Chicago Cubs fan here-I never thought the Cubs would win a World Series in my lifetime. After the Steve Bartman incident, I genuinely believed the franchise was cursed and didn’t think I could bear to watch another game. Then, in 2016, I got to see them finally do it. There’s nothing like it. I’ll remember exactly where I was, who I was with, and how I felt for the rest of my life. If the Leafs lose on Monday, it will just make the moment sweeter when it finally comes. I know it’s hard to think like that right now, but I thought maybe a little empathy from a fellow human who cheers for a perennially “unlucky in the post-season” franchise might help provide a little perspective. Let’s go! Leafs in 7.

I moved to the GTA from the US in December and my roommate is a Leafs fan. Being a Sabres fan, I have a unique and deep understanding of unending disappointment and disbelief your team can give you. I wish I could say something to reassure you, but I can't. I have watched most of the Leafs games this season with my roommate, partly in support of my roommate, partly because it was nice to watch hockey that didn't make me want to fling myself off the CN Tower. I've realized that I have affection for a lot of the players because when I do, I refer to them by their first names like we're pals. I have always loved John Tavares, so rooting for him is no chore. Watching this has been brutal and it's not even my team (and my team is basically the very definition of brutal). One of my favorite players to watch on the Leafs is Marner and he IS KILLING ME. Mitchie, buddy, I can't lose more players to misery. I have enough of that in Buffalo, you gotta find yourself, my dude. This series is giving me serious flashbacks to the last time the Sabres were in the playoffs and they had the series in their hands and TOTALLY BLEW IT. Anyway, we enjoy your videos a lot and not just when you freak out. I really appreciate your approach to the sport. If I ever see you in the "wild", your coffee is on me.

"What would you change?" Honestly, at this point, the one thing I would change is ever becoming a Leafs fan. I've never been so close to crying during a hockey game before this. Being a Leafs fan is like being in a toxic relationship. Being a Leafs fan is setting yourself up for disappointment and heartbreak. At this point, man, i'm angry and sad and all of the above and I know there's no point. I had this underlying numbness and lack of hope settling in my heart as soon as Montréal scored those 2 goals in the first. I can't even begin to explain how frustrated and depressed I am because of this. I've dedicated all my life to this team. It's a toxic and vicious cycle of loyalty and commitment that I can't help but feel will only lead to being disappointed over and over again. I don't know whether these feeling's are towards this hockey team, or myself for still blindly believing in this hockey team. I'm just so tired.

As a Winnipeg boy growing up with no NHL team, I cheered for the Leafs as they were usually the team CBC would cover on Saturdays. The second they announced the Jets were getting a team back I dropped the Leafs like a bad habit. Haven't missed them for a moment. I'll make you a guarantee, the Leafs will never win a Stanley Cup again. Yes technically you can argue they have a chance every season, but I'm telling you this now as honestly as I can. It's NEVER going to happen. This isn't like the Red Sox, this isn't like the Cubs, this isn't like the Cavaliers, this isn't like Liverpool FC. The Leafs are cursed in a way beyond any franchise in pro sports and it's going to stay that way for the rest of our lives and the lives that come after. Don't risk your health over the performance of any sports team. Toronto has to want it more, they have to win the puck battles and let Montreal know they are there, check the body, play physical. They have the talent, it's the will and desire that makes the difference. Game seven should be epic.

Y’all shipped out your last great can do player in Kessel, just you didn’t surround him with other players to assist him like you did with Mathews. Funny how the fans chase players out of Toronto and then they play ten fold better out of the franchise. Keefe needs to go, you need a trotz!

The last "What would you change?" part of this rant really hurt to hear. If we just sucked it would be one thing... it’s the resurgence of hope and then the inevitable feeling of disappointment over and over and over again. Well said. The amount of emotional energy I have given this team, cheering for them on my grandfather's lap until now at the age of 36, with almost nothing in return, but like you said being good enough that hope springs eternal just to be quashed at the peak potential for emotional damage, time and time and time again....
