I am so very sorry for your loss. My precious husband passed away on Father's Day 2022, only five weeks after we learned he had lung cancer. That is when I discovered first hand that music calms those who are in transition, and makes their passing much easier for them. I hope that when my time comes to leave this life, someone will love me enough to let me leave in the peace that hearing a favorite song brings.

So soulful, shaken but not stirred, Stevie. My Auntie was a straight BB King fan. When I was growing up that is all she played. When I got older, I heard Stevie, I was amazed! I took the tape to her and let me tell you, from my Aunt, she said, "A white man playing and singing like that, surely he's got that BB thang, he is a soul Brother! She was from the deep south, she knew the blues. She was simply amazed at Stevie. She became his number one fan after that. No higher compliment can I give than this of my Auntie's experience. She was moved by Stevie, and Stevie was justified as a blues artist to her. RIP Stevie, you are loved and you live in our hearts and minds.

The Stratocaster is a difficult instrument to master and to say that Stevie made it look easy would be an understatement. He touched countless lives with this song when it was recorded just as he still does today. No exaggeration here. The man had a gift that could be seen, heard and felt in the soul and he shared it with everyone. I've read stories about some very well respected musicians who appeared humble and kind until a story eventually emerged that showed their true colors and busted their perfect image wide open, but not SRV. He battled his demons like many great artists but never, not a single time, did I ever read or hear anything about him being a jerk or anything less than the humble, kind and giving person we saw on stage. He was genuine. You don't have to like his music but if you listen to this song and don't get where I'm coming from then I feel sorry for you because you're missing one of life's greatest gifts.

The only thing i disagree with is the stratocaster claim you made at the start. Give SRV a cigar box guitar and a slide and hell still rock better than most. Its about mastering the guitar in general, nothing to do with the model.

I was 6 years old and camping with my dad the first time I heard this song. It was a terrible storm that night and we were forced to spend the night in the car on an overlook. SRV Rivera Paradise then became my favorite song. I made him play it for ...2 hours straight, on a cassette tape mind you. We would play it and rewind it over and over, while the rain poured and lightning struck all around. I attribute this moment in life to be the main reason I play blues guitar now. This is a beautiful composition!

I visited Stevie's gravesite in Dallas a few months ago. Aside from some guitar picks, to which I contributed one of my favorites that I always carried in my wallet, there was not much in the way of tributes on his gravesite. I am assuming he cemetery removes flowers and such after a certain amount of time. The plot is very small and in a sort of island between roadways. I first heard of Stevie's music when I was working in a nightclub in Dallas. I was into hard rock back then, such as Ozzy, Sabbath, Van Halen, etc. Little did I know that this man would change music forever. This song is one that I would love to be played at my own funeral. Stevie said, "this goes out everybody who is still suffering in any way". In these times, aren't we all? This song has always brought me peace. I know Stevie gave up substance abuse right before his death and was getting his life right. Just hoping I can do the same.
