Loved the last vid. Bummer about Tom's trx and Durango. Thank you for the continued content and transparency! Some people will never understand that mechanical things break especially at this level.(Especially if its a fueling issue,clogged injector etc)

Been there done that it’s ROUGH! Built motors for National GNCC and mx… you can build the best motor in the world, but once it goes out that shop door, it’s out of your hands… I’ve saw it all, incorrect jetting, oil filters in backwards, loose, dirty and un-oiled air filters, pump gas…. We’re either a hero or a zero.

The attitude you have towards this whole racing game is awesome. There's enough out there for everyone to get the engine that's right for them to go fast regardless of whether you're wrenching it or not. That's what breeds innovation.. by creating a quality, tried, tested product that is a huge name in the field.

My guess is Pro Line put a different cam in that engine & it's what broke. I heard the back 4 cylinders had no valve train movement as if the cam broke.
@stick0042 сағат бұрын
Agreed. I bet it was a non-tool steel Proline cam that broke and he took it right back to them…

It's really not worth the risk owning a new Dodge, especially the performance versions if they aren't kept in garages. They are just to damn easy to be stolen, sucks but it is what it is.

Hmmm... I don't know anything but it looks like an injector got plugged or maybe the ECU told that hole to run the street injector?? Inquiring minds want to know. Maybe 7 cylinders were hooked up to Slayer in Spotify and 1 got Barry Manilow! 😂😂

@cmsracingСағат бұрын
My guess is injector related problems for the damaged piston. Maby a slightly loose connection that only happens at high rpm (vibration related).
@bobqzzi51 минут бұрын
Great video as usual Love the look inside the engines. Tough to make 4500HP+ then drive down the road. Just amazing at what's been achieved so far. Drag and drive areas for improvement (imo): 1. Have aerodynamic consultant design the ducting on the front of the cars to improve cooling. Some look okay, but others are way less than optimum. 2. Better fuel injection systems. You don't need F1 stuff, but given the investment in these engines, stuff from Lemans cars would be appropriate. Bosch, Life Racing, Motec.. 3. Better fuel injectors 4.Don't run closed loop during actual runs 5. Pneumatic valvetrain I know this is a heavy lift, but given the cubic yards of money spent on getting billet blocks and heads made, it is certainly feasible. Would cut way down on wear and tear. 6. Some sort of alternative transmission. Building one to hold down that much HP then tow a trailer is a tall task and it is amazing the Turbo 400s work at all. Maybe a Lenco with a lock up torque converter.

I love the twin blower setup, that would look nice on a SMX but but keep the twin turbos to keep the twin blowers from getting lonely at the top of the SMX block and call it the SMXX

Steve, I hope you can get more info on the SMX Viper failure. You mentioned a broken cam. I am wondering how a tool steel cam breaks??? As far a revolutions of the engine per 1/4 mile pass, the number is rather low. Lets say your engine spins 8600 RPM's for a full pass, of 7.0 seconds. (7/60) X 8600 = 1004 Revolutions for that pass, under load. Note each cylinder only fired the spark plug half of that or 502 times. Note to Allen, get well and leave the generator on the trailer next time, or ask for help from the spectators!!! Clark, we love you, good luck!!!
@davidkeesling62092 сағат бұрын
Why did Clark's car go BANG and roll 2 feet at Indy? I asked him about 30 minutes later and he didn't know what broke.

talk of Tom's chassis. that car is used up, and the entire chassis needs to be replaced. as great as that car is, its a rolling death trap at this point. ive got to question the math on clark's engine "thousands and thousands of revolutions". id bet from the time he lets go of the trans brake to clicking it off in the traps, is right about 1000 revolutions.

@chandlerfrazier55 минут бұрын
I have literally no personal experience with something like what happened to Clark. But from years of watching people torch junk, my guess is an injector failed given its only one piston. Or a coil pack lost its absolute mind, but my guess is it got lean and turned into a blow torch in that cylinder.

Was there any head damage on that single cylinder that got harmed? Did you or do you flow test the injector, see if it was clean and good spread.
@adambutrym45344 минут бұрын
Steve! Why do you feel the need to defend yourself over part failures? Notice how everyone running a proline engine use a push cart to get to the line? You build/make long lasting, proven, reliable engines that allow people to enjoy their cars to the fullest. You do you, and continue being the best at what you do. The constant defending yourself and your work is off putting. Instead of “for off road use only,” Steve morris engine are “for ON road use only!”

8,000 rpm/7.25 seconds is 1103 revolutions per pass and 1103/2 for a 4 stroke engine is 552 firings per cylinder per pass. Is this correct?

Buy one and you squeeze it on the Dino it’s a complete waste of money on his part first, it cost him one of his SMX then it’s really rough on the Dino!wtf?

The total HP means nothing, a snot colored small block ford completely annihilated everything for the last couple years and it was like 2,500-2,800. 5400 is pointless when you can’t put 3K down consistently
