Thanks Dan! The square hole type knob was my nemesis. I went so far as to have tried the square hole drill bit which was overkill on the plastic and ruined 50% of my knobs. With the square hole alignment process using a drill press vise set up fixture you've shown me how to get it right every time. A+, Hands Down, & Thumbs Up!

Bright white buttons look out of place on a 50 year old instrument. But I think the old shriveled up ones look cool, I need to cast and mold a set of them. Then mold new ones out of matching "old looking" color. Great video Dan. :)

Didn’t get a good look at that bent tuner shaft repair fixture, but looked like it had holes for the passing tuning shafts thru. I have vintage tuners with bent shafts, but the tuner buttons are still in pretty good shape. If there was a fixture with slots that allowed tuners with knobs to be placed in the jig, then locked in/down, this would help straighten these shafts too, tho the steel tube won’t work - perhaps a lever point in face of the fixture?

Dan, Thanks so much for sharing. I've had my mother's National Laptop Steel for over 25 years since she lost her battle with cancer. I've wanted to get it out and play but never learned the C6 tuning style. The tuner knobs had long since deteriorated (but it made cleaning easy) I've been playing now with a blues band and while my mother never made these sounds come from her guitar, I'm sure she would like seeing it played. Thanks for the wonderful video on how to get this guitar back to a playable condition.

Preheat the buttons in hot water. I've taken 100s or crumbled Kluson knobs off. I also like a small ball of a white epoxy putty called PC7 (I think) placed in the hole. The stuff stays white, and hard for decades. Great video Dan! I like your jig, I will have to duplicate and try that out. I have a high success rate, but still. I use high end pliers, and have done so for 30 years. This looks a bit faster, and safer. You get the feel of how much you can bend stuff before "OOPS!".

A box of heated sand or silica balls may work better for your method. You can easily build a heated unit or just buy the kind that are used in most eye glass stores for bending frames. It heats more even and is easier to adjust and maintain the heat.

Excellent! BUT, your worthy soldering iron trick should be presented with a SERIOUS word of CAUTION. The words "complete the circuit" clicked my EE mind & I thought, "Gee, I pray that Dan is NOT GROUNDED anywhere!?" E.g., working with bare feet on a damp concrete floor, touching a grounded drill press, etc. 60-120 VAC can be deadly (depending on points of contact, moisture,etc.). Unregulated guns are indeed completing a circuit, just make sure that you are NOT that circuit!
