The fish smell is present in a lot of different chemicals when they haven't been purified properly. The smell comes from Amines; once you've smelled it once, you don't forget it. It's like how sulfur or ammonia have distinctive smells.

Great review of amazing ration. They have hindu and vegetarian menues beside western and halal if you want to add it to annotations, plus group CRP for 10 people. Each new Steve video is a bright smile all the way through. Great stuff in this one, and yes, unsweetened protein powders taste horrible. Years ago, a friend of my fathers that worked in the (then) emerging industry of protein (in Europe) related things gave us a few samples (the usual stuff family members get and stuff) despite the cocoa base, it still tasted like death, never understood how they marketed (and in time, succeeded) these things back then.

Sidenote, you know, it's been years since i've come across bloomed chocolate. I think it might actually be a decade since. We've really brought the standards of manufacturing really high on that. And i do eat quite a bit of bitter chocolate, which, in the past, would yield the most weird looking coloration despite being well with expiration date and properly sealed.
