Howdy folks, got a little late night double feature. This IMP 18 and a 2011 Swedish Survival Ration (Also with a vintage Swedish Survival Ration inside that review for comparison. This is really Québecois comfort food. Any French-Canadian had a mother who cooked a "Pâté Chinois" and date squares. Ketchup really is necessary. At home you'd probably have homemade fruit ketchup. And you can totally heat the date squares, that how we eat them in my family with table cream or ice cream. The only things missing are a May West cake and a can of Pepsi.

Shepard's pie is usually made with Lamb, as the name entails. Pork or Beef is called a Cottage pie

By far one of my favourite IMP’s during my time in the CAF. It’s not great when compared to any normal hot meal, but compared to other rations in the field, it’s damn good. Ensure to add the salt and pepper. I can also confirm that the chocolate bars were a solid morale boost

i would love shepards pie as a US MRE option but these videos just show how lucky we are. Someone out there cares and packs M&M's and Kit Kats in our MREs. And every now and then I'd love to grab one of these and dig in just on a normal day. Food is an excellent source of happiness and I'm thankful for the committees and companies that put these together.

Love your videos! Thanks! I ate IMP's 3 times a day for 7 months as a Canadian soldier in Somalia. Kind of miss them. I do prefer the US MRE's though. More flavorful IMO.

Interesting fact, the French name "pâté chinois" or "Chinese stew" (rough translation) comes from the fact that ground beef, corn and mashed potatoes is what they served the Chinese workers who worked on the Canadian railroad. Also, Kit Kat is the most popular candy bar in Canada.

@@SomeInterestingName it's very much a derivative of shepherd's pie but it's not quite the same. And it's much more a staple in Québec among French Canadians than the Anglo side of the country.

Hello, Mr Pedant here, I know your comment is 4 years old, but that's not going to stop me from pointing out that shepherd's pie is made with ground lamb, if it was ground beef, that would be a cottage pie.
