Some people question how Steven was able to turn out like this. It is to them that I remind them of TWO things the show has established. 1. Gem Corruption, while the result of the Diamond Blast from the war, is often caused when a Gem's psychological state suffers from a great deal of truama or stress. Unfortunately, Steven has suffered BOTH throughout most of his life...and no one's made an effort to help fix it. His mom inadvertently caused a war The Diamonds tried to destroy HIM and his home The Gems either ignored his human needs or resented him for "taking Rose away" His dad was never around to help him Connie abandoned him for several weeks for his decision to surrender to Homeworld (which I still think is VERY stupid) and he's lived with a severe Inferiority Complex for years People talk about Batman having issues...but Steven had it so much worse. 2. Gem Corruption was also the result of damage to one's gemstone and Steven had HIS plucked out of his body, thus adding more to the psychological issues he suffered already. With these two aspects in mind, Steven's change in this episode seems highly plausible

That's all terrible, but Steven didn't HAVE to surrender himself to Homeworld. He decided to do that against the gem and Connie's protests. That was all on him, and Connie's feelings were totally justified. Steven tried to come back and pretend that everything was fine when he knew damn well it wasnt.

Also since diamonds have the power to corrupt any gem with psychological trauma, wouldn’t steven theoretically be able to corrupt himself?

One other thing that many haven't mentioned is the fact that it was previously established in one episode that Steven's body changes by what he feels like (when he felt old he became an old man, when he felt like a baby he became a baby, etc, etc) and I think maybe this is him feeling like a monster, so he became one. Corruption is definetly possible, but I that isn't the case here, I think he just convinced himself he was a monster. Of course, these are just theories and neither is confirmed, so I'm just giving out another possibility here.

I do not know if you noticed (I think so), but I am going to tell you and it is that in the final part of the chapter when Steven is crying, you can feel that he first cries for happiness and then cries to get all those feelings saved , that he had repressed all his life for not thinking about him, he just wanted to mention this to you, I love you.

@@Salza02 Well, as somebody who actually *does* have a diagnosis of PTSD, I can assure you, he’s pretty damn right. While the symptoms Steven portrays throughout the season are, I guess somewhat accurate, they’re exaggerated beyond belief and inconsistent.

As someone who suffers ptsd, and has a bf with ptsd, we both actually really liked this. For me, it was really comforting, and I’ve watched it so many times. More than I can count, lol.

I do agree, though, the whole thing with everyone crying and blaming themselves was kinda silly. But I loved Connies speech. And It’s not like the hug solved everything. It just helped Steven get back to his normal self. He still had a lot of work to do, afterwards.
