Pearl isn't for everyone but to me she is an INCREDIBLE character. She plays a HUGE part of the story, and not just because she's one of the main characters. Pearl is very complex and very flawed and that's why I love her so much. Watching her grow and overcome those flaws was really satisfying for me.

Lapis is a mood. She's also one of the strongest non diamond gem. She was resisting blue diamonds pathokinesis. She did a (very sad) power move. She wipes away a single tear and goes. "I've felt worse" and was the only gem that was unaffected by blue diamonds pathokinesis. Everyone else was on the ground and unable to move in tears. Lapis doesn't even flinch.

they can accidentally fuse but that one wasn't. they are supposed to be in sync. so either they know each other extremely well that they can do so with minimal action (think speaking in sync with your best friend), fusion dancing, or something like army training. so they can fuse without meaning to fuse but having the same ultimate goal. a fuse can also be forced but unstable.

If you want context for the “Steven coming out of hair” thing, they have a pink lion that Steven can use to teleport anywhere through it’s fur. It only works with Steven because of his gem and if something were to happen to even halfway shatter the gem, he would lose the powers connected to the gem including the ability to use Lion(they named the pink lion) to teleport.
