Hi Steve. I've been quietly watching your videos for sometime and thoroughly enjoy them. I'm picking up lots of ideas and tips. Recently retired myself with a software technology background, I've been using a very small desk top Unimat ML for a while for some of my model making and am now planning to convert my garage to a proper workshop and acquire a proper lather and other machine tools. Your channel has given me much inspiration!

That's pretty impressive, can you do a detailed video of the actual head you made for the oil can? I'd be very interested in this!

In my little one garage workshop lately I've been running a couple of halogen inspection lamps when I'm in there. They flood the place with light (Obviously), and kick out just enough heat to knock the sharp edge off the chill after an hour or so.

Really well done. My modern mini lathe has oilers with a ball inside but are flat around, not any cone like Your ones. "Filling up" with oil brings the result of more oil floating around outside then inside. It's like air vent for car tires, the needle, here a ball, needs to be pressed down for success.

Nice modification Steve. Well demonstrated. Cheers, Jon

All looking good for the oil dispenser . Q. how do you drill your brass bar, without breaking drill bits, as i broke my centre drill, and then i broke my drill bit to. Can you do a vid on how you made this oiler.

If you go to Steve's playlist and open "Myford ML7 Maintenance & Upgrade" you'll find several videos about the oilers. They kind of evolved through incremental upgrades rather than being a single modification, so you might have to watch a few videos to get the whole picture.

I've never been sure about the geometry of the tip to match these button oil fittings. Should the tip be fine enough to mechanically depress the ball, or is it just the pressure of the injected oil that presses the ball? If the (fine) tip depresses the ball, is the tip notched a bit so the ball doesn't then seal the tip?

Hi Kevin I don't know really. I have tried lots of different tips. They all leak a bit in use. So now I have made a special adaptor....in my next video. Regards Steve ..

Very good idea. I have the standard nipples on my ML7 and the only way i have got to oil them is a syringe. I noticed the Myford oil guns are very expensive.

Great idea Steve! All those struggling to fill the oilers and they never thought to turn something on the lathe! WHere did you get the better oil ball valves from? Also Happy New year!

Thanks. I can't find the company I bought them from now. But I have just finished another upgrade which will allow the use of any button oiler. Regards Steve

Hi Steve - I need some help with ML7, I wonder if you had a few minutes to assist me? I have removed the cap head screw as I wanted to try to engage the back screw gears, I think this was a mistake as I now cannot engage the main gears? How do I put it back please?
@SteveJordan3 жыл бұрын
Hi I think you will have to look at the backgear where you removed the screw. Look at the other side and pull up the gear tooth so you can put the screw back in. Then when the screw is in push the screw away from you whilst tightening it. This engages the tooth in the spindle gear to drive it. If you loosen the screw and pull it towards you whilst tightening it..this disengages the gear so as to use the back gear. Let me know how you get on.

@@SteveJordan brilliant, thank you. I have now done it. I’m going to be a new tool post this week, what do you recommend please?
@SteveJordan3 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike Thanks great that you sorted it. It's good as it inspired my next video on the subject. The toolpost that is ideally suited is the Dixon or Dickinson type. I have an Chinese gib type toolpost as well. I find them as good as one another. The above mentioned one goes on the lathe without any modifications though so it's probably best to get that. Regards Steve
