My favorite Santana's song for ever and ever, the best blues of Santana for me. The beggining is missing, but the main thing is in. When I fly I think about this song. Interestingly, not as well known as "Samba Pa Ti" or "Europa" and some other songs, this is the finest track Carlos has created in his long career. Glad that I am not alone.

Carlos plays just like a painter who lets his painting enchant you. With his unique style like Rembrandt, van Gogh and Picasso. Caravanserai is more than 50 years the place where love, spirituality and cultures come together.

I cannot stop watching this video. The last time Carlos, Neal, and Gregg played this song together was in 1976. Carlos last played it in 1979 and finally dropped Just In Time To See The Sun from his set list in 1980 according to my vault. To bring it back is a dream come true for we Caravanserai lovers. For Carlos and Neal to embrace at the end of the song brought tears to my eyes. Dear Carlos, you fulfilled millions of dreams. This song had better make it to the DVD. One more thing; Carlos.....you have finally danced with the ghost.........

I was really disappointed that Song of The Wind did not make it onto the DVD! I would be eager to know why SOTW didn't make the cut, and why they included a somewhat sloppy version of Samba Pa Ti.

Agree ! Should have been included as bonus-filler even though it was not from the Vegas venue which they were probably under contract with. The audio well engineered STEREO copy from Allenton is stellar.

Full circle "Carlos." This is so good to see and reminisce. News flash... For those whom, are not aware... DID YOU KNOW....! Neal Schon was the lead guitar player on the studio cut of, "Song Of The Wind.,' recorded on Santana's Caravansarai LP ? With a Stratocaster, no less. That was some serious guitar news in the mid 70's. This was when a the much smaller community of the "few and the idolized" group of crossover musicians/guitarists, etc, were fusing groundbreaking work. You couldn't get enough it seemed for those who became inspired. Carlos was one of them, And willing to explore boundaries.. "Bridging the gap," and passing it on down yonder.. What a time., When many thought remarkable artistic content, combined with a commitment to musicianship was "all that," back in the day. KZbin just wasn't around like it is now, allowing the masses to O.D. on the vast archive of stellar performances, posted by the holdouts of precious content. To be able to guzzle all the footage of music's history in one gulp? Here. Check this out... Someone in Carlos's circle... Make it loud. kzbin.info/www/bejne/enWuYWWdq7x7gMU * I'm just saying... What a time. Guitar Speak is... "A true commitment at minimum, to one's creative potential. For some.., The Spiritual. A burning passion of inner searching and awareness., Take it to a another level.? The point of a humble devotion. Perhaps an arrival to a clearer purpose... To extrapolate.. Transcendent through a chosen instrument.. An extension of the body electric." John McLaughlin seems to express the inexpressible.

Notably absent from the lineup on Santana IV is Jose' 'Chepito' Areas. I couldn't find anything on his status on Wikipedia. In addition, other posters have noted Michael Carabello's lack of energy on this clip. I found the same thing on the AXS TV Santana IV Las Vegas concert. He looks a bit out of it; almost catatonic. The percussionists have always been a huge part of the Santana sound. The younger fellow on the timbales on this clip has been with Carlos for quite some time (don't remember his name). He's okay, but I'd still prefer Chepito. Does anyone have info on how he's doing?
@gork830
@gork830 8 жыл бұрын
And I too do not consider this a very good rendition of what should be one of Santana's all-time best instrumentals. The song is really all about the Q &A between Carlos and Neal Schon...it almost seems like they're just playing around.
@matugameplay5172
@matugameplay5172 8 жыл бұрын
It's Karl Perazzo on percussion. Has been with Carlos for MANY years now. Also occasionally plays conga and helps out the now weak Mike C. on congas on Soul Sacrifice from the same concert. Chepito has suffered from both stroke and bad health for many years and was not fit to tour. Moreover, he is known for his bad temper and has had a few fall-outs with Carlos over the years.
@tommccarthy3052
@tommccarthy3052 8 жыл бұрын
@gork830 - Chepito has has various "issues" thru the years as I'm sure you know). His son has played with Gregg Rolie's band (don't know if he's still a member tho'). Chepito does have a Facebook page and there are some sideways references there about him not participating in the "Santana IV" but nothing specific. I grew up in S.F. and saw Santana many, many times. Chepito was in the band a couple of times along the way. But the shows that I remember were the Abraxas shows at the Fillmore (they had to call the band Abraxas Pool at that point due to legal reasons). That band reunited the full percussion front line, and the pure sound, fury, power and rhythm that Chepito, Carabello & Shrieve created on that stage was wondrous to behold in person. One of the three shows they did was recorded (audio and video) but for some reason was never released. Too bad and I never could find out why. BTW - when I went to see Al DiMeola last year another Bay Area vet, and former member of Santana, Mingo Lewis showed up to play. Nice. Hope this info helps.

Nice vid, but what bothers me is in the title, "original line up". Where's Chepito? The original timbalero/percussionist? Karl Perrazo is good, but no where near the caliber of Chepito. Carlos still having issues with Chepito? Bury the fucking hatchet and be the bigger man and extend the olive branch Carlos! Benny Rietveld does a fine job for the late-great, RIP, David Brown (original bassist).
