This is the biggest fuck you to her old label. This single is what got her dropped, and now the crowd is singing it back to her with unheard of clarity and enthusiasm at SNL. Good for Chappell, she is ICONIC

The SNL crowed quite literally never sings that loud. That’s so unheard of.

I've been watching SNL since it premiered in 1975 and have never,ever seen that happen. I had heard of Chappell but had never heard her music so was curious as to what the buzz was. I get it now,she blew me away. Goosebumps when they crowd sang like that.

She's making her mark. For a singer to ascend so high so fast, her 2024 may be more similar to Elvis' 1956 than any other solo performer's breakout year since his. Examine the chronologies of both. The Colbert show, Tiny Desk and Coachella viral vids being comparable to Elvis' Dorsey Bros. show appearances early in the year, and proceed from there.

Well the audience is usually told not to sing so the people can hear the performance so I assume she asked Lorne & producers if she could.

Chappell shared a 2011 post on Facebook where she stated “I’m determined to be on SNL”. Glad to see her make it. I love her rock band sound, her costumes, and all her performances.

She posted that when she was 13. She's 26. It's amazing that she even remembered the post, much less could dig it up from 2011.

Vocals were great on a stage that notoriously turns music to crap. Loved the Bonnie Raitt meets Bride of Frankenstein look, the face card on "Saturday," the audience singing, the inhale, scooting, hair banging, stumbling, laughing and then singing "I'm gonna keep on dancing" leading into a fog swirling spin. Just a series of moments.

Right. The SNL audiences typically suck, AND the acoustics there swallow sound. I took the 30 Rock tour once and you can see how bad the setup is. Add how rare it is to get a SNL audience singing along? Loudly? Accurately? That's when you know the performer has stopped being a mere star... or even a Superstar... and is in Icon territory. You know who else would get that response? Lady Gaga. Or Taylor Swift. Maybe Chappell's friend and label-mate Olivia Rodrigo is in that zone now.

I agree something about her live sets just hits different! You should react to her other performance from this SNL show where she debuted her new country single "The Giver" it's fantastic too imo :)

The day before SNL she shared a Facebook post from her personal FB page in 2011 when she was 13 years old that just said “I am determined to be on SNL”. So inspiring.

Pink Pony Club is one of my fav Chappell tracks so I was so excited when she performed it! I love that so many in the audience knew the words to a song that didn’t even really get radio play. I can’t wait for her next album!

SNL audiences are infamous for being meh. To get what sounds like most of that audience singing along. And freaking SO loud it's louder than the artist? That's a sure sign she's vaulted right from "Star" (over "Superstar") right to " Icon". Half the reason being the confidence she had KNOWING she'd get that response.
@bartlebyscrivener298012 күн бұрын
It's SO risky springing that on a randomly chosen SNL live audience cold, I have to think either Chappell or her manager at least asked the audience there, pre-broadcast, how many of them were able to sing the chorus to PPC.
