I was lucky to be at that show, it was amazing, cried my eyes out. My fave solo by far - is Roman Johnson's... Who else loved it?

Chic Corea will be remembered until the end of times because of this song, if no other. Stevie, thanks for this great rendition. Great harmonica playing as well.
@braintreecat14 жыл бұрын
I loved this version for it's energy and pathos. Lovely intro by Victoria (classically trained piano major). Of course the pulse and vibe from the rhythm section lets this "cook' like crazy for all soloists. yeah the trumpet player nailed it! Wonder why they did it a half step lower than the original. Stevie is so generous with solo space for all his players. Great video! Thanks!

Half step - Could it have something to do with Stevie's harmonica solo? Not a musician, I'm just throwing it out there.

Stevie is still one of the most amazing musicians in the world. The whole band ......awesome.
@funkydrumr5113 жыл бұрын
I'd bet my left arm that Chick loves this. The guitar solos are both great, but Stevie's mastery of the chromatic harmonica is something that doesn't get enough notice; he is simply amazing.

I must respectfully disagree. Yes, the tradition of introducing the musicians is a bit old and worn, BUT, the musicians deserve respect and their moment in the spotlight. They deserve to have their names remembered. Only the leader can do that, and Stevie does it simply and appropriately. I have listened to this performance so much that when Stevie says "Brian Theodore..." I get goose bumps. ANd for the record, yes, Al Cooney rocks his solo!

The keyboard player (Roman Johnson) had the most original flavor combining soul, jazz & funk. Trumpet had some cool, but expected bebop licks and Saxophone showed a lot of feeling without a bunch of stupid scales. Guitar was a little too Rock & Roll, but still skillful and energetic. Overall from 1-10 the solo stuff gets an 8. Great to see and hear the band do their thing, finally!

In JohnHurd defense Stevie does say his name wrong in the video. Damn when i first saw this video few years ago I kept eyeballing the guitar player. I kept saying to self that dude looks just like dude that plays with Goapele. I saw it at a friends house. I finally get confirmation years later. KZbin is a beautiful thing no matter what Prince thinks.

@mastersgta1 No I know a lot about playing music. You missed the point which is, "I don't get why people complain about music that sounds good." This composition sounds fine to me. I'm not sure what your point is.

Stevie and Hendrix jammed together @ the B.B.C in London sometime in early sixty-seven I think. Jimi was gone roughly 3 yrs later, and then Stevie was nearly killed in a car crash probably little more than a year after hendrix's death, which left him badly scarred and in a coma for a short time. Something incredible seems to have happened after Stevie recovered. Listen to his compositions before the crash, and then after. Before: pop artist; After: Composer the likes of Beethoven 'n the boys.
