was a stellar player. He was a punk, but .... whatever. Red Wings fans tend to think everything about their team was always the "best". I get it. There were a lot of great guys wearing the "C" who won more Stanley Cups than Stevie Y. But, he's a Motor CIty icon, played his entire career there and he's worthy of the discussion.
