The secret is setting up the lighting and color balance as to trick the eye into thinking the two blended images are the same and the background blends seamlessly with the foreground. That and a good balance between practical effects, props and cgi. Breen is a god when it comes to such professional editing.

Breen generally has an idea (albeit a terrible one) as to what his movie is going to be about and goes with it, whereas Seagal simply goes with himself being special ops and invincible and what not and focuses on that instead of having any idea (albeit a terrible one) as to what his movie is going to be about.
