Fun fact: these didn’t include heaters, not only because they may be difficult to use for the uninformed but because they can also be used to make small anti-personnel explosives

the calorie denseness of this type of pack makes a lot of sense. A military MRE is designed to not bog down a soldier like a heavy meal would. Also those are designed assuming that a soldier has received regular nutrition, so don't need to be as calorically dense. A humanitarian unit is made assuming that the people receiving them may have not have had access to food for prolonged periods and needs more nutrition.
@arthas640
@arthas640 4 жыл бұрын
Humanitarian meals like these are often as calorie dense as possible, like the Plumpy Nut. They're usually very high protein, high fat, and easy to digest carbs with a good nutrient density. Nuts and beans are popular choices.

yep. you want as much nutrition into as small a physical quantity of food.. people who have not had much food for prolonged periods usually get sick if they eat too much too fast. plus it means you fit a full day's nutrition into an easily carried package.

Me as an Iraqi person I used to eat bunch of American MREs, They were so great, I remember my father had some friends from the Airborne 101ST me and my father used to visit their base inside my town, and they used to give me alot of American food not only MREs. They even gave me a semper fi, and it's still with me till this moment. I hope I can find them they were so friendly soldiers, and I hope they're fine and well. Thank you for this video Steve.

BlackHat Visions Well it`s not the soldiers fault US was there tho, he would probably prefer to be home with his family. However their goverment/system is pretty rotten, its not what i would call a democracy. More like a dictatorship, where money has all the power. Obama had a great speech about this, how they need to get rid of cynisism. How to sort out elections. My simple fix would be, give all candidates money to run their campaign. Everyone gets the same amount, no funds from outside allowed. Even the loopholes they currently use. When there is a level playing field, the competition will altso rise. Cause the average Joe has exactly the same chance as a old kid who has inherited billions to make it, most likely will the most skilled one win. Thus competition will rise, as value is in the person and not how much money he can cough up.
@blackhatvisions

@@MrDanisve I understand you. But the soldiers are the ones who did the Killing, raping, torturing, humiliation and degrading to world the citizens of Iraq. Not George Bush. Most of the US soldiers are sick in the brain, they did unforgivable things. They destroyed a whole country that is still suffering till date. And they keep manipulating it. The rotten government is manipulating Syria as well rn. But in the end, the soldier's hand is the one with blood on it. They didn't just kill.

BlackHat Visions yeah they do unforgivable things because they’re soldiers in a war zone. And where do u get this information that American soldiers rape people I know plenty of them and they are all good men and all soldiers are sick in the brain the things they see and do make them like that.
@alexanderwood180

Iraq did a remarkably good job destroying itself without the help of the US. The bloody hands are the cowardly people who won't take back their country, and the rotten governments would include the middle eastern shitholes that haven't provided a competent leader since the crusades. Hide behind ancient history, it's the only moral high ground you have.

@@arx3516 the problem with that is you need power to store the fresh food to keep it from rotting, You need a shit ton of it to feed people, you need fuel for the generators to power both the cold storage for the food and the cooking equipment and the last part being people competent in both cooking and cooking for large groups at a time. Humanitarian daily rations are just a safer and easier way to feed lots of people without having to overcommit on resources that are likely stretched thin during a disaster and makes it much easier to concentrate on what to bring in bulk to an area being HDR's, Water, Medicine, Shelters and Fuel.

@@arx3516 That happens, too! Community organization usually involves work like that, as well as state and local responses. However, for a fast distribution of food that won't spoil or be damaged, it's hard to beat these things, and that's what FEMA would be doing by giving them out. If your goal is to make sure no one starves even if things are so bad nobody can cook, this is exactly the right tool for the job.
