I never met him but in recent years I did meet someone who knew him, in fact he worked for Stevie the last four years of his life. He said off stage Stevie was kind, humble, soft-spoken, smart & funny. But when he got on stage he was the absolute best. He said Stevie always told everyone close to him he loved them when saying goodbye because we never know when it might be our last opportunity to express our appreciation for each other. After achieving his own sobriety Stevie helped countless other people to get clean & sober. Heaven got a good one when Stevie arrived!

Show you what type of man Stevie Ray Vaughan was. Jimi Hendrix when he died he had a gold digger wife who took all of his money cuz his will wasn't set up right for his family. Hendrix's family got nothing. If you go to Walmart right now and look at the back of the Jimi Hendrix CD you will see you at the bottom " remastered by Stevie Ray Vaughan" what he did was remaster all of his songs, and gave the proceeds to Jim Hendricks family.

Jimi was never married. He never actually had all that much money, either; his gold digging record company probably got most of the money from his songs, which is very common within the industry.

I was in the audience during this performance at ACL. The entire crowd went wild! You can sort-of hear it in the background after had switched from his "Number One" Stratocaster to his “Scotch” Strat (he gave names to all of his guitars). The cheering and applause was so loud that we couldn't hear Stevie for a bit, so I'm glad that this video exists. It didn't faze him at all. I think that we should also credit his audio & technical crew, too. For information about SRV's guitars, go to www.groundguitar.com/stevie-ray-vaughan-gear/

Not many youtubers would react to this song, it's not the overwhelming guitar heroics. But what it is, is a straight up solid uptempo blues shuffle and I love it! Speaking as a part time musician who has broken more than a few strings while performing, that's exactly what you do … you KEEP GOING! Now, he has the benefit of a guitar tech to switch out a guitar for him mid song, but you just can't do that mid solo. His face never broke, his singing never broke, most important he never let the groove break. THAT is a true professional.
@daveenglish2358
@daveenglish2358 5 жыл бұрын
Mace, you are so right about playing on after breaking a string. If that's not bad enough, breaking a string often throws a couple of the other strings out of tune, too, so you also have to compensate for that, and quickly.

It's always a shame to me when I hear someone of your generation saying they've never even heard of this musician or that actor. It almost seems as if, if they came before you were born, they never even came into your field of view. And that really is a shame. That's why it's so refreshing to see a guy your age seeking out some of the earlier greats & exploring them. Love to see you loving SRV. Keep doin what you're doin!

I'm a big B.B. King fan and it always amazed me that when I went to his concerts the audience was, by a vast majority, white. I always thought what a tragedy that his legacy wasn't being passed on to the younger black generations.The English invasion of the early '60's basically blew black musicians off the radio. (They weren't alone, Beach music and Doo-Wop also virtually disappeared as well.) There was nothing racist in it, it was just a natural progression, but nonetheless black music as played by black musicians vanished. Of course, the music didn't vanish, it's just that white groups started playing it. You've done reactions to the Righteous Brothers, so you know what I'm saying. Also the songs were covered by the popular white English bands of the early sixties. The Beatles, (You really got a Hold on Me, Mr. Postman and many more) and the Rolling Stones (Ain't to Proud to Beg) and many others grafted the music of black songwriters and performers into their own musical portfolio. It heartening to see a revived interest by the black community in their musical heritage.

@@Modern-Renaissance-Man well, i doubt Stevie was on t.v. unless Austin City Limits had him on, and I know they did. Stevie is something people did live in person. I lived in Austin. Stevie Ray Vaughn and Double Trouble were absolutely at their finest during those Austin City Limits gigs. SRV was so loose for those shows and he absolutely put his heart and soul into them. It obviously had something to do with Texas... He always blew the roof off of the place before the broadcast was over. Seriously... Those Austin City Limits gigs were some of SRV's best nights ever. :-I

You are absolutely correct. Most of the greatest musicians of all time never had a lesson in their life. It was all by ear and the passion to perfect the instrument. They succeeded! Eric Clapton is great, and so is Kravitz and so was Hendrix. Apples and oranges. Each one brings something special in their own rite.

Old Boy broke a shitload of strings in concert. He played the heaviest-gauge strings he could get, and then played them really hard, to get that distinctive sound of his. The result was frequent string breaks onstage, and often several guitar changes during a set. When I saw him, he changed guitars at least 3 times due to broken strings.

The debate will go on as long as Stevie & Jimi's music is still listened to. Stevie once said when the subject came up, ''there is only one Jimi Hendrix''. We do need to bear in mind that Jimi had to play using a right handed guitar, even though he was left handed. In fact, Eric Clapton had purchased a left handed guitar for Jimi, but never got to give it to him before Jimi passed away. Either way it is a privilege to listen to two of the GOATS.

Jazz and the Blues has to be one of, if not THE, greatest contributions of African Americans to USA culture (I’m speaking of culture specifically not science or politics or the myriad of other fields), Jimi Hendrix may be the ultimate example of that music culture blended with rock and pure guitar genius. In my opinion Prince was an extremely excellent guitarist!!!! And he never got enough credit for it!! I've said this before....check out what he does with While my guitar gently weeps on the tribute to George Harrison 2004 with Tom Petty and others! I watched an interview once where members of Petty's band were saying no one knows where Princes guitar went at the end. He tossed it up in the air and it never came back down!!! I just love the look on his face when he is having so much fun with the 'jam session'. George Harrison's son looks thrilled and even Tom Petty looks so impressed. To me that would be the ultimate compliment....to impress Tom Petty!

He was only beginning ! Fell in love with Stevie after hearing one song for the first time! I heard years ago his brother was talking about a movie of his life! But, who would you find to play him?

Hey man, I love your videos! I just subscribed. SRV and Double Trouble were the main reasons I picked up the guitar, 8 years ago. Their album, "In Step" changed my world. Give it a listen sometime, especially Riviera Paradise. I would recommend the version from this same show, but I can't find it on KZbin anymore. Anyway, keep up the good work!

You know, when the Beatles started, they couldn't read music either. According to later interviews, they eventually learned. In fact, in a John Lennon interview, he said they were told in their song, "Please Please Me," that the cord arrangements were wrong and "you can't play that way." Well, they played that way and the song became a hit,. Along with many other songs that "couldn't be played that way," transforming rock.
