Northern Nigeria is not what you THINK it is | Travel Kano

In today's episode, I traveled up northern Nigeria to see if what I hear on the news is the actual reality. Kano is known to be the capital of northern Nigeria and home to 20 mIllion People, the second largest city in Nigeria after Lagos, But stands out with its very rich heritage and history.
Kano is also home to some of the richest men in Africa, Topping the list is Dangote now worth, $20 billion, Abdulsamad worth $6.6B. But the reality remains that most people in the north live in abject poverty, and have not been exposed to modern-day technology.

Love this video. But at the same time, I am saddened by the poverty and lack of development in some parts of Kano. Also in a way whilst I respect culture and religion but sometimes holding on too tightly to them can be a detriment. I am not against polygamy but I think it is wrong for any man to take on more than one wife and have numerous children unless they can afford to provide a very decent life for them all. It makes no sense to have 7 wives and 20 children if as a man you can afford to support them. And is it worth the money that Dambe is bringing in if at the end of the day those fighters are unable to enjoy it because they are handicapped or dead? In spite of that, I still love to see our African people working hard trying to make a decent living even with very little help from some of our leaders. Great video bro.

You are very right sir and that is what the Quran teaches marry one wife and if u are capable and want to do it then, marry more than one wives but most northern men marry 3 to 4 wives and can not take care of them and there kids which is a very big sin...what brought about 4 wives started in earlier times when men use to go for wars and most men died so there were less men than women so it was allowed to marry women most especially the widows, the divorcee and the older ones but this days all some men do is go about and marry women 20 years younger than their first wife am not saying its wrong but if u are not capable please don't do it and suffer innocent children and women

I did my National Youth Service in Kano, that one year really changed my perspective about the North. I was also opportuned to travel to other neighboring cities like Zaria and Maiduguri during that time. This video really took me back to those days😍 Northerners are not as bad as we think they are, they are actually really peaceful and hospitable. God bless them!

People are always criticizing North's illiteracy. One must makes it clear what illiteracy he is referring to. Western education illiteracy or illiteracy in it's entirety? Vast majority of the northerners can read and write in Arabic language. It's literacy! Isn't it? Nobody is arguing that North is left far behind concerning Western education status but if literacy means 'ability to read or write', then northerners are literate. The number of people that can memorize The holy Qur'an offhand are in millions.

I am a northerner and muslim, but let's not lie to ourselves, most northerners truly are illiterate, both in terms of western and even Islamic education. Sure, majority of us can read the Quran in arabic, but how many of us actually know the meaning of what we're reading? I now live in the United States, and even though people know Africa is rapidly developing, there is still a lot of ignorance about the reality of the continent. Afternoon watching this video, my natural reaction is to ask this guy who the he'll he think he is? He is talking ⁶ Kanu the way white people talk about Africa. He mentioned that he left his comfort zone 😆 🤣 😂 where ? In Nigeria? The guy misguided people with the title to gain clicks, when I fact he just wanted to put Kano and its people down. How Kano's poverty is different than other poor areas of Nigeria and Africa? How Kano's polygamy is different than other parts of Nigeria and Africa? Africans are polygamous by nature. I grew up in a highly diverse neighborhood/ environment were at an early age I got to learn about different tribes and cultures. Lovely but I just want to correct the opening statement that Kano is the capital of the North. It is the commercial capital of the North while Kaduna has always been the North's political capital before Abuja.

Please don't give Abuja to the core northerners, it belongs to us the Middle Belt people and it is our future political capital should anything happens to Nigeria unity. Thanks
